The passage talks about King Uzziah wanting to offer a sacrifice to the Lord, which sounds like a good thing, but he violated the Old Testament law by burning incense instead of allowing the priest to do so.

In the end, the Lord struck him down with incurable leprosy.

>

***[2 Chronicles 26:17-23](/kjv/2-chronicles/26/17-23)** “And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the Lord, that were valiant men: And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the Lord, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the Lord God.****Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, from beside the incense altar.****And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the Lord had smitten him.****And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the Lord: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.****Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.****So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.”*

Uzziah had to suffer from leprosy till the day he died, because of his anger and his stubbornness. We know that anger is a sin and is the cause of family division, churches having splits, spouses turning against one another and getting divorced, etc.

Uzziah’s illness will always be an example or lesson to remind us of the sin and consequences of anger.

In certain contexts in the Bible, anger was expressed in a righteous manner, for example. We know that Jesus got angry at the Pharisees and Sadducees, which is known as righteous indignation.

This simply means that people get angry for a legitimate reason, but this also is a dangerous thing.

#### **The Infection is Immediate**

At verse 19 *‘**and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead**‘*

Immediately after his anger, Uzziah got himself into trouble. The infection of anger spread like wildfire, it happens so fast that is way beyond our control.

>

***[Proverbs 14:29](/kjv/proverbs/14/29)** “He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.”*

The understanding that we lack when we get angry is towards others. We become ego-centric and only focus on ourselves. Even though Jesus whipped people out of a marketplace, he had the understanding to cry over the city.

Do we possess compassion for others when we get angry at them?

If we were to put ourselves in their shoes, then we will be more likely to empathize with their lack of knowledge and perspectives, because we cannot possibly expect others to think exactly like us.

>

***[Proverbs 30:33](/kjv/proverbs/30/33)** “Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.”*

The Bible says fights happen when we force out wrath. There are these factors that can cause division, so it’s so important to avoid letting the anger explode. We need to be watchful of the factors, and the buttons that can trigger us to wrath.

Stop for a moment and think of the consequence before we blow out of proportion.

#### **The Infection Is Irreversible**

>

***[2 Chronicles 26:20](/kjv/2-chronicles/26/20)** “reminds us that Uzziah’s anger caused him an irreversible disease despite him trying to revert it. “*

This shows us that sometimes the damage we cause due to our anger is irreversible. The  impression we leave may last a really long time.

>

***[Proverbs 17:14](/kjv/proverbs/17/14)** “The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.”*

The water that is spilled all over the ground, cannot return back to its source.

>

***[Proverbs 14:17](/kjv/proverbs/14/17)****“**He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.”*

People who think carefully about consequences, always manage to avoid foolish situations and damages.

When we are angry, we may not be thinking, we only go accordingly to our feelings, which can be dangerous.

>

***[Proverbs 12:16](/kjv/proverbs/12/16)** “A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.”*

Another thing we cannot revert back when we get angry is shame and embarrassment. This is because the person we get so angry with loses trust in us and causes us to ruin our testimony.

>

***[Proverbs 19:19](/kjv/proverbs/19/19)** “A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.*

The Bible says that the hardest part about dealing with angry people is that we have to deal with their mess afterward. A person with anger issues brings grief to people around him/her.

We should strive to be people that people want to be around, and thank us for making their life joyful instead.

>

***[Proverbs 27:3](/kjv/proverbs/27/3)** “A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.”*

Most often the anger that we withhold feels like a heavy burden, and we are so tempted to just let it out in seconds.

To come to think about it, anger profits nothing, it hurts others, makes us look like an idiot in the public eye, brings embarrassment, makes us commit a deliberate sin against God, and causes us to lose our reward in Heaven.

#### **The Infection Is Incurable**

>

***[2 Chronicles 26:21](/kjv/2-chronicles/26/21)** “clearly shows that Uzziah was cast out by God, and could no longer perform his duties as a King because of his sin, had to live with leprosy till the day he died.”*

Our anger is like an infectious disease that cannot be cured. Nonetheless, there is one savior among them all.

>

***[Luke 7:21](/kjv/luke/7/21)** “And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.”*

Jesus can cure us of anything, even anger. We just need to choose who to yield to, to our Lord Jesus Christ, or to the devil.

>

***[Ephesians 4:26](/kjv/ephesians/4/26)** “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:”*

When we are having an argument with someone, it is important to think from the other person’s point of view and recognize what he/she is thinking that he/she is right on.

However, the most difficult part is to be considerate of the other person’s feelings and standpoint when we have become so self-centered. We have to strive to look for a middle ground, where both parties meet in the middle to avoid negative and unhealthy conflict.

Secondly, we should also always pray to the Lord, and let go of our anger to Him; God will fix our anger issues.

Thirdly, thinking only about the person’s good points instead of the bad ones will tend to make us resolve the angry dispute.

#### **The Infection Is Imperishable**

>

***[2 Chronicles 26:23](/kjv/2-chronicles/26/23)** “shows that Uzziah eventually died, but still got called a leper.”*

>

The consequences we cause due to anger will continue to live on even after we die.

>

***[Proverbs 10:12](/kjv/proverbs/10/12)** “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”*

The best key that will never haunt us in the afterlife is love. Jesus gave two commandments that can resolve issues with hatred and anger; which are love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and they love each other.

When we have love and compassion towards others, it is almost impossible to be angry at them.

Also, to help us alleviate our anger, we should always learn to trust in God and let God handle the situations that we are being put in, and the people we encounter. When we get angry at situations or people, it shows that we do not yield to God enough or in His grandest plan.
