Command

  1. Quenching is possible
God commands us to not quench the spirit.
There’s something that’s preventing the Holy Spirit from growing within us and that’s why the church cannot grow, that’s why God does not bless us with fruits.

1 Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.

  2. Filling of the Spirit. Filling to be drunk.
The filling of the Spirit has to be to the point like filling ourselves with alcohol. God condemns drunken alcoholic but His point here is to be like how an alcoholic craves for another drink to fill himself with. We have to do the same thing with the filling of the Spirit.
Filling to be drunk: when we’re drunk, we’re out of control because we are being controlled by the drink. But when we’re filled with the Holy Spirit and we’re at that feeling where we’re drunk, we are not controlled by ourselves, we are controlled by some other power controlling us.

    Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

  3. Our body does not belong to us, our body belongs to the Holy Spirit. It’s a command where we have to consecrate every aspect of our body (how it functions, feel, see, breath) to the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Explanation Of The Filling Of The Holy Spirit

  1. It is not the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
Baptism means to be immersed under. Baptism of the Holy Ghost is being referred to salvation.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

But the filling of the spirit means something we put within, something we let it grow and fill within.
It’s not just going underneath the water, we also have to have something to fill up inside us.
The body of Christ is everybody, there is no elite member in here where one is better than us in the baptism of the spirit. Baptism of the spirit is for every member of the body.

  2. Holy Spirit comes inside us when we get saved.

Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Why do we have to be filled then? Because the Holy Spirit can grow within us.

Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

The Holy Spirit should not just stay inside you but be formed inside you.

3. Should let the filling of the Holy Spirit overflow out of you that it pours out and affects the person around us.

John 7:38-39 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

Conditions

  1. Get saved and become a son of God

Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

  2. Have a strong desire

John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
John 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

  3. Pray for the filling of the Spirit.
A lot of people say ‘Well I already have the Holy Spirit in me’ but v13 says that we need more of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11:5-9 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Remember the Holy Spirit can be filled like drunkenness.

    Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

  4. Yield to the Holy Spirit.
The reason why the Holy Spirit is not filling inside you is that you are not yielding to him you are yielding to yourself.

Galatians 5:16-17 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Inaudible Tongues Is Not The Filling Of The Holy Spirit

  1. Peter spoke in an audible language

Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

  2. Speaking in tongues (applied to the Jews during the age of apostles) meant different languages

Acts 2:4-11 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
