**kindness** = grace, favour, or lovingkindness.

**any** = a man. Hebrew. *'ish.* App-14 .
**God.** Hebrew. *Elohim.* App-4 . lame. Compare [2 Samuel 4:4](../../../kjv/2-samuel/4/4) .

**Behold. Figure of speech** *Asterismos.* App-6 .
**Lo-debar** = no pasture. Where the sinner is until found by God ' s free grace.

**sent, and fetched** . This is the action of grace towards the "lost" sinner. Compare [Luke 15:4](../../../kjv/luke/15/4) , [Luke 15:5](../../../kjv/luke/15/5)

**Mephibosheth** . Born in 965 ([2 Samuel 4:4](../../../kjv/2-samuel/4/4) ). Now seventeen, and father of a young son ([2 Samuel 9:12](../../../kjv/2-samuel/9/12) ).

**thy father's sake** . So with God's grace to us; not for the sake of the lost one.
**Saul thy father** = Saul thy grandfather.

**What . . . ?** Figure of speech *Erotesis.* App-6 .
**a dead dog** . Self-abasement is ever the result of grace shown.
**I am.** So the sinner is concerned about what he is, rather than what he has *done.* Compare [Isaiah 6:5](../../../kjv/isaiah/6/5) .[Luke 5:8](../../../kjv/luke/5/8) .

**Mephibosheth** . Note the Figure of speech *Epanadiplosis* ( App-6 ) in this verse: being repeated at the beginning of the next verse.
**was** = he was.
