**Why callest**
Par., Believing Me to be but a human teacher, why callest thou Me "good," etc.

**astonished**
Or, amazed, i.e. as Jews: knowing that temporal prosperity was, to the Jew as such, a token of divine favour. e.g. [Deuteronomy 28:1-12](../../../kjv/deuteronomy/28/1-12).

**eye of**
It has been thought the reference here was to a postern door set in a gate of Jerusalem.
