Calvinists believe that God will reveal Himself to the elect. God reveals Himself only to a certain group of people, it’s not to everybody, so that’s why they claim it has nothing to do with universal salvation. Whereas God will not reveal Himself to the rest of the world for salvation, so then they die and go to hell.

Matthew 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.”

This verse seems to support the Calvinist’s notion of the elect. The verse seems to show that not everybody can know the Father, whosoever Jesus selects or elects, He’ll reveal Himself to them.

This is misconstructed. God reveals Himself truly to a certain group of people but they are the saved Christians.

Can lost people understand what God reveals to them? A lot of times, they don’t, they’re very blind to that. Unless we’re a saved Christian in the Lord Jesus Christ, then we can understand the things of God.

1 Corinthians 2:10-12 “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”

God reveals Himself to us if we have the Holy Spirit.

Calvinists teach that God reveals Himself to the elect before salvation long before the foundation of the world. They believe God does not show Himself to everybody where they can get saved. But this has nothing to do with before salvation right here. This is talking about after salvation, that when we’re saved in the Lord Jesus Christ, God reveals things to us more and we’re able to understand it.

Here’s another thing, this is conditioned. In 1 Corinthians 2, how God reveals is if we have the Holy Spirit within us. Before salvation, we did not have the Holy Spirit within us, that’s why God doesn’t reveal Himself to us. It’s only until we receive the Holy Spirit.

Calvinists always get around that and overlook the condition. When the person follows the condition of believing Jesus Christ for his salvation, he then has the Holy Spirit in him and God reveals Himself to him. This is for everybody, but obviously, not everybody has the Holy Spirit because everybody doesn’t follow the condition. But that condition is for everybody.

Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”

God did not force us, we have to accept Him by free choice. They believe out of their free choice.

They got the Holy Spirit and because of that, the Holy Spirit can reveal. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew 11 that He reveals Himself only to a certain group.

1 Corinthians 2:14 ” But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

A lost person is spiritually discerned.

Here’s an easy argument against a Calvinist: Before you got saved, did God reveal Himself to you? They didn’t understand the things of God, they were the unnatural man who didn’t understand the things of God. So maybe they were never the real elect to begin with, but they believe that they were elected long before the foundation of the world.
