# Does Romans 6:3-5 Prove Water Baptism?

**Answer**: Romans 6:3-5 seems to show that you have to get water baptized in order to be saved. However, baptized simply means immersion. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be immersed under water.

Mark 1:7-9 shows that a person can receive [water baptism](https://realbiblebelievers.com/beginners-discipleship-class-42-do-christians-perform-rituals-ordinances-%f0%9f%91%8d-baptism-lords-supper/) or a Holy Spirit baptism. Romans 6 is actually talking about a spiritual baptism.

If you look at 1 Corinthians 12:13, it shows right here that by one Spirit we all receive baptism.

Another thing is, even if Romans 6 seems to show that you have to get water baptized, water baptism is simply

a picture of Christ’s death, burial, resurrection.

Baptism is not Christ’s death, burial and resurrection itself.

Notice, it says, likeness. It is a likeness. It is a symbol.
