Numbers 11:24-29 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the Lord, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle. And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease. But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp. And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the Lord‘s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!

There were about 70 elders that God filled with His Holy Spirit. Two people all of a sudden were filled with the Holy Spirit and were not part of the 70. Joshua tried to forbid them. Moses instead replied, “Are you envious?” These wicked people in California are trying to forbid us from serving God and getting filled with the Holy Spirit because they are envious.

Are you filled with the power of the Holy Spirit?

There are some churches that are feeling utterly repressed because they are not able to function as they normally do. If they want to stop the Holy Spirit from filling the church, it’s going to take a lot more than imprison us and stopping churches from gathering together.

Let’s see the conditions of how people get filled with the Holy Spirit.

Do things that are out of the norm

The 2 people in Numbers 11 above who got filled with the Holy Spirit are the ones that God uses. These are the ones who are out of norms, over-zealous, the ones who hold out a sign that “Jesus Christ saves”.

A great cry

A lot of judges have the spirit of the Lord come upon them.

Judges 3:8-10 Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years. And when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the Lord delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

What is it that Othniel had to get the holy spirit? God chooses people to fill. But, the condition that made God move in on the situation was the “crying out of desperation.” We need God’s people to cry even louder.

Use your gifts and talents

Samson was sinning and going by his flesh but the Holy Spirit filled him anyway.

Judges 13: 24-25 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him. And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Why was the Spirit moving in him at times? Because Samson was fleshly. God used Samson although Samson used his gifts for his flesh. What we think to be a handicap or the little things that we do not see to be significant is sometimes used by God.

Anger against this wicked world

1 Samuel 11: 5-7 And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh. And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

90% of the anger that comes out of us is fleshly. But there are times when it’s connected with the Holy Spirit. The condition? The people ail and weep. When we pray against our enemies who are trying to mess around with God’s people/work, God answers the prayer. We need to have anger against this wicked system and doctrines. Anger is justified when there are wickedness and wrong.

When we are about to get attacked spiritually

Luke 4:1-2 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

Luke 4:14And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

Sometimes we do not do anything to get the Holy Spirit, but God fills us with the Holy Spirit because of a spiritual attack that is coming. When Jesus resisted the temptations, the devil left him for a while. Then God filled Jesus with Holy Spirit again in verse 14. This will happen in a Christian’s life – we’ll be filled, we fight, we’ll be filled with the Holy Spirit over and over again until the rapture.

Wait on the Lord

Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Everyone wants to do something, but the Lord wants us to sit still and wait. Some days, we become discouraged and there’s absolutely no fruit. Wait, just wait on the Lord. We need to learn how to take a hit and grow patience. We become stronger soldiers and have the power to fight back because we have been hit so many times.

Selfless service

Acts 4: 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

“Me, me, me” has got to go out for the Holy Spirit to fill us up. When everyone in the room is thinking about God in one accord, the Holy Spirit can come and fill us. Let’s sacrifice our time to reach out to people, follow up, pray for one another, improve some things at church.

Every passage we looked where people were filled with the Holy Spirit was from the word of God. God promised the power of the Holy Spirit before He gave the Holy Spirit in each case:

God promised Moses that He would fill the people with the Holy Spirit “Is anything too hard for me?”

The judges were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit – God gave a response to the cry of the people.

Samson was given gifts and talents because God made a promise to Manoah’s wife.

God gave a promise to Isaiah that the spirit of the Lord shall be upon the Messiah.

Jesus told the disciples to wait at Jerusalem.

Jesus gave this promise to the disciples “The Holy Spirit will do greater things through you than through me.”

We can be confident that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit. As a command, God said “Be filled with the Holy Ghost.” Be encouraged and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Don’t feel down or oppressed. That promise is still alive.
