Revelation 6:11 “And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.”
“And white robes were given unto every one of them;”
White robes were given to the souls at verse 9. Notice that a soul can wear a robe, that means the soul has a bodily shape.
Luke 16:23-24 “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.“
Notice here that a damn soul and a saved soul have bodily shares and functions: eyes, seeth, bosom, cried, finger, tongue.
Here’s something interesting about Revelation 6:9, these souls (they’re already dead), where did these souls go? It’s not above the altar or up in heaven. It says ‘I saw under the altar’. When did you ever read in your Bible where a saved soul would be underneath the earth? Jesus said hell is at the heart of the earth.
Luke 16:23 “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”
Luke 16:25-26 “But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.“
This is hell here but there is a gulf between them, one side is a place of comfort, the other side is a place of torment.
Remember Revelation 1 where we talked about Jesus Christ, when He took the keys from hell and of death and went down below? The Bible says when Jesus looked at the thief on the cross, He said, ‘Today when He died, thou shalt be with me in paradise’. Did Jesus go to heaven first or hell first? The Bible says Jesus went to the lower part of the earth first and then ascended up above. If Jesus went to paradise that same day but went down below, that means there is a paradise below. If you look at Luke 16 that makes sense, there was Abraham and Lazarus on one side, then there’s a gulf and on the other side is hell.
Does this mean that paradise is going to open again? Yes!
After Christians die, we immediately go to paradise or heaven, which is above.
But in Old Testament (Luke 16), we realize that they didn’t go up to heaven immediately, they were below the earth. In tribulation, they do that again – their temporary heaven is below the earth.
Why? If you believe in a doctrine called dispensationalism, God’s nation during the Old Testament was not the Christian church, it was Israel. He’s dealing with the Christian church now but when it comes to tribulation, where’s the Christian church? They’re already raptured. God is turning again to the nation of Israel.
In Romans 11, the bible says that God temporarily put the Jews aside but He said at the future tribulation, when He comes, He will restore them, so He’s returning back to Israel. That’s why it makes sense that it’s following the Jewish system that He did at the Old Testament.
To go to heaven or hell, it depends on your salvation. The bible shows that there’s a different salvation in tribulation. Revelation 14 says you must reject the mark of the beast, if you don’t reject that, then you burn in hell forever. Rejecting the mark of the beast is work. In tribulation, you are going to get hell on earth from Antichrist, where people are looking at you with forks and knives, ready to eat you and about to flay you. You have to resist denying Jesus Christ, that’s a lot of work, you have to endure the persecution of Satan’s hell on earth.
Here’s something else that’s interesting, if you look up the word ‘paradise’ in your English dictionary, everyone thinks that it has to be a third heaven but Merriam-Webster has another interesting definition for it: ‘an intermediate place or state where the souls of the righteous await resurrection and the final judgment.’ This matches with the Old Testament where souls are waiting for their redeemer. Not only that, at Revelation 6, God says that they’re supposed to wait at verse 11, rest yet for a little season. They’re waiting for their redeemer. That’s why it makes so much sense about the first coming and second coming, both Jews were waiting for their redeemer. When Jesus came down the first time, He came as a redeemer and gave us spiritual salvation. When He comes down the second time, He’s giving salvation to all the earth and He restores creation.
Back to Revelation 6:11, so they’re given white robes. Recall Revelation 2 and 3 where they were given white robes to Philadelphia, Ephesus, etc. We believe Revelation 2 and 3 does not completely apply to the Christian church, we believe it’s a double application: there is a doctrinal application to the tribulation. When God is talking about “enduring” at Revelation 2 and 3, it’s because they’re going to resist the Antichrist system at Revelation 9, 10, 11 so God’s going to bless them with white robes.
“and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.”
More people has to die. Notice that it says ‘should be fulfilled’, that’s ordained by scripture, it’s a scriptural fulfillment of Jesus’s prophecy where there’s going to be persecution.
Revelation 6:12 “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;”
“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake;”
So there’s going to be a huge earthquake.
“and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair,”
The sun is going to turn black.
“and the moon became as blood;”
There will be a red moon here.
Revelation 6:13 “And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.”
“And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth,”
All the stars that you see are going to fall down all of a sudden.
“even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.”
The stars of heaven will do the same as if a fig tree losing its own figs and leaves when a mighty wind blows.
This is the utmost nightmare when everything, the whole universe, just turns into a cataclysmic event. You’d literally believe that this is the end of the world. That’s going to be the most scary part where there’s no place to hide.
Revelation 6:14 “And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.”
“And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together;”
When you look up at the galaxies and the sky, it’s going to roll up like a scroll.
“and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.”
If you think you can hide by going to any island or high mountain, you can’t. They’re all going to move out of place.
Revelation 6:15 “And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;”
“And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men,”
Notice all these are the rich, rich, rich, rich, rich people. Remember that 1% elite from the famine? They thought they were sheltered and some of those Jews thought they can compromise with the elites, that’s why they joined the elite system, made the covenant with the Antichrist, death, and hell thinking they can get away with it. They think that they’re the ones that are going to survive the apocalypse and all the people wipe out. No, God’s got their number.
“and every bondman, and every free man,”
Sadly, even the common people too. God judges the whole earth.
“hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;”
That’s their little hideout here and the elites already have their bunker set up.
Revelation 6:16 “And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:”
Everyone went to their hiding places. When the mountains and islands are moved out of places, all they hope for is that those rocks would just crash on them. That’s how dreadful God is, the Bible says even heaven and earth fled away from the face of Him. But the worst thing that will ever happen to you is if you’re an unbeliever and you see God face to face. That will terrify you more than anything else on earth.
Revelation 6:17 “For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”
No one can stand it.
There is an event here called the Day of Wrath, that’s God’s second coming. Notice in verse 16 it says ‘hide us from the face of him’, that’s undoubtedly His second coming.
