And it came to pass when Jeroboam יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם H3379 the son בֶּן H1121 of Nebat נְבָט֙ H5028 וְה֣וּא H1931 out of Egypt מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ H4714 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 whither he had fled בָּרַ֔ח H1272 from the presence מִפְּנֵ֖י H6440 of Solomon שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה H8010 the king הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ H4428 returned וַיָּ֥שָׁב H7725 And it came to pass when Jeroboam יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם H3379 out of Egypt מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ H4714 3 And they sent וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ H7971 and called וַיִּקְרְאוּ H7121 ל֔וֹ H0 came וַיָּבֹ֥א H935 him So Jeroboam יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם H3379 וְכָל H3605 and all Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 and spake וַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּ H1696 אֶל H413 to Rehoboam רְחַבְעָ֖ם H7346 saying לֵאמֹֽר׃ H559 4 Thy father אָבִ֜יךָ H1 grievous הִקְשָׁ֣ה H7185 אֶת H853 made our yoke וּמֵֽעֻלּ֧וֹ H5923 וְעַתָּ֡ה H6258 now therefore ease הָקֵל֩ H7043 servitude מֵעֲבוֹדַ֨ת H5656 Thy father אָבִ֜יךָ H1 thou somewhat the grievous הַקָּשָׁ֗ה H7186 made our yoke וּמֵֽעֻלּ֧וֹ H5923 and his heavy הַכָּבֵ֛ד H3515 אֲשֶׁר H834 that he put נָתַ֥ן H5414 וְשׁ֣וּבוּ H7725 אֵלָ֑י H413 וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ H1980 And the people הָעָֽם׃ H5971 6 counsel give נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים H3289 And king הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 Rehoboam רְחַבְעָ֗ם H7346 אֶת H854 with the old הַזְּקֵנִים֙ H2205 אֲשֶׁר H834 הָי֣וּ H1961 men that had stood עֹֽמְדִ֗ים H5975 before לִפְנֵי֙ H6440 Solomon שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה H8010 his father אָבִ֔יו H1 בִּֽהְיֹת֥וֹ H1961 while he yet lived חַ֖י H2416 saying לֵאמֹ֑ר H559 What אֵ֚יךְ H349 אַתֶּ֣ם H859 counsel give נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים H3289 ye me to return לְהָשִׁ֥יב H7725 to this people לָֽעָם H5971 הַזֶּ֖ה H2088 answer דָּבָֽר׃ H1697 7 And they spake וְדִבַּרְתָּ֥ H1696 אֵלָ֜יו H413 unto him saying לֵאמֹ֗ר H559 אִם H518 תִּֽהְיֶ֨ה H1961 If thou be kind טוֹבִ֑ים H2896 to this people לְהָעָ֤ם H5971 הַזֶּה֙ H2088 and please וּרְצִיתָ֔ם H7521 And they spake וְדִבַּרְתָּ֥ H1696 אֲלֵהֶ֖ם H413 words דְּבָרִ֣ים H1697 If thou be kind טוֹבִ֑ים H2896 וְהָי֥וּ H1961 לְךָ֛ H0 to them they will be thy servants עֲבָדִ֖ים H5650 כָּל H3605 for ever הַיָּמִֽים׃ H3117 8 But he forsook וַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛ב H5800 אֶת H853 the counsel עֲצַ֥ת H6098 which the old men הַזְּקֵנִ֖ים H2205 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 gave וַיִּוָּעַ֗ץ H3289 gave וַיִּוָּעַ֗ץ H3289 אֶת H854 with the young men הַיְלָדִים֙ H3206 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 that were brought up גָּֽדְל֣וּ H1431 אִתּ֔וֹ H854 with him that stood הָעֹֽמְדִ֖ים H5975 before לְפָנָֽיו׃ H6440 9 And he said לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 אֲלֵהֶ֗ם H413 מָ֚ה H4100 אַתֶּ֣ם H859 unto them What advice נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים H3289 give ye that we may return וְנָשִׁ֥יב H7725 answer דָּבָ֖ר H1697 אֶת H853 to this people הָעָ֣ם H5971 הַזֶּ֑ה H2088 אֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 which have spoken דִּבְּר֤וּ H1696 אֵלַי֙ H413 And he said לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 Ease הָקֵל֙ H7043 מִן H4480 somewhat the yoke הָעֹ֔ל H5923 אֲשֶׁר H834 did put נָתַ֥ן H5414 that thy father אָבִ֖יךָ H1 עָלֵֽינוּ׃ H5921 10 that spake דִּבְּר֨וּ H1696 אִתּ֗וֹ H854 And the young men הַיְלָדִים֙ H3206 אֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 that were brought up גָּֽדְל֣וּ H1431 אִתּוֹ֮ H854 Thus shalt thou answer תֹּאמַ֣ר H559 כֹּֽה H3541 Thus shalt thou עֻלֵּ֔נוּ H5923 וְאַתָּ֖ה H859 but make thou it somewhat lighter הָקֵ֣ל H7043 מֵֽעָלֵ֑ינוּ H5921 כֹּ֚ה H3541 Thus shalt thou answer תֹּאמַ֣ר H559 אֲלֵהֶ֔ם H413 unto them My little קָֽטָנִּ֥י H6995 finger shall be thicker עָבָ֖ה H5666 loins מִמָּתְנֵ֥י H4975 Thy father אָבִֽי׃ H1 11 For whereas וְעַתָּ֗ה H6258 my father אָבִ֗י H1 put הֶעְמִ֤יס H6006 עֲלֵיכֶם֙ H5921 to your yoke עֻלְּכֶ֑ם H5923 a heavy כָּבֵ֔ד H3515 וַֽאֲנִ֖י H589 upon you I will put more אֹסִ֣יף H3254 עַֽל H5921 to your yoke עֻלְּכֶ֑ם H5923 my father אָבִ֗י H1 chastised יִסַּ֤ר H3256 אֶתְכֶם֙ H853 you with whips בַּשּׁוֹטִ֔ים H7752 וַֽאֲנִ֖י H589 but I will chastise you with scorpions בָּֽעֲקְרַבִּֽים׃ H6137 12 came וַיָּבֹ֨א H935 So Jeroboam יָֽרָבְעָ֧ם H3379 וְכָל H3605 and all the people הָעָ֛ם H5971 אֶל H413 to Rehoboam רְחַבְעָ֖ם H7346 day בַּיּ֥וֹם H3117 on the third הַשְּׁלִשִֽׁי׃ H7992 כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 bade דִּבֶּ֤ר H1696 as the king הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ H4428 saying לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 Come again שׁ֥וּבוּ H7725 אֵלַ֖י H413 day בַּיּ֥וֹם H3117 on the third הַשְּׁלִשִֽׁי׃ H7992 13 answered וַיַּֽעֲנֵ֥ם H6030 And the king הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 them roughly קָשָׁ֑ה H7186 forsook וַֽיַּעֲזֹב֙ H5800 And the king הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 Rehoboam רְחַבְעָ֔ם H7346 אֵ֖ת H853 the counsel עֲצַ֥ת H6098 of the old men הַזְּקֵנִֽים׃ H2205 14 And answered וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר H1696 אֲלֵהֶ֗ם H413 them after the advice כַּֽעֲצַ֤ת H6098 of the young men הַיְלָדִים֙ H3206 saying לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 My father אָבִ֗י H1 heavy אַכְבִּיד֙ H3513 אֶֽת H853 made your yoke עֻלְּכֶ֔ם H5923 וַֽאֲנִ֖י H589 but I will add אֹסִ֣יף H3254 עָלָ֑יו H5921 My father אָבִ֗י H1 chastised יִסַּ֤ר H3256 אֶתְכֶם֙ H853 you with whips בַּשּׁוֹטִ֔ים H7752 וַֽאֲנִ֖י H589 but I will chastise you with scorpions בָּעַקְרַבִּֽים׃ H6137 15 וְלֹֽא H3808 hearkened שָׁמַ֥ע H8085 So the king הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ H4428 אֶל H413 not unto the people הָעָ֑ם H5971 כִּֽי H3588 הָיְתָ֤ה H1961 for the cause נְסִבָּה֙ H5252 מֵעִ֣ם H5973 was of God הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים H430 לְמַעַן֩ H4616 might perform הָקִ֨ים H6965 that the LORD יְהוָ֜ה H3068 אֶת H853 his word דְּבָר֗וֹ H1697 אֲשֶׁ֤ר H834 which he spake דִּבֶּר֙ H1696 by the hand בְּיַד֙ H3027 of Ahijah אֲחִיָּ֣הוּ H281 the Shilonite הַשִּֽׁלוֹנִ֔י H7888 אֶל H413 to Jeroboam יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם H3379 the son בֶּן H1121 of Nebat נְבָֽט׃ H5028 16 וְכָל H3605 And when all Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 כִּ֠י H3588 לֹֽא H3808 would not hearken שָׁמַ֣ע H8085 that the king הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ׀ H4428 לָהֶם֒ H1992 answered וַיָּשִׁ֣יבוּ H7725 unto them the people הָעָ֣ם H5971 אֶת H853 that the king הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ׀ H4428 saying לֵאמֹ֡ר H559 מַה H4100 לָּנוּ֩ H0 What portion חֵ֨לֶק H2506 and now David דָּוִ֑יד H1732 וְלֹֽא H3808 and we have none inheritance נַחֲלָ֣ה H5159 in the son בְּבֶן H1121 of Jesse יִשַׁ֗י H3448 every man אִ֤ישׁ H376 to their tents לְאֹֽהָלָֽיו׃ H168 And when all Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 עַתָּ֕ה H6258 saw רְאֵ֥ה H7200 to thine own house בֵֽיתְךָ֖ H1004 and now David דָּוִ֑יד H1732 וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ H1980 כָּל H3605 And when all Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 to their tents לְאֹֽהָלָֽיו׃ H168 17 But as for the children וּבְנֵ֣י H1121 of Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל H3478 that dwelt הַיֹּֽשְׁבִ֖ים H3427 in the cities בְּעָרֵ֣י H5892 of Judah יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 reigned וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ H4427 עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם H5921 Rehoboam רְחַבְעָֽם׃ H7346 18 sent וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח H7971 But king וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 Rehoboam רְחַבְעָ֗ם H7346 אֶת H853 Hadoram הֲדֹרָם֙ H1913 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 עַל H5921 that was over the tribute הַמַּ֔ס H4522 stoned וַיִּרְגְּמוּ H7275 ב֧וֹ H0 and the children בְנֵֽי H1121 of Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל H3478 him with stones אֶ֖בֶן H68 that he died וַיָּמֹ֑ת H4191 But king וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ H4428 Rehoboam רְחַבְעָ֗ם H7346 made speed הִתְאַמֵּץ֙ H553 to get him up לַֽעֲל֣וֹת H5927 to his chariot בַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֔ה H4818 to flee לָנ֖וּס H5127 to Jerusalem יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 19 rebelled וַיִּפְשְׁע֤וּ H6586 And Israel יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 against the house בְּבֵ֣ית H1004 of David דָּוִ֔יד H1732 עַ֖ד H5704 unto this day הַיּ֥וֹם H3117 הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 [2 Chronicles
