תַּחְתָּ֑יו H8478 in his stead In his days בְּיָמָ֛יו H3117 was quiet שָֽׁקְטָ֥ה H8252 the land הָאָ֖רֶץ H776 ten עֶ֥שֶׂר H6235 years שָׁנִֽים׃ H8141 2 did וַיַּ֤עַשׂ H6213 And Asa אָסָא֙ H609 that which was good הַטּ֣וֹב H2896 and right וְהַיָּשָׁ֔ר H3477 in the eyes בְּעֵינֵ֖י H5869 of the LORD יְהוָ֥ה H3068 his God אֱלֹהָֽיו׃ H430 3 For he took away וַיָּ֛סַר H5493 אֶת H853 the altars מִזְבְּח֥וֹת H4196 of the strange הַנֵּכָ֖ר H5236 gods and the high places וְהַבָּמ֑וֹת H1116 and brake down וַיְשַׁבֵּר֙ H7665 אֶת H853 the images הַמַּצֵּב֔וֹת H4676 and cut down וַיְגַדַּ֖ע H1438 אֶת H853 the groves הָֽאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃ H842 4 And commanded וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 Judah לִֽיהוּדָ֔ה H3063 to seek לִדְר֕וֹשׁ H1875 אֶת H853 the LORD יְהוָ֖ה H3068 God אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 of their fathers אֲבֽוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם H1 and to do וְלַֽעֲשׂ֖וֹת H6213 the law הַתּוֹרָ֥ה H8451 and the commandment וְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃ H4687 5 Also he took away וַיָּ֙סַר֙ H5493 מִכָּל H3605 out of all the cities עָרֵ֣י H5892 of Judah יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 אֶת H853 the high places הַבָּמ֖וֹת H1116 וְאֶת H853 and the images הַֽחַמָּנִ֑ים H2553 was quiet וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט H8252 and the kingdom הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה H4467 before לְפָנָֽיו׃ H6440 6 And he built וַיִּ֛בֶן H1129 cities עָרֵ֥י H5892 fenced מְצוּרָ֖ה H4694 in Judah בִּֽיהוּדָ֑ה H3063 כִּֽי H3588 had rest שָׁקְטָ֣ה H8252 for the land הָאָ֗רֶץ H776 וְאֵין H369 עִמּ֤וֹ H5973 and he had no war מִלְחָמָה֙ H4421 in those years בַּשָּׁנִ֣ים H8141 הָאֵ֔לֶּה H428 כִּֽי H3588 had given him rest הֵנִ֥יחַ H5117 because the LORD יְהוָ֖ה H3068 לֽוֹ׃ H0 7 Therefore he said וַיֹּ֨אמֶר H559 unto Judah לִֽיהוּדָ֜ה H3063 Let us build וַיִּבְנ֖וּ H1129 אֶת H853 these cities הֶֽעָרִ֣ים H5892 הָאֵ֗לֶּה H428 and make about וְנָסֵ֨ב H5437 them walls חוֹמָ֣ה H2346 and towers וּמִגְדָּלִים֮ H4026 gates דְּלָתַ֣יִם H1817 and bars וּבְרִיחִים֒ H1280 עוֹדֶ֨נּוּ H5750 while the land הָאָ֜רֶץ H776 is yet before לְפָנֵ֗ינוּ H6440 כִּ֤י H3588 us because we have sought דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ H1875 אֶת H853 the LORD יְהוָ֣ה H3068 our God אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ H430 us because we have sought דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ H1875 him and he hath given us rest וַיָּ֥נַֽח H5117 לָ֖נוּ H0 on every side מִסָּבִ֑יב H5439 Let us build וַיִּבְנ֖וּ H1129 and prospered וַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃ H6743 8 וַיְהִ֣י H1961 And Asa לְאָסָ֗א H609 had an army חָֽיִל׃ H2428 of men that bare נֹֽשְׂאֵ֤י H5375 targets צִנָּ֣ה H6793 and spears וָרֹמַח֒ H7420 out of Judah מִֽיהוּדָה֙ H3063 three שְׁלֹ֣שׁ H7969 hundred מָאתַ֥יִם H3967 thousand אָ֑לֶף H505 and out of Benjamin וּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ן H1144 of men that bare נֹֽשְׂאֵ֤י H5375 shields מָגֵן֙ H4043 and drew וְדֹ֣רְכֵי H1869 bows קֶ֔שֶׁת H7198 hundred מָאתַ֥יִם H3967 and fourscore וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים H8084 thousand אָ֑לֶף H505 כָּל H3605 אֵ֖לֶּה H428 all these were mighty men גִּבּ֥וֹרֵי H1368 had an army חָֽיִל׃ H2428 9 And there came out וַיֵּצֵ֨א H3318 אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם H413 against them Zerah זֶ֣רַח H2226 the Ethiopian הַכּוּשִׁ֗י H3569 with an host בְּחַ֙יִל֙ H2428 of a thousand אֲלָפִ֔ים H505 of a thousand אֲלָפִ֔ים H505 chariots וּמַרְכָּב֖וֹת H4818 and three שְׁלֹ֣שׁ H7969 hundred מֵא֑וֹת H3967 and came וַיָּבֹ֖א H935 עַד H5704 unto Mareshah מָֽרֵשָֽׁה׃ H4762 10 went out וַיֵּצֵ֥א H3318 Then Asa אָסָ֖א H609 against לְפָנָ֑יו H6440 in array וַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙ H6186 him and they set the battle מִלְחָמָ֔ה H4421 in the valley בְּגֵ֥יא H1516 of Zephathah צְפַ֖תָה H6859 at Mareshah לְמָֽרֵשָֽׁה׃ H4762 11 cried וַיִּקְרָ֨א H7121 And Asa אָסָ֜א H609 אֶל H413 LORD יְהוָ֤ה H3068 his God אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 and said וַיֹּאמַר֒ H559 LORD יְהוָ֤ה H3068 אֵֽין H369 עִמְּךָ֤ H5973 help עָזְרֵ֜נוּ H5826 whether בֵּ֥ין H996 with many רַב֙ H7227 לְאֵ֣ין H369 or with them that have no power כֹּ֔חַ H3581 help עָזְרֵ֜נוּ H5826 LORD יְהוָ֤ה H3068 his God אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 כִּֽי H3588 עָלֶ֣יךָ H5921 for we rest נִשְׁעַ֔נּוּ H8172 on thee and in thy name וּבְשִׁמְךָ֣ H8034 we go בָ֔אנוּ H935 עַל H5921 against this multitude הֶֽהָמ֖וֹן H1995 הַזֶּ֑ה H2088 LORD יְהוָ֤ה H3068 his God אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 אַ֔תָּה H859 אַל H408 prevail יַעְצֹ֥ר H6113 עִמְּךָ֖ H5973 let not man אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ H582 12 smote וַיִּגֹּ֤ף H5062 So the LORD יְהוָה֙ H3068 אֶת H853 and the Ethiopians הַכּוּשִֽׁים׃ H3569 and before וְלִפְנֵ֣י H6440 Asa אָסָ֖א H609 and before וְלִפְנֵ֣י H6440 Judah יְהוּדָ֑ה H3063 fled וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ H5127 and the Ethiopians הַכּוּשִֽׁים׃ H3569 13 that were with him pursued וַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨ם H7291 And Asa אָסָ֜א H609 and the people וְהָעָ֣ם H5971 אֲשֶׁר H834 עִמּוֹ֮ H5973 עַד H5704 them unto Gerar לִגְרָר֒ H1642 were overthrown וַיִּפֹּ֤ל H5307 and the Ethiopians מִכּוּשִׁים֙ H3569 לְאֵ֣ין H369 לָהֶ֣ם H1992 that they could not recover מִֽחְיָ֔ה H4241 כִּֽי H3588 themselves for they were destroyed נִשְׁבְּר֥וּ H7665 and before וְלִפְנֵ֣י H6440 the LORD יְהוָ֖ה H3068 and before וְלִפְנֵ֣י H6440 his host מַֽחֲנֵ֑הוּ H4264 and they carried away וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ H5375 spoil שָׁלָ֖ל H7998 much הַרְבֵּ֥ה H7235 very מְאֹֽד׃ H3966 14 And they smote וַיַּכּ֗וּ H5221 אֵ֤ת H853 כָּל H3605 all the cities הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים H5892 round about סְבִיב֣וֹת H5439 Gerar גְּרָ֔ר H1642 כִּֽי H3588 הָיָ֥ה H1961 for the fear פַֽחַד H6343 of the LORD יְהוָ֖ה H3068 עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם H5921 came upon them and they spoiled וַיָּבֹ֙זּוּ֙ H962 אֶת H853 כָּל H3605 all the cities הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים H5892 כִּֽי H3588 spoil בִזָּ֥ה H961 for there was exceeding much רַבָּ֖ה H7227 הָֽיְתָ֥ה H1961 בָהֶֽם׃ H0 15 וְגַם H1571 also the tents אָֽהֳלֵ֥י H168 of cattle מִקְנֶ֖ה H4735 They smote הִכּ֑וּ H5221 and carried away וַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּ H7617 sheep צֹ֤אן H6629 in abundance לָרֹב֙ H7230 and camels וּגְמַלִּ֔ים H1581 and returned
