he mourned מִתְאַבֵּ֖ל H56 עַל H5921 because of the transgression מַ֥עַל H4604 of them that had been carried away הַגּוֹלָֽה׃ H1473 7 And they made proclamation וַיַּֽעֲבִ֨ירוּ H5674 ק֜וֹל H6963 throughout Judah בִּֽיהוּדָ֣ה H3063 and Jerusalem יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 לְכֹל֙ H3605 unto all the children בְּנֵ֣י H1121 of the captivity הַגּוֹלָ֔ה H1473 that they should gather themselves together לְהִקָּבֵ֖ץ H6908 and Jerusalem יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ H3389 8 וְכֹל֩ H3605 אֲשֶׁ֨ר H834 לֹֽא H3808 And that whosoever would not come יָב֜וֹא H935 within three לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת H7969 days הַיָּמִ֗ים H3117 according to the counsel כַּֽעֲצַ֤ת H6098 of the princes הַשָּׂרִים֙ H8269 and the elders וְהַזְּקֵנִ֔ים H2205 should be forfeited יָֽחֳרַ֖ם H2763 כָּל H3605 all his substance רְכוּשׁ֑וֹ H7399 וְה֥וּא H1931 and himself separated יִבָּדֵ֖ל H914 from the congregation מִקְּהַ֥ל H6951 of those that had been carried away הַגּוֹלָֽה׃ H1473 9 gathered themselves together וַיִּקָּֽבְצ֣וּ H6908 כָל H3605 בַּחֹ֑דֶשׁ H2320 It was the ninth הַתְּשִׁיעִ֖י H8671 on the twentieth בְּעֶשְׂרִ֣ים H6242 day of the month בַּחֹ֑דֶשׁ H2320 sat וַיֵּֽשְׁב֣וּ H3427 כָל H3605 and all the people הָעָ֗ם H5971 in the street בִּרְחוֹב֙ H7339 of the house בֵּ֣ית H1004 of God הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים H430 trembling מַרְעִידִ֥ים H7460 עַל H5921 because of this matter הַדָּבָ֖ר H1697 and for the great rain וּמֵֽהַגְּשָׁמִֽים׃ H1653 10 stood up וַיָּ֨קָם H6965 And Ezra עֶזְרָ֤א H5830 the priest הַכֹּהֵן֙ H3548 and said וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 אֲלֵהֶ֔ם H413 אַתֶּ֣ם H859 unto them Ye have transgressed מְעַלְתֶּ֔ם H4603 and have taken וַתֹּשִׁ֖יבוּ H3427 wives נָשִׁ֣ים H802 strange נָכְרִיּ֑וֹת H5237 to increase לְהוֹסִ֖יף H3254 עַל H5921 the trespass אַשְׁמַ֥ת H819 of Israel יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 11 וְעַתָּ֗ה H6258 Now therefore make תְּנ֥וּ H5414 confession תוֹדָ֛ה H8426 unto the LORD לַֽיהוָ֥ה H3068 God אֱלֹהֵֽי H430 of your fathers אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם H1 and do וַֽעֲשׂ֣וּ H6213 his pleasure רְצוֹנ֑וֹ H7522 and separate וְהִבָּֽדְלוּ֙ H914 yourselves from the people מֵֽעַמֵּ֣י H5971 of the land הָאָ֔רֶץ H776 וּמִן H4480 wives הַנָּשִׁ֖ים H802 and from the strange הַנָּכְרִיּֽוֹת׃ H5237 12 answered וַיַּֽעְנ֧וּ H6030 כָֽל H3605 Then all the congregation הַקָּהָ֛ל H6951 and said וַיֹּֽאמְר֖וּ H559 voice ק֣וֹל H6963 with a loud גָּד֑וֹל H1419 כֵּ֛ן H3651 As thou hast said כִּדְבָרְיךָ֥ H1697 עָלֵ֖ינוּ H5921 so must we do לַֽעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ H6213 13 But אֲבָ֞ל H61 the people הָעָ֥ם H5971 are many רָב֙ H7227 and it is a time וְהָעֵ֣ת H6256 of much rain גְּשָׁמִ֔ים H1653 וְאֵ֥ין H369 and we are not able כֹּ֖חַ H3581 to stand לַֽעֲמ֣וֹד H5975 without בַּח֑וּץ H2351 neither is this a work וְהַמְּלָאכָ֗ה H4399 לֹֽא H3808 day לְי֤וֹם H3117 of one אֶחָד֙ H259 וְלֹ֣א H3808 or two לִשְׁנַ֔יִם H8147 כִּֽי H3588 for we are many הִרְבִּ֥ינוּ H7235 that have transgressed לִפְשֹׁ֖עַ H6586 in this thing בַּדָּבָ֥ר H1697 הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 14 stand יַֽעֲמְדוּ H5975 נָ֣א H4994 Let now our rulers שָׂ֠רֵינוּ H8269 לְֽכָל H3605 of all the congregation הַקָּהָ֞ל H6951 וְכֹ֣ל׀ H3605 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 in our cities וָעִ֖יר H5892 and let all them which have taken הַֽהֹשִׁ֞יב H3427 wives נָשִׁ֤ים H802 strange נָכְרִיּוֹת֙ H5237 come יָבֹא֙ H935 times לְעִתִּ֣ים H6256 at appointed מְזֻמָּנִ֔ים H2163 וְעִמָּהֶ֛ם H5973 and with them the elders זִקְנֵי H2205 in our cities וָעִ֖יר H5892 in our cities וָעִ֖יר H5892 and the judges וְשֹֽׁפְטֶ֑יהָ H8199 עַ֠ד H5704 be turned לְהָשִׁ֞יב H7725 thereof until the fierce חֲר֤וֹן H2740 wrath אַף H639 of our God אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ H430 מִמֶּ֔נּוּ H4480 עַ֖ד H5704 for this matter לַדָּבָ֥ר H1697 הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 15 אַ֣ךְ H389 Only Jonathan יֽוֹנָתָ֧ן H3129 the son בֶן H1121 of Asahel עֲשָׂהאֵ֛ל H6214 and Jahaziah וְיַחְזְיָ֥ה H3167 the son בֶן H1121 of Tikvah תִּקְוָ֖ה H8616 were employed עָֽמְד֣וּ H5975 עַל H5921 זֹ֑את H2063 about this matter and Meshullam וּמְשֻׁלָּ֛ם H4918 and Shabbethai וְשַׁבְּתַ֥י H7678 the Levite הַלֵּוִ֖י H3881 helped עֲזָרֻֽם׃ H5826 16 did so וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ H6213 כֵן֮ H3651 And the children בְּנֵ֣י H1121 of the captivity הַגּוֹלָה֒ H1473 were separated וַיִּבָּֽדְלוּ֩ H914 And Ezra עֶזְרָ֨א H5830 the priest הַכֹּהֵ֜ן H3548 אֲנָשִׁ֨ים H376 chief רָאשֵׁ֧י H7218 of the fathers אֲבֹתָ֖ם H1 after the house לְבֵ֥ית H1004 of the fathers אֲבֹתָ֖ם H1 וְכֻלָּ֣ם H3605 and all of them by their names בְּשֵׁמ֑וֹת H8034 and sat down וַיֵּֽשְׁב֗וּ H3427 day בְּי֤וֹם H3117 in the first אֶחָד֙ H259 month לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ H2320 of the tenth הָֽעֲשִׂירִ֔י H6224 to examine לְדַרְי֖וֹשׁ H1875 the matter הַדָּבָֽר׃ H1697 17 And they made an end וַיְכַלּ֣וּ H3615 בַכֹּ֔ל H3605 אֲנָשִׁ֕ים H376 that had taken הַֽהֹשִׁ֖יבוּ H3427 wives נָשִׁ֣ים H802 strange נָכְרִיּ֑וֹת H5237 עַ֛ד H5704 day י֥וֹם H3117 by the first אֶחָ֖ד H259 month לַחֹ֥דֶשׁ H2320 of the first הָֽרִאשֽׁוֹן׃ H7223 18 there were found וַיִּמָּצֵא֙ H4672 And among the sons בֶּן H1121 of the priests הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים H3548 אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 that had taken הֹשִׁ֖יבוּ H3427 wives נָשִׁ֣ים H802 strange נָכְרִיּ֑וֹת H5237 And among the sons בֶּן H1121 of Jeshua יֵשׁ֤וּעַ H3442 And among the sons בֶּן H1121 of Jozadak יֽוֹצָדָק֙ H3136 and his brethren וְאֶחָ֔יו H251 Maaseiah מַֽעֲשֵׂיָה֙ H4641 and Eliezer וֶֽאֱלִיעֶ֔זֶר H461 and Jarib וְיָרִ֖יב H3402 and Gedaliah וּגְדַלְיָֽה׃ H1436 19 And they gave וַיִּתְּנ֥וּ H5414 their hands יָדָ֖ם H3027 that they would put away לְהוֹצִ֣יא H3318 their wives נְשֵׁיהֶ֑ם H802 and being guilty וַֽאֲשֵׁמִ֥ים H818 they offered a ram אֵֽיל H352 of the flock צֹ֖אן H6629 עַל H5921 for their trespass אַשְׁמָתָֽם׃ H819 20 And of the sons וּמִבְּנֵ֣י H1121 of Immer אִמֵּ֔ר H564 Hanani חֲנָ֖נִי H2607 and Zebadiah וּזְבַדְיָֽה׃ H2069 21 And of the sons וּמִבְּנֵ֖י H1121 of Harim חָרִ֑ם H2766 Maaseiah מַֽעֲשֵׂיָ֤ה H4641 and Elijah וְאֵֽלִיָּה֙ H452 and Shemaiah וּֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֔ה H8098 and Jehiel וִֽיחִיאֵ֖ל H3171 and Uzziah וְעֻזִיָּֽה׃ H5818 22 And of the sons וּמִבְּנֵ֖י H1121 of Pashur פַּשְׁח֑וּר H6583 Elioenai אֶלְיֽוֹעֵינַ֤י H454 Maaseiah מַֽעֲשֵׂיָה֙ H4641 Ishmael יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל H3458 Nethaneel נְתַנְאֵ֔ל H5417 Jozabad יֽוֹזָבָ֖ד H3107 and Elasah וְאֶלְעָשָֽׂה׃ H501 23 וּמִֽן H4480 Also of the Levites הַלְוִיִּ֑ם H3881 Jozabad יֽוֹזָבָ֣ד H3107 and Shimei וְשִׁמְעִ֗י H8096 and Kelaiah וְקֵֽלָיָה֙ H7041 ה֣וּא H1931 the same is Kelita קְלִיטָ֔א H7042 Pethahiah פְּתַֽחְיָ֥ה H6611 Judah יְהוּדָ֖ה H3063 and Eliezer וֶֽאֱלִיעֶֽזֶר׃ H461 24 וּמִן H4480 H2240 Elioenai אֶלְיֽוֹעֵנַ֤י H454 Eliashib אֶלְיָשִׁיב֙ H475 Mattaniah מַתַּנְיָ֣ה H4983 and Jeremoth וִֽירֵמ֔וֹת H3406 and Zabad וְזָבָ֖ד H2066 and Aziza וַֽעֲזִיזָֽא׃ H5819 28 Of the sons
