and interpreted וּמְתֻרְגָּ֥ם H8638 in the Syrian tongue אֲרָמִֽית׃ H762 8 Rehum רְח֣וּם H7348 the chancellor בְּעֵל H1169 טְעֵ֗ם H2942 and Shimshai וְשִׁמְשַׁי֙ H8124 the scribe סָֽפְרָ֔א H5613 wrote כְּתַ֛בוּ H3790 letter אִגְּרָ֥ה H104 a חֲדָ֖ה H2298 against עַל H5922 Jerusalem יְרֽוּשְׁלֶ֑ם H3390 to Artaxerxes לְאַרְתַּחְשַׁ֥שְׂתְּא H783 the king מַלְכָּ֖א H4430 in this sort כְּנֵֽמָא׃ H3660 9 whom דִּ֣י H1768 brought over הַגְלִי֙ H1541 Asnappar אָֽסְנַפַּר֙ H620 the great רַבָּ֣א H7229 and noble וְיַקִּירָ֔א H3358 and set וְהוֹתֵ֣ב H3488 הִמּ֔וֹ H1994 in the cities בְּקִרְיָ֖ה H7149 whom אֲת֖וֹ H858 unto Jerusalem לִירֽוּשְׁלֶ֑ם H3390 city קִרְיְתָ֨א H7149 the rebellious מָֽרָדְתָּ֤א H4779 and the bad וּבִֽאישְׁתָּא֙ H873 building בָּנַ֔יִן H1124 the walls וְשׁוּרַיָּ֣א H7792 and have set up אשַׁכְלִ֔לוּ H3635 the foundations וְאֻשַּׁיָּ֖א H787 thereof and joined יַחִֽיטוּ׃ H2338 13 now כְּעַ֗ן H3705 Be it known יְדִ֙יעַ֙ H3046 לֶֽהֱוֵ֣א H1934 of the kings מַלְכִ֖ים H4430 דִּ֠י H1768 that if הֵ֣ן H2006 city קִרְיְתָ֥א H7149 this דָךְ֙ H1791 be builded תִּתְבְּנֵ֔א H1124 and the walls וְשׁוּרַיָּ֖ה H7792 set up יִֽשְׁתַּכְלְל֑וּן H3635 toll מִנְדָּֽה H4061 tribute בְל֤וֹ H1093 and custom וַֽהֲלָךְ֙ H1983 again then will they not לָ֣א H3809 pay יִנְתְּנ֔וּן H5415 the revenue וְאַפְּתֹ֥ם H674 of the kings מַלְכִ֖ים H4430 and so thou shalt endamage תְּהַנְזִֽק׃ H5142 14 king לְמַלְכָּֽא׃ H4430 15 דִּ֡י H1768 That search יְבַקַּר֩ H1240 in the book בִּסְפַ֣ר H5609 of the records דָּכְרָֽנַיָּא֮ H1799 דִּ֣י H1768 of thy fathers אֲבָֽהָתָ֗ךְ H2 so shalt thou find וּ֠תְהַשְׁכַּח H7912 in the book בִּסְפַ֣ר H5609 of the records דָּכְרָֽנַיָּא֮ H1799 and know וְתִנְדַּע֒ H3046 דִּי֩ H1768 city קִרְיְתָ֥א H7149 cause was this דָ֖ךְ H1791 city קִרְיְתָ֥א H7149 is a rebellious מָֽרָדָ֗א H4779 and hurtful וּֽמְהַנְזְקַ֤ת H5142 unto kings מַלְכִין֙ H4430 and provinces וּמְדִנָ֔ן H4083 sedition וְאֶשְׁתַּדּוּר֙ H849 and that they have moved עָֽבְדִ֣ין H5648 the same בְּגַוַּ֔הּ H1459 within מִן H4481 time יוֹמָ֖ת H3118 of old עָֽלְמָ֑א H5957 for עַ֨ל H5922 which דְּנָ֔ה H1836 city קִרְיְתָ֥א H7149 cause was this דָ֖ךְ H1791 destroyed הָֽחָרְבַֽת׃ H2718 16 certify מְהֽוֹדְעִ֤ין H3046 We אֲנַ֙חְנָה֙ H586 the king לְמַלְכָּ֔א H4430 דִּ֠י H1768 that if הֵ֣ן H2006 city קִרְיְתָ֥א H7149 this דָךְ֙ H1791 be builded תִּתְבְּנֵ֔א H1124 again and the walls וְשֽׁוּרַיָּ֖ה H7792 thereof set up יִֽשְׁתַּכְלְל֑וּן H3635 means לָֽקֳבֵ֣ל H6903 by this דְּנָ֔ה H1836 portion חֲלָק֙ H2508 on this side בַּֽעֲבַ֣ר H5675 the river נַֽהֲרָ֔א H5103 no לָ֥א H3809 thou H8115 and to the rest וּשְׁאָ֧ר H7606 beyond עֲבַֽר H5675 the river נַהֲרָ֛ה H5103 Peace שְׁלָ֖ם H8001 and at such a time וּכְעֶֽת׃ H3706 18 The letter נִשְׁתְּוָנָ֕א H5407 דִּ֥י H1768 which ye sent שְׁלַחְתּ֖וּן H7972 unto us עֲלֶ֑ינָא H5922 hath been plainly מְפָרַ֥שׁ H6568 read קֱרִ֖י H7123 before קָֽדָמָֽי׃ H6925 19 And I מִן H4481 commanded שִׂ֣ים H7761 טְעֵם֒ H2942 and search וּבַקַּ֣רוּ H1240 hath been made and it is found וְהַשְׁכַּ֔חוּ H7912 דִּ֚י H1768 city קִרְיְתָ֣א H7149 that this דָ֔ךְ H1791 And I מִן H4481 time יוֹמָת֙ H3118 old עָֽלְמָ֔א H5957 against עַל H5922 kings מַלְכִ֖ין H4430 hath made insurrection מִֽתְנַשְּׂאָ֑ה H5376 and that rebellion וּמְרַ֥ד H4776 and sedition וְאֶשְׁתַּדּ֖וּר H849 have been made מִתְעֲבֶד H5648 בַּֽהּ׃ H0 20 kings וּמַלְכִ֣ין H4430 mighty תַּקִּיפִ֗ין H8624 There have been הֲווֹ֙ H1934 also over עַל H5922 Jerusalem יְר֣וּשְׁלֶ֔ם H3390 which have ruled וְשַׁ֨לִּיטִ֔ין H7990 over all בְּכֹ֖ל H3606 countries beyond עֲבַ֣ר H5675 the river נַֽהֲרָ֑ה H5103 and toll וּמִדָּ֥ה H4061 tribute בְל֛וֹ H1093 and custom וַֽהֲלָ֖ךְ H1983 was paid מִתְיְהֵ֥ב H3052 לְהֽוֹן׃ H0 21 ye now כְּעַן֙ H3705 Give יִתְּשָֽׂם׃ H7761 commandment טְּעֵ֔ם H2942 to cause לְבַטָּלָ֖א H989 men גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א H1400 these אִלֵּ֑ךְ H479 city וְקִרְיְתָ֥א H7149 and that this דָךְ֙ H1791 be not לָ֣א H3809 builded תִתְבְּנֵ֔א H1124 until עַד H5705 from me מִנִּ֖י H4481 another commandment טַעְמָ֥א H2941 Give יִתְּשָֽׂם׃ H7761 22 וּזְהִירִ֥ין H2095 Take heed הֱו֛וֹ H1934 now that ye fail שָׁל֖וּ H7960 לְמֶעְבַּ֣ד H5648 not to do עַל H5922 this דְּנָ֑ה H1836 why לְמָה֙ H4101 grow יִשְׂגֵּ֣א H7680 should damage חֲבָלָ֔א H2257 to the hurt לְהַנְזָקַ֖ת H5142 of the kings מַלְכִֽין׃ H4430 23 Now אֱדַ֗יִן H116 when מִן H4481 דִּ֞י H1768 the copy פַּרְשֶׁ֤גֶן H6573 letter נִשְׁתְּוָנָא֙ H5407 דִּ֚י H1768 Artaxerxes אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֣שְׂתְּא H783 of king מַלְכָּ֔א H4430 was read קֱרִ֧י H7123 before קֳדָם H6925 Rehum רְח֛וּם H7348 and Shimshai וְשִׁמְשַׁ֥י H8124 the scribe סָֽפְרָ֖א H5613 and their companions וּכְנָוָֽתְה֑וֹן H3675 they went up אֲזַ֨לוּ H236 in haste בִבְהִיל֤וּ H924 to Jerusalem לִירֽוּשְׁלֶם֙ H3390 unto עַל H5922 the Jews יְה֣וּדָיֵ֔א H3062 to cease וּבַטִּ֥לוּ H989 and made them הִמּ֖וֹ H1994 by force בְּאֶדְרָ֥ע H153 and power וְחָֽיִל׃ H2429 24 Then בֵּאדַ֗יִן H116 ceased בָּֽטְלָ֔א H989 the work עֲבִידַ֣ת H5673 of the house בֵּית H1005
