name וּשְׁמ֥וֹ H8034 was Hirah חִירָֽה׃ H2437 2 saw וַיַּרְא H7200 שָׁ֧ם H8033 And Judah יְהוּדָ֛ה H3063 there a daughter בַּת H1323 of a certain אִ֥ישׁ H376 Canaanite כְּנַֽעֲנִ֖י H3669 whose name וּשְׁמ֣וֹ H8034 was Shuah שׁ֑וּעַ H7770 and he took her וַיִּקָּחֶ֖הָ H3947 and went in וַיָּבֹ֥א H935 אֵלֶֽיהָ׃ H413 3 And she conceived וַתַּ֖הַר H2029 and bare וַתֵּ֣לֶד H3205 a son בֵּ֑ן H1121 and he called וַיִּקְרָ֥א H7121 אֶת H853 his name שְׁמ֖וֹ H8034 Er עֵֽר׃ H6147 4 And she conceived וַתַּ֥הַר H2029 ע֖וֹד H5750 again and bare וַתֵּ֣לֶד H3205 a son בֵּ֑ן H1121 and she called וַתִּקְרָ֥א אִשָּׁ֖ה H802 for Er לְעֵ֣ר H6147 his firstborn בְּכוֹר֑וֹ H1060 whose name וּשְׁמָ֖הּ H8034 was Tamar תָּמָֽר׃ H8559 7 וַיְהִ֗י H1961 And Er עֵ֚ר H6147 firstborn בְּכ֣וֹר H1060 Judah's יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 was wicked רַ֖ע H7451 in the sight בְּעֵינֵ֣י H5869 and the LORD יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 slew וַיְמִתֵ֖הוּ H4191 and the LORD יְהוָֽה׃ H3068 8 said וַיֹּ֤אמֶר H559 And Judah יְהוּדָה֙ H3063 unto Onan לְאוֹנָ֔ן H209 Go in בֹּ֛א H935 אֶל H413 wife אֵ֥שֶׁת H802 to thy brother לְאָחִֽיךָ׃ H251 and marry וְיַבֵּ֣ם H2992 אֹתָ֑הּ H853 her and raise up וְהָקֵ֥ם H6965 seed זֶ֖רַע H2233 to thy brother לְאָחִֽיךָ׃ H251 9 knew וַיֵּ֣דַע H3045 And Onan אוֹנָ֔ן H209 כִּ֛י H3588 לֹּ֥א H3808 ל֖וֹ H0 יִֽהְיֶ֣ה H1961 seed זֶ֖רַע H2233 וְהָיָ֞ה H1961 should not be his and it came to pass when אִם H518 he H1571 אֹתֽוֹ׃ H853 11 Then said אָמַ֔ר H559 Judah יְהוּדָה֩ H3063 did And Tamar תָּמָ֔ר H8559 his daughter in law כַּלָּת֜וֹ H3618 Remain וַתֵּ֖שֶׁב H3427 a widow אַלְמָנָ֣ה H490 house בֵּ֥ית H1004 at thy father's אָבִֽיהָ׃ H1 עַד H5704 be grown יִגְדַּל֙ H1431 till Shelah שֵׁלָ֣ה H7956 my son בְנִ֔י H1121 כִּ֣י H3588 Then said אָמַ֔ר H559 פֶּן H6435 Lest peradventure he die יָמ֥וּת H4191 גַּם H1571 ה֖וּא H1931 also as his brethren כְּאֶחָ֑יו H251 וַתֵּ֣לֶךְ H1980 did And Tamar תָּמָ֔ר H8559 Remain וַתֵּ֖שֶׁב H3427 house בֵּ֥ית H1004 at thy father's אָבִֽיהָ׃ H1 12 And in process וַיִּרְבּוּ֙ H7235 of time הַיָּמִ֔ים H3117 died וַתָּ֖מָת H4191 the daughter בַּת H1323 of Shuah שׁ֣וּעַ H7770 wife אֵֽשֶׁת H802 Judah's יְהוּדָ֗ה H3063 was comforted וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם H5162 Judah's יְהוּדָ֗ה H3063 and went up וַיַּ֜עַל H5927 עַל H5921 unto his sheepshearers גֹּֽזֲזֵ֤י H1494 צֹאנוֹ֙ H6629 ה֗וּא H1931 Hirah וְחִירָ֛ה H2437 he and his friend רֵעֵ֥הוּ H7453 the Adullamite הָֽעֲדֻלָּמִ֖י H5726 to Timnath תִּמְנָֽתָה׃ H8553 13 And it was told וַיֻּגַּ֥ד H5046 Tamar לְתָמָ֖ר H8559 saying לֵאמֹ֑ר H559 הִנֵּ֥ה H2009 Behold thy father in law חָמִ֛יךְ H2524 goeth up עֹלֶ֥ה H5927 to Timnath תִמְנָ֖תָה H8553 to shear לָגֹ֥ז H1494 his sheep צֹאנֽוֹ׃ H6629 14 And she put וַתָּסַר֩ H5493 garments בִּגְדֵ֨י H899 her widow's אַלְמְנוּתָ֜הּ H491 מֵֽעָלֶ֗יהָ H5921 from her and covered her וַתְּכַ֤ס H3680 with a vail בַּצָּעִיף֙ H6809 and wrapped herself וַתִּתְעַלָּ֔ף H5968 and sat in וַתֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ H3427 place בְּפֶ֣תַח H6607 an open עֵינַ֔יִם H5869 אֲשֶׁ֖ר H834 עַל H5921 which is by the way דֶּ֣רֶךְ H1870 to Timnath תִּמְנָ֑תָה H8553 כִּ֤י H3588 for she saw רָֽאֲתָה֙ H7200 כִּֽי H3588 was grown גָדַ֣ל H1431 that Shelah שֵׁלָ֔ה H7956 וְהִ֕וא H1931 לֹֽא H3808 and she was not given נִתְּנָ֥ה H5414 ל֖וֹ H0 unto him to wife לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ H802 15 saw her וַיִּרְאֶ֣הָ H7200 When Judah יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 he thought וַֽיַּחְשְׁבֶ֖הָ H2803 her to be an harlot לְזוֹנָ֑ה H2181 כִּ֥י H3588 because she had covered כִסְּתָ֖ה H3680 her face פָּנֶֽיהָ׃ H6440 16 And he turned וַיֵּ֨ט H5186 אֵלֶ֜יהָ H413 אֶל H413 unto her by the way הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ H1870 And she said וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 Go to הָֽבָה H3051 נָּא֙ H4994 I pray thee let me come in תָב֖וֹא H935 אֵלַ֔יִךְ H413 כִּ֚י H3588 לֹ֣א H3808 unto thee (for he knew יָדַ֔ע H3045 כִּ֥י H3588 not that she was his daughter in law כַלָּת֖וֹ H3618 הִ֑וא H1931 And she said וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 מַה H4100 What wilt thou give תִּתֶּן H5414 לִּ֔י H0 כִּ֥י H3588 I pray thee let me come in תָב֖וֹא H935 אֵלָֽי׃ H413 17 And he said וַתֹּ֕אמֶר H559 אָֽנֹכִ֛י H595 I will send שָׁלְחֶֽךָ׃ H7971 גְּדִֽי H1423 thee a kid עִזִּ֖ים H5795 מִן H4480 from the flock הַצֹּ֑אן H6629 And he said וַתֹּ֕אמֶר H559 אִם H518 Wilt thou give תִּתֵּ֥ן H5414 me a pledge עֵֽרָב֖וֹן H6162 עַ֥ד H5704 I will send שָׁלְחֶֽךָ׃ H7971 18 And he said וַתֹּ֗אמֶר H559 מָ֣ה H4100 pledge הָֽעֵרָבוֹן֮ H6162 What אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 And he gave וַיִּתֶּן H5414 לָּךְ֒ H0 And he said וַתֹּ֗אמֶר H559 Thy signet חֹתָֽמְךָ֙ H2368 and thy bracelets וּפְתִילֶ֔ךָ H6616 and thy staff וּמַטְּךָ֖ H4294 What אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 that is in thine hand בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ H3027 And he gave וַיִּתֶּן H5414 לָּ֛הּ H0 it her and came in וַיָּבֹ֥א H935 אֵלֶ֖יהָ H413 unto her and she conceived וַתַּ֥הַר H2029 לֽוֹ׃ H0 19 And she arose וַתָּ֣קָם H6965 וַתֵּ֔לֶךְ H1980 and laid by וַתָּ֥סַר H5493 her vail צְעִיפָ֖הּ H6809 מֵֽעָלֶ֑יהָ H5921 from her and put on וַתִּלְבַּ֖שׁ H3847 the garments בִּגְדֵ֥י H899 of her widowhood אַלְמְנוּתָֽהּ׃ H491 20 sent וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח H7971 And Judah יְהוּדָ֜ה H3063 אֶת H853 the kid גְּדִ֣י H1423 הָֽעִזִּ֗ים H5795 by the hand מִיַּ֣ד H3027 of his friend רֵעֵ֣הוּ H7453 the Adullamite הָֽעֲדֻלָּמִ֔י H5726 to receive לָקַ֥חַת H3947 his pledge הָעֵֽרָב֖וֹן H6162 by the hand מִיַּ֣ד H3027 from the woman's הָֽאִשָּׁ֑ה H802 וְלֹ֖א H3808 but he found her מְצָאָֽהּ׃ H4672 21 Then he asked וַיִּשְׁאַ֞ל H7592 אֶת H853 the men אַנְשֵׁ֤י H582 of that place מְקֹמָהּ֙ H4725 And they said וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ H559 אַיֵּ֧ה H346 There was no harlot קְדֵשָֽׁה׃ H6948 הִ֥וא H1931 בָֽעֵינַ֖יִם H5879 עַל H5921 by the way side הַדָּ֑רֶךְ H1870 And they said וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ H559 לֹֽא H3808 הָיְתָ֥ה H1961 in this בָזֶ֖ה H2088 There was no harlot קְדֵשָֽׁה׃ H6948 22 And he returned וַיָּ֙שָׁב֙ H7725 אֶל H413 to Judah יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 and said אָֽמְר֔וּ H559 I cannot לֹֽא H3808 find מְצָאתִ֑יהָ H4672 וְגַ֨ם H1571 אַנְשֵׁ֤י H376 of the place הַמָּקוֹם֙ H4725 and said אָֽמְר֔וּ H559 I cannot לֹֽא H3808 הָיְתָ֥ה H1961 בָזֶ֖ה H2088 that there was no harlot קְדֵשָֽׁה׃ H6948 23 said וַיֹּ֤אמֶר H559 And Judah יְהוּדָה֙ H3063 Let her take תִּֽקַּֽח H3947 לָ֔הּ H0 פֶּ֖ן H6435 נִֽהְיֶ֣ה H1961 it to her lest we be shamed לָב֑וּז H937 הִנֵּ֤ה H2009 behold I sent שָׁלַ֙חְתִּי֙ H7971 this kid הַגְּדִ֣י H1423 הַזֶּ֔ה H2088 וְאַתָּ֖ה H859 לֹ֥א H3808 and thou hast not found מְצָאתָֽהּ׃ H4672 24 וַיְהִ֣י׀ H1961 And it came to pass about three כְּמִשְׁלֹ֣שׁ H7969 months חֳדָשִׁ֗ים H2320 after that it was told וַיֻּגַּ֨ד H5046 And Judah יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 said וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 hath played the harlot זָֽנְתָה֙ H2181 Tamar תָּמָ֣ר H8559 thy daughter in law כַּלָּתֶ֔ךָ H3618 וְגַ֛ם H1571 הִנֵּ֥ה H2009 and also behold she is with child הָרָ֖ה H2030 by whoredom לִזְנוּנִ֑ים H2183 said וַיֹּ֣אמֶר H559 And Judah יְהוּדָ֔ה H3063 Bring her forth הֽוֹצִיא֖וּהָ H3318 and let her be burnt וְתִשָּׂרֵֽף׃ H8313 25 הִ֣וא H1931 When she was brought forth מוּצֵ֗את H3318 וְהִ֨יא H1931 she sent שָֽׁלְחָ֤ה H7971 אֶל H413 to her father in law חָמִ֙יהָ֙ H2524 and she said וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 לְאִישׁ֙ H582 אֲשֶׁר H834 אֵ֣לֶּה H428 לּ֔וֹ H0 אָֽנֹכִ֖י H595 whose these are am I with child הָרָ֑ה H2030 and she said וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 Discern הַכֶּר H5234 נָ֔א H4994 לְמִ֞י H4310 I pray thee whose are these the signet הַחֹתֶ֧מֶת H2858 and bracelets וְהַפְּתִילִ֛ים H6616 and staff וְהַמַּטֶּ֖ה H4294 הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ H428 26 acknowledged וַיַּכֵּ֣ר H5234 And Judah יְהוּדָ֗ה H3063 them and said וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ H559 She hath been more righteous צָֽדְקָ֣ה H6663 מִמֶּ֔נִּי H4480 כִּֽי H3588 עַל H5921 כֵּ֥ן H3651 לֹֽא H3808 than I because that I gave נְתַתִּ֖יהָ H5414 her not to Shelah לְשֵׁלָ֣ה H7956 my son בְנִ֑י H1121 וְלֹֽא H3808 again יָסַ֥ף H3254 ע֖וֹד H5750 And he knew her לְדַעְתָּֽה׃ H3045 27 וַיְהִ֖י H1961 And it came to pass in the time בְּעֵ֣ת H6256 of her travail לִדְתָּ֑הּ H3205 וְהִנֵּ֥ה H2009 that behold twins תְאוֹמִ֖ים H8380 were in her womb בְּבִטְנָֽהּ׃ H990 28 וַיְהִ֥י H1961 And it came to pass when she travailed הַמְיַלֶּ֗דֶת H3205 that the one put out וַיִּתֶּן H5414 his hand יָד֤וֹ H3027 took וַתִּקַּ֣ח H3947 And it came to pass when she travailed הַמְיַלֶּ֗דֶת H3205 and bound וַתִּקְשֹׁ֨ר H7194 עַל H5921 his hand יָד֤וֹ H3027 a scarlet thread שָׁנִי֙ H8144 saying לֵאמֹ֔ר H559 זֶ֖ה H2088 This came out יָצָ֥א H3318 first רִֽאשֹׁנָֽה׃ H7223 29 וַיְהִ֣י׀ H1961 And it came to pass as he drew back כְּמֵשִׁ֣יב H7725 his hand יָד֗וֹ H3027 וְהִנֵּה֙ H2009 came out יָצָ֣א H3318 that behold his brother אָחִ֔יו H251 and she said וַתֹּ֕אמֶר H559 מַה H4100 How hast thou broken forth פָּרַ֖צְתָּ H6555 עָלֶ֣יךָ H5921 this breach פָּ֑רֶץ H6556 was called וַיִּקְרָ֥א H7121 be upon thee therefore his name שְׁמ֖וֹ H8034 Pharez פָּֽרֶץ׃ H6557 30 And afterward וְאַחַר֙ H310 came out יָצָ֣א H3318 his brother אָחִ֔יו H251 אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 עַל H5921
