went up עָלוּ֙ H5927 and drew nigh וַֽיִּגְּשׁ֔וּ H5066 and came וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ H935 נֶ֣גֶד H5048 before the city הָעִ֑יר H5892 and pitched וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ H2583 on the north side מִצְּפ֣וֹן H6828 between them and Ai הָעָֽי׃ H5857 now there was a valley וְהַגַּ֖י H1516 בֵּינָ֥ו H996 וּבֵין H996 between them and Ai הָעָֽי׃ H5857 12 And he took וַיִּקַּ֕ח H3947 about five כַּֽחֲמֵ֥שֶׁת H2568 thousand אֲלָפִ֖ים H505 men אִ֑ישׁ H376 and set וַיָּ֨שֶׂם H7760 אוֹתָ֜ם H853 them to lie in ambush אֹרֵ֗ב H693 בֵּ֧ין H996 בֵּֽית H0 between Bethel אֵ֛ל H1008 וּבֵ֥ין H996 and Ai הָעַ֖י H5857 on the west side מִיָּ֥ם H3220 לָעִֽיר׃ H5892 13 And when they had set וַיָּשִׂ֨ימוּ H7760 the people הָעָ֜ם H5971 אֶת H853 כָּל H3605 even all the host הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה H4264 אֲשֶׁר֙ H834 that was on the north מִצְּפ֣וֹן H6828 of the city לָעִ֑יר H5892 וְאֶת H853 and their liers in wait עֲקֵב֖וֹ H6119 on the west מִיָּ֣ם H3220 of the city לָעִ֑יר H5892 וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ H1980 Joshua יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ H3091 that night בַּלַּ֥יְלָה H3915 הַה֖וּא H1931 into the midst בְּת֥וֹךְ H8432 of the valley הָעֵֽמֶק׃ H6010 14 וַיְהִ֞י H1961 saw כִּרְא֣וֹת H7200 And it came to pass when the king מֶֽלֶךְ H4428 of Ai הָעַ֗י H5857 it that they hasted וַֽיְמַהֲר֡וּ H4116 and rose up early וַיַּשְׁכִּ֡ימוּ H7925 went out וַיֵּֽצְא֣וּ H3318 and the men אַנְשֵֽׁי H582 of the city הָעִֽיר׃ H5892 against לִקְרַֽאת H7125 Israel יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל H3478 to battle לַֽמִּלְחָמָ֞ה H4421 ה֧וּא H1931 וְכָל H3605 he and all his people עַמּ֛וֹ H5971 at a time appointed לַמּוֹעֵ֖ד H4150 before לִפְנֵ֣י H6440 the plain הָֽעֲרָבָ֑ה H6160 וְהוּא֙ H1931 לֹ֣א H3808 but he wist יָדַ֔ע H3045 כִּֽי H3588 not that there were liers in ambush אֹרֵ֥ב H693 ל֖וֹ H0 against him behind מֵאַֽחֲרֵ֥י H310 of the city הָעִֽיר׃ H5892 15 made as if they were beaten וַיִּנָּֽגְע֛וּ H5060 And Joshua יְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַ H3091 וְכָל H3605 and all Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל H3478 before לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם H6440 them and fled וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ H5127 by the way דֶּ֥רֶךְ H1870 of the wilderness הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ H4057 16 were called וַיִּזָּֽעֲק֗וּ H2199 כָּל H3605 And all the people הָעָם֙ H5971 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 from the city הָעִֽיר׃ H5892 them and they pursued וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ H7291 after יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 and they left וַיַּֽעַזְב֤וּ H5800 אֶת H853 the city הָעִיר֙ H5892 open פְּתוּחָ֔ה H6605 and pursued וַֽיִּרְדְּפ֖וּ H7291 after אַֽחֲרֵ֥י H310 Israel יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ H3478 18 said וַיֹּ֨אמֶר H559 And the LORD יְהוָ֜ה H3068 אֶל H413 And Joshua יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ H3091 Stretch out וַיֵּ֧ט H5186 the spear בַּכִּיד֥וֹן H3591 אֲשֶׁר H834 it into thine hand בְּיָד֖וֹ H3027 אֶל H413 toward Ai הָעַ֔י H5857 כִּ֥י H3588 it into thine hand בְּיָד֖וֹ H3027 for I will give אֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה H5414 Stretch out וַיֵּ֧ט H5186 And Joshua יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ H3091 the spear בַּכִּיד֥וֹן H3591 אֲשֶׁר H834 it into thine hand בְּיָד֖וֹ H3027 אֶל H413 toward the city הָעִֽיר׃ H5892 19 And the ambush וְהָֽאוֹרֵ֡ב H693 arose קָם֩ H6965 quickly מְהֵרָ֨ה H4120 out of their place מִמְּקוֹמ֤וֹ H4725 and they ran וַיָּר֙וּצוּ֙ H7323 as soon as he had stretched out כִּנְט֣וֹת H5186 his hand יָד֔וֹ H3027 and they entered וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ H935 into the city הָעִ֖יר H5892 and took וַֽיִּלְכְּד֑וּהָ H3920 it and hasted וַֽיְמַהֲר֔וּ H4116 and set וַיַּצִּ֥יתוּ H3341 אֶת H853 into the city הָעִ֖יר H5892 on fire בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ H784 20 looked וַיִּפְנ֣וּ H6437 אַנְשֵׁי֩ H376 of Ai הָעַ֨י H5857 behind אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֜ם H310 them they saw וַיִּרְא֗וּ H7200 וְהִנֵּ֨ה H2009 ascended up עָלָ֜ה H5927 and behold the smoke עֲשַׁ֤ן H6227 of the city הָעִיר֙ H5892 to heaven הַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָה H8064 וְלֹֽא H3808 הָיָ֨ה H1961 בָהֶ֥ם H0 and they had no power יָדַ֛יִם H3027 that fled הַנָּ֣ס H5127 this way or that way וָהֵ֑נָּה H2008 this way or that way וָהֵ֑נָּה H2008 and the people וְהָעָם֙ H5971 that fled הַנָּ֣ס H5127 to the wilderness הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר H4057 turned back נֶהְפַּ֖ךְ H2015 אֶל H413 upon the pursuers הָֽרוֹדֵֽף׃ H7291 21 And when Joshua וִֽיהוֹשֻׁ֨עַ H3091 וְכָל H3605 and all Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל H3478 saw רָא֗וּ H7200 כִּֽי H3588 had taken לָכַ֤ד H3920 that the ambush הָֽאֹרֵב֙ H693 אֶת H853 of the city הָעִ֑יר H5892 וְכִ֥י H3588 ascended עָלָ֖ה H5927 and that the smoke עֲשַׁ֣ן H6227 of the city הָעִ֑יר H5892 then they turned again וַיָּשֻׁ֕בוּ H7725 and slew וַיַּכּ֖וּ H5221 אֶת H853 the men אַנְשֵׁ֥י H582 of Ai הָעָֽי׃ H5857 22 And the other וְאֵ֣לֶּה H428 issued out יָֽצְא֤וּ H3318 מִן H4480 of the city הָעִיר֙ H5892 against לִקְרָאתָ֔ם H7125 וַיִּֽהְי֤וּ H1961 of Israel לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 them so they were in the midst בַּתָּ֔וֶךְ H8432 And the other וְאֵ֣לֶּה H428 מִזֶּ֖ה H2088 And the other וְאֵ֣לֶּה H428 מִזֶּ֑ה H2088 some on this side and some on that side and they smote וַיַּכּ֣וּ H5221 אוֹתָ֔ם H853 them so that עַד H5704 בִּלְתִּ֥י H1115 they let הִשְׁאִֽיר H7604 ל֖וֹ H0 none of them remain שָׂרִ֥יד H8300 or escape וּפָלִֽיט׃ H6412 23 וְאֶת H853 And the king מֶ֥לֶךְ H4428 of Ai הָעַ֖י H5857 they took תָּ֣פְשׂוּ H8610 alive חָ֑י H2416 and brought וַיַּקְרִ֥בוּ H7126 אֹת֖וֹ H853 אֶל H413 him to Joshua יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃ H3091 24 וַיְהִ֣י H1961 had made an end כְּכַלּ֣וֹת H3615 And it came to pass when Israel יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 of slaying לַֽהֲרֹג֩ H2026 אֶת H853 כָּל H3605 all the inhabitants יֹֽשְׁבֵ֨י H3427 of Ai הָעַ֔י H5857 in the field בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה H7704 in the wilderness בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ H4057 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 wherein they chased רְדָפ֣וּם H7291 בּ֔וֹ H0 them and when they were all fallen וַֽיִּפְּל֥וּ H5307 כֻלָּ֛ם H3605 it with the edge לְפִי H6310 of the sword חָֽרֶב׃ H2719 עַד H5704 until they were consumed תֻּמָּ֑ם H8552 returned וַיָּשֻׁ֤בוּ H7725 כָל H3605 And it came to pass when Israel יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ H3478 of Ai הָעַ֔י H5857 and smote וַיַּכּ֥וּ H5221 אֹתָ֖הּ H853 it with the edge לְפִי H6310 of the sword חָֽרֶב׃ H2719 25 וַיְהִי֩ H1961 כָל H3605 And so it was that all that fell הַנֹּ֨פְלִ֜ים H5307 that day בַּיּ֤וֹם H3117 הַהוּא֙ H1931 both of men אַנְשֵׁ֥י H376 וְעַד H5704 and women אִשָּׁ֔ה H802 were twelve שְׁנֵ֥ים H8147 עָשָׂ֖ר H6240 thousand אָ֑לֶף H505 כֹּ֖ל H3605 both of men אַנְשֵׁ֥י H376 of Ai הָעָֽי׃ H5857 26 For Joshua וִֽיהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ H3091 לֹֽא H3808 back הֵשִׁ֣יב H7725 not his hand יָד֔וֹ H3027 אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 wherewith he stretched out נָטָ֖ה H5186 the spear בַּכִּיד֑וֹן H3591 עַ֚ד H5704 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 until he had utterly destroyed הֶֽחֱרִ֔ים H2763 אֵ֖ת H853 כָּל H3605 all the inhabitants יֹֽשְׁבֵ֥י H3427 of Ai הָעָֽי׃ H5857 27 רַ֣ק H7535 Only the cattle הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה H929 and the spoil וּשְׁלַל֙ H7998 of that city הָעִ֣יר H5892 הַהִ֔יא H1931 took for a prey בָּֽזְז֥וּ H962 לָהֶ֖ם H1992 Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 unto themselves according unto the word כִּדְבַ֣ר H1697 of the LORD יְהוָ֔ה H3068 אֲשֶׁ֥ר H834 which he commanded צִוָּ֖ה H6680 אֶת H853 Joshua יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃ H3091 28 burnt וַיִּשְׂרֹ֥ף H8313 And Joshua יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ H3091 אֶת H853 Ai הָעָ֑י H5857 and made וַיְשִׂימֶ֤הָ H7760 it an heap תֵּל H8510 for ever עוֹלָם֙ H5769 even a desolation שְׁמָמָ֔ה H8077 עַ֖ד H5704 unto this day הַיּ֥וֹם H3117 הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 29 וְאֶת H853 And the king מֶ֧לֶךְ H4428 of Ai הָעַ֛י H5857 he hanged תָּלָ֥ה H8518 עַל H5921 from the tree הָעֵ֗ץ H6086 עַד H5704 until eventide עֵ֣ת H6256 הָעָ֑רֶב H6153 was down וּכְב֣וֹא H935 and as soon as the sun הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ֩ H8121 commanded צִוָּ֨ה H6680 Joshua יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ H3091 down וַיֹּרִ֧ידוּ H3381 אֶת H853 his carcase נִבְלָת֣וֹ H5038 מִן H4480 from the tree הָעֵ֗ץ H6086 and cast וַיַּשְׁלִ֤יכוּ H7993 אוֹתָהּ֙ H853 אֶל H413 it at the entering פֶּ֙תַח֙ H6607 of the gate שַׁ֣עַר H8179 of the city הָעִ֔יר H5892 and raise וַיָּקִ֤ימוּ H6965 עָלָיו֙ H5921 heap גַּל H1530 of stones אֲבָנִ֣ים H68 thereon a great גָּד֔וֹל H1419 עַ֖ד H5704 that remaineth unto this day הַיּ֥וֹם H3117 הַזֶּֽה׃ H2088 30 אָ֣ז H227 built יִבְנֶ֤ה H1129 Then Joshua יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ H3091 an altar מִזְבֵּ֔חַ H4196 unto the LORD לַֽיהוָ֖ה H3068 God אֱלֹהֵ֣י H430 of Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל H3478 in mount בְּהַ֖ר H2022 Ebal עֵיבָֽל׃ H5858 31 כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 commanded צִוָּה֩ H6680 As Moses מֹשֶׁ֔ה H4872 the servant עֶֽבֶד H5650 of the LORD לַֽיהוָ֔ה H3068 אֶת H853 the children בְּנֵ֣י H1121 of Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל H3478 as it is written כַּכָּתוּב֙ H3789 in the book בְּסֵ֙פֶר֙ H5612 of the law תּוֹרַ֣ת H8451 As Moses מֹשֶׁ֔ה H4872 an altar מִזְבַּח֙ H4196 stones אֲבָנִ֣ים H68 of whole שְׁלֵמ֔וֹת H8003 אֲשֶׁ֛ר H834 לֹֽא H3808 over which no man hath lift up הֵנִ֥יף H5130 עֲלֵיהֶ֖ן H5921 any iron בַּרְזֶ֑ל H1270 and they offered וַיַּֽעֲל֨וּ H5927 עָלָ֤יו H5921 thereon burnt offerings עֹלוֹת֙ H5930 of the LORD לַֽיהוָ֔ה H3068 and sacrificed וַֽיִּזְבְּח֖וּ H2076 peace offerings שְׁלָמִֽים׃ H8002 32 And he wrote כָּתַ֔ב H3789 שָׁ֖ם H8033 עַל H5921 there upon the stones הָֽאֲבָנִ֑ים H68 אֵ֗ת H853 a copy מִשְׁנֵה֙ H4932 of the law תּוֹרַ֣ת H8451 of Moses מֹשֶׁ֔ה H4872 אֲשֶׁ֣ר H834 And he wrote כָּתַ֔ב H3789 in
