Jehovah Witnesses Argue that Jesus Christ is Not God
These 2 passages, prove that Jesus is God. But it’s important to note that these are not found in Jehovah’s Witness (JW) Bible, they corrupted 1 Timothy 3:16 and John 1:1 because those verses prove Jesus is God. Knowing that they corrupted these verses so that they can prove that Jesus is not God.
1 Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”
When did God ever transform Himself into human flesh? That can only be Jesus Christ but Jehovah’s Witnesses Bible and modern Bibles get rid of God and transform that to ‘he’. Only the King James Version remains true to the biblical teachings and presenting Christian doctrines without contradiction.
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
This proves that Jesus is God because it talks about Jesus being the Word, and the Word is God. The Word was with God, so there’s God the Father and Jesus, notice the last part says ‘the Word was God’, so Jesus is also God.
John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
v14 shows that ‘the Word’ is referring to Jesus.
Jehovah’s Witness Bible got rid of ‘God’ and transformed it into ‘a god’ so they believe in a lesser god.
How do you argue against the teaching of Jesus being a lesser god?
Hosea 13:4 “Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.”
Notice right here that there is no other god apart from Me. There is no such thing as a lesser god.
Isaiah 44:6 “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.”
Isaiah 44:8“Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.”
When Jehovah’s Witnesses argue with us ans say that Christ Jesus is a lesser god then tell them that he’s not a JW. Because God said here at v8, if you are truly my witness, you’re going to recognize there’s no other god but me. But Jehovah’s Witnesses recognizes that there is such a thing as a lesser god.
The reason why Jehovah’s Witnesses will justify ‘a god’ as their translation is because of Greek scriptures. In Greek, if there is an article before the word god then this will prove it’s a capital G, God. For example “the” God proves that it is God but If you don’t see the article, then it’s automatically translated into ‘a god’.
This is their justification why Jesus Christ is a god, not God. However, this is debunked with John 6:45. Notice here that this is ‘God’, Jehovah’s Witnesses knows that this is referring to the Father so they wrote in ‘God’ but the problem is there’s no Greek article here. Then why did the JW Bible pick and choose this verse to be ‘God’ but in John 1:1 they deliberately changed it to ‘a god’? It goes to show their dishonesty.
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
This is talking about Jesus Christ and His nature of deity. Here, Jesus is called the mighty God.
Jehovah’s Witnesses may argue here that Jesus is the mighty god but He’s not the Almighty God.
Revelation 1:8 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:17-18“And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
v8 this person is called the Almighty and who is this? v17-18 shows that this is referring to Jesus Christ, in v18 he’s the one who lived, died, and resurrected. The Father did not do that so this is referring to Jesus Christ.
Jehovah’s Witnesses does not like Revelation 1:17-18, they say that the first and the last is not referring to Jehovah, it’s referring to the first of His creation, then we point out to them that they admit that was Jesus, then in v8 the Almighty is referring to Jesus.
Jeremiah 32:18 “Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name,”
Notice that the Father is also called the Mighty God.
In Isaiah 9:6, Jesus is the mighty God, which proves Jesus is Jehovah.
Use these verses to trap them. Always use scriptures to debunk them. They always use their own interpretation to explain something away and we can see that they don’t really go by the Bible as their final authority.
Jehovah Witnesses Argue that Jesus Christ did Not Literally Resurrect
Jehovah’s Witnesses organization does not believe that Jesus Christ literally resurrected, but they don’t tell people that. They believe that when Jesus Christ resurrected, it was only His Spirit that resurrected.
1 Corinthians 15:50 “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.”
This is their proof text that if we believe in Jesus’s body/flesh was resurrected then He can’t go to heaven because the passage says that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthains 15:51-53 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
The easy argument against this is 1 Corinthians 15:51-53, Jesus’s body and flesh was not mortal flesh, it was the incorruptible resurrected flesh.
1 Peter 3:18-19 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;”
This is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses’ stronger arguments: it was not His body that resurrected, His body was dead. It was His spirit that was made alive so this proves that only His spirit resurrected. That’s why Jehovah’s Witnesses argues that Jesus’s resurrection was only spiritual, not physical.
To debunk this, notice 1 Peter 3:18-19 is not talking about His resurrection, this part is talking about His crucifixion. Notice v18 that was the first sequence in Jesus’s stage. He died but His spirit was made alive. That’s why we believe that the quickening of the spirit is dependent upon the death of Jesus Christ. That’s why when Christians receive that blood atonement, the death of Christ for their salvation, their spirit became alive. In v19, because Jesus Christ is dead, He went to the underworld and was preaching to the lost souls in prison.
v21 talks about His resurrection and in v22, His ascension.
Mark 16:12 “After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.”
This passage is infamously used by atheists, Muslims, and Jehovah’s Witnesses that there are different bodies or forms so this does not prove that it was Jesus’s own resurrected body or life on earth. Jehovah’s Witnesses argues that Jesus had different bodies or different forms so His resurrection was only spiritual, this does not mean that His own literal body was resurrected.
The argument against this is that the people Jesus talked with seemed to notice him in a different form. Notice that the verse says ‘he appeared in another form.’
Luke 24:16 “But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.”
Look at Luke 24:16, this is the same passage about these two people who looked at Jesus on the road to Emmaus. In v16, their eyes were holden, that’s why they didn’t recognize Jesus in His own body, He appeared as a different person.
Luke 24:31 “And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.”
In Luke 24:31, their eyes were opened here and they realized that it’s Jesus.
John 20:26 “And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.“
Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that Jesus is a spirit because the spirit went through a door. Because it went through a door, it cannot be a body, it has got to be a ghost.
The answer to why this body can go through the door is simple, this is a spiritual body. It’s when the spiritual nature and fleshy nature are combined as one and it’s a body that’s immortal and incorruptible.
1 Corinthians 15:42-44 “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.”
Notice that there is a difference between a natural earthly body compared to a spiritual celestial body.
This is our proof text that Jesus’s resurrection was real.
Luke 24:39-43 “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them.”
Jesus’s body is literally flesh and bones, it’s not a spirit.
John 2:19-22 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.”
Jesus talked about ‘temple to be raised’, the Jews misunderstood it to be the Jewish temple but the verse says Jesus talked about the temple of His body. This is proof that it was His body, not a ghost, that was resurrected.
Matthew 28:9 “And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.”
The disciples were touching and holding His feet. It doesn’t make sense if Jesus was a ghost or spirit.
Jehovah Witnesses Argue that Only 144,000 Go to Heaven
Another teaching of Jehovah’s Witnesses is that only the 144,000 go to heaven, the rest of us rule over the earth.
Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”
This is Jehovah’s Witnesses’ proof text.
Matthew 5:3“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:10“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:12“Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
But look at v3, 10, 12, notice the kingdom of heaven. Yes, we are going to rule over the world but it’s both heaven and earth.
Revelation 21:1-3 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
Notice that we rule over heaven and earth, that’s the kingdom we’ll be ruling.
In the above, we have debunked the false teachings of Jehovah Witnesses. In another article, we debunk their belief that there is no eternal death, no everlasting punishment (hell), only annihilation.
