# My Life Changed When I Met Mr Glad

As shown in [Philippians 4:4-9,11-13,19](/kjv/philippians/4/4-9,11-13,19), these  verses can be used as positive references that give us joy, and are rich with the promises and blessings of God.

We are encouraged to be like the apostle Paul; who is also known as Mr. Glad in this sermon. Nonetheless, the joy that this passage is unlike the prosperity gospel preached by false teachers, who do not count sufferings and costs, as well as spiritual warfare caused by the devil.

These carnal Christians focus on toxic positivity and live a demon-deluded life. Hence, causing them to easily backslide and lose their faith in God when affliction hits them.

As Bible believers, we are to arm ourselves with the full armor of God and be prepared for warfare, but never cease to count it all joy through Christ Jesus.

> 

***[Philippians 4:4](/kjv/philippians/4/4)**  “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.”*

Mr. Glad teaches us an important lesson, which is that in the midst of his suffering and imprisonment, he never failed to give thanks to the Lord for His guidance.

That is exactly what Christians should do all the time, seeing every negative occurrence as a blessing from God, and learning to see the good in every seemingly painful situation.

We are so used to finding faults and complaining about the negative things that happen to us, but we often fail to appreciate what we actually have that others don’t.

For instance, we should be grateful for having a Bible-believing Church to attend, and to fellowship with brethren and sisters, as compared to others who do not have this privilege. Despite our tiredness and fatigue, we can always be glad if we are thankful for hymns singing and Bible study.

> 

***[Philippians 4:5](/kjv/philippians/4/5)** “Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.”*

Mr. Glad lives in moderation; he does things moderately and is not bound by worldly things that take away his joy.

As Bible believers, we should be dependent on Lord Jesus Christ, and not on secular things. This is because secularity will only provide us a temporal source of joy, but through Jesus Christ, we can maintain our joy and become more independent.

Though we still live in this world until the day of redemption, we should constantly remind ourselves to live in moderation and not get addicted to the vanity of this world.

> 

***[Philippians 4:6-7](/kjv/philippians/4/6-7)** “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”*

Mr. Glad reminds us that through prayers and supplication with thanksgiving, we can overcome fears and worries through Lord Jesus Christ.

It depends on what our heart searches. If we search for the good in God and walk according to His will, it becomes easy for us to cast our problems on Him and trust in Him to handle them. On the contrary, if we are always seeking to be in control of every situation, then we will be living in fear.

Just like verse 7 says, peace has to pass all understanding for us to truly attain it.

***[Philippians 4:8](/kjv/philippians/4/8)** “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”*

When we think of happy thoughts, we become happy; when we think of miserable thoughts, we become depressed. The Bible reminds us to constantly think of the great things that God has bestowed on us,  to help us to continue to rejoice in the Lord.

It is very easy for us to yield to sinful actions such as complaining, whining, or swift to anger when negative thoughts arise. God’s words remind us otherwise.

> 

***[1 Corinthians 10:13](/kjv/1-corinthians/10/13)** There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.*

Therefore it is important to make it a habit to not all into the temptation of sinning against God. We need to habituate ourselves and our thoughts to glorify God.

> 

***[Philippians 4:11](/kjv/philippians/4/11)** “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”*

Our situations in life are not always constant, but we can still always be content. Without contentment, we will never feel satisfied with what we are being given and always seek vanity offered by the world.

> 

***[Philippians 4:12](/kjv/philippians/4/12)** “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.”*

We should seriously learn from Mr. Glad, the apostle Paul. However good or bad the situation gets, Paul realizes that there is always something to rejoice and thank the Lord for.

To Paul, a painful day or a happy day is just the same to him, it is meant to be enjoyed. Both good and bad moments can happen concurrently as we learn to accept both as they are, rather than being selective and only wanting the best in every situation given.

> 

***[Philippians 4:13](/kjv/philippians/4/13)****“**I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”*

No matter how bad the situation is, we can always strengthen ourselves and overcome all struggles through Christ Jesus. God is a God of miracle, He always does something for a reason, which includes the struggles that He puts in our lives. That is why verse 13 ‘which strengtheneth me’ is written ‘which’, not ‘who’, because God is using these circumstances to strengthen us if we are willing to go through them and let God take control of everything.

> 

***[Philippians 4:19](/kjv/philippians/4/19)** “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”*

Mr. Glad always remains happy because he sees and cherishes God’s blessings in different forms.

It is not always easy to carry out our duties as Christians as most of the time they come with suffering.  Nonetheless in the end it is bearing the fruits of the spirit that matters.
