[ Read](/kjv/ezekiel/2)[ Commentary](/study/ezekiel/2)[ Interlinear](/interlinear/ezekiel/2) Audio

 1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.

 2 And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.

 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, *even* unto this very day.*

 4 For *they are* impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.*

 5 And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they *are* a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

 6 ¶ And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns *be* with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they *be* a rebellious house.*

 7 And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they *are* most rebellious.*

 8 But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.

 9 ¶ And when I looked, behold, an hand *was* sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book *was* therein;

 10 And he spread it before me; and it *was* written within and without: and *there was* written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.

## Commentary

 To verse 1

**He said** . See [Ezekiel 1:28](/kjv/ezekiel/1/28) , i.e. He Who was enthroned ([Eze 2:26](/kjv/-eze/2/26) ).

**Son of man** = son of Adam. Hebrew. *ben adam.* App-14 . Used of Ezekiel (exactly one hundred times) by Jehovah, always without the Article. In N.T. used by Christ (of Himself) eighty-six times in Authorized Version (eighty-three times in Revised Version, omitting [Matthew 18:11](/kjv/matthew/18/11) ; [Matthew 25:13](/kjv/matthew/25/13) .[Luke 9:56](/kjv/luke/9/56); [Luke 9:56](/kjv/luke/9/56) ). Used by others of Christ twice ([John 12:34](/kjv/john/12/34) ), making the Authorized Version total eighty-eight, and the Revised Version total eighty-five. Always with the Article in N.T. See notes on [Psalms 8:4](/kjv/psalms/8/4) , [Matthew 8:20](/kjv/matthew/8/20) , and [Revelation 14:14](/kjv/revelation/14/14) . *Without* the Article it denotes a human being, a natural descendant of Adam. In Ezekiel it is used in contrast with the celestial living creatures ([Ezekiel 1:0](/kjv/ezekiel/1/0) ). With the Article (as used of Christ) it denotes "the second Man", "the last Adam", taking the place, dispensationally, which "the first man" had forfeited, and succeeding, therefore, to the universal dominion over the earth which had been committed to Adam ([Genesis 1:26](/kjv/genesis/1/26) , [Psalms 8:4-8](/kjv/psalms/8/4-8) ). In the N. T, outside the Four Gospels, it is used only in [Acts 7:56](/kjv/acts/7/56) . [Hebrews 2:6](/kjv/hebrews/2/6) . [Revelation 1:13](/kjv/revelation/1/13) ; [Revelation 14:14](/kjv/revelation/14/14) . And, be side Ezekiel, it is used in OT. only of Daniel ([Daniel 8:17](/kjv/daniel/8/17) ) stand, &c. Compare [Daniel 10:11](/kjv/daniel/10/11) .[Revelation 1:17](/kjv/revelation/1/17) . Reminding us that he was not a false prophet, or self-called and sent. Such spoke "out of their own heart" ([Ezekiel 13:2](/kjv/ezekiel/13/2) , [Ezekiel 13:3](/kjv/ezekiel/13/3) ). Compare [Jeremiah 23:16](/kjv/jeremiah/23/16) .
