Selah. 4 *There is* a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy *place* of the tabernacles of the most High. 5 God *is* in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, *and that* right early.* 6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. 7 The LORD of hosts *is* with us; the God of Jacob *is* our refuge. Selah.* 8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. 9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. 10 Be still, and know that I *am* God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The LORD of hosts *is* with us; the God of Jacob *is* our refuge. Selah. [Psalms 45](/study/psalms/45) [Psalms 47](/study/psalms/47) ## Commentary To verse 1 **Title. A Song.** Hebrew. *shir* . One of the "Songs" referred to in [Isaiah 38:20](/kjv/isaiah/38/20) (though not the same word). See App-65 . Doubtless Hezekiah's during Sennacherib's siege. No other period of Israel's history suits it. Not celebrating a victorious campaign, but a successful defense. See notes below.[Psa 46:47](/kjv/-psa/46/47) ,[Psa 46:48](/kjv/-psa/46/48) a Trilogy referring to the same event. See note on "Selah", [Psalms 46:11](/kjv/psalms/46/11) . **our refuge.** Figure of speech *Cycloides* ( App-6 ), because repeated in [Psalms 46:7](/kjv/psalms/46/7) and [Psalms 46:11](/kjv/psalms/46/11) . See Structure above. **refuge:** to which one flees. Hebrew. *hasah.* App-69 . Not the same word as verses: [Psalms 46:7](/kjv/psalms/46/7) , [Psalms 46:11](/kjv/psalms/46/11) . **very present** = found (near); masculine refers to God (help is feminine) ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com","name":"Real Bible Believers","description":"RBB","publisher":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/search?q={search_term_string}","query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46#primaryimage","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","width":672,"height":448,"caption":"Real Bible Believers"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46#webpage","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46","name":"Psalms 46 - Study King James Bible with bullingers companion bible notes","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46#primaryimage"},"author":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"description":"Read Psalms 46 with bullingers companion bible notes commentary. 1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be c","breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46"]}]},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46#breadcrumb","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/","name":"Home"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study","name":"Study Bible"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":3,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes","name":"bullingers companion bible notes"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":4,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms","name":"Psalms"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":5,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/46","name":"46"}}]},{"@type":["Person","Organization"],"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509","image":{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#personlogo","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/android-chrome-512x512.png","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/android-chrome-512x512.png","width":512,"height":512},"logo":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#personlogo"},"sameAs":["https://twitter.com/RBiblebeliever","https://www.facebook.com/RBibleBelievers"]}]} ```
