Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: *there is* none that doeth good.* 2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were *any* that did understand, that did seek God. 3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; *there is* none that doeth good, no, not one. 4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people *as* they eat bread: they have not called upon God. 5 There were they in great fear, *where* no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth *against* thee: thou hast put *them* to shame, because God hath despised them.* 6 Oh that the salvation of Israel *were come* out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, *and* Israel shall be glad.* [Psalms 52](/study/psalms/52) [Psalms 54](/study/psalms/54) ## Commentary To verse 1 **Title. Maschil** = Instruction (the sixth of thirteen Psalms so named. See note on Title, [Psalms 32:0](/kjv/psalms/32/0) , and App-65 , as to the faction of the Tyrant of [Psalms 52:0](/kjv/psalms/52/0) . This Psalm for public use. See note at end. Hence Elohim ( App-4 ), the Creator in relation to His creatures. A partial repetition of [Psalms 14:0](/kjv/psalms/14/0) , which was not for public use (as [Psalms 53:0](/kjv/psalms/53/0) was); therefore Jehovah (David's God) there, and Elohim (the creature's Creator) here. **fool.** May not this refer to Nabal? **God.** Hebrew. *Elohim.* App-4 . I. Seven times in this Psalm. In [Psalms 14:0](/kjv/psalms/14/0) three times Elohim, and four timesJehovah. Elohim more characteristic of the second (or Exodus) book. **iniquity.** In [Psalms 14:0](/kjv/psalms/14/0) , Hebrew *'alilah* = doing; here, *'aval* = deceit. App-44 . There is none, &c. Quoted in [Romans 3:1-12](/kjv/romans/3/1-12) . ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com","name":"Real Bible Believers","description":"RBB","publisher":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/search?q={search_term_string}","query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/53#primaryimage","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","width":672,"height":448,"caption":"Real Bible Believers"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/53#webpage","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/53","name":"Psalms 53 - Study King James Bible with bullingers companion bible notes","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/53#primaryimage"},"author":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"description":"Read Psalms 53 with bullingers companion bible notes commentary. 1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
