Selah. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.* 4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid *them* out of the hand of the wicked. 5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.* 6 I have said, Ye *are* gods; and all of you *are* children of the most High. 7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. [Psalms 81](/study/psalms/81) [Psalms 83](/study/psalms/83) ## Commentary To verse 1 **Title. A Psalm.** Hebrew. *mizm6r.* App-65 . **of Asaph.** The eleventh of the twelve Asaph Psalms. **God.** Hebrew. *Elohim.* App-4 . **standeth:** i.e. officially. **the congregation of the mighty** = GOD'S (Hebrew El. App-4 . IV) assembly (in its civil aspect). **gods.** Elohim: used of earthly judges as representing Him. Compare [Exodus 21:6](/kjv/exodus/21/6) ; [Exodus 22:8](/kjv/exodus/22/8) , [Exodus 22:9](/kjv/exodus/22/9) , [Exodus 22:28](/kjv/exodus/22/28) (quoted in [Acts 23:5](/kjv/acts/23/5) ). Hence, Moses is so spoken of ([Exodus 7:1](/kjv/exodus/7/1) ). (It is used also of idols as representing even a false god.) See [John 10:34](/kjv/john/10/34) , [John 10:35](/kjv/john/10/35) . ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com","name":"Real Bible Believers","description":"RBB","publisher":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/search?q={search_term_string}","query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/82#primaryimage","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","width":672,"height":448,"caption":"Real Bible Believers"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/82#webpage","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/82","name":"Psalms 82 - Study King James Bible with bullingers companion bible notes","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/bullingers-companion-bible-notes/psalms/82#primaryimage"},"author":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"description":"Read Psalms 82 with bullingers companion bible notes commentary. 1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. 2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?
