He means the Son of God in his eternal nature. [John 1:1](/kjv/john/1/1) . **Which we have heard** ; when made flesh and dwelling among us. [John 1:14](/kjv/john/1/14) . **Our hands have handled** ; **[Luke 24:39](/kjv/luke/24/39)** ; **[John 20:27](/kjv/john/20/27)** . **The Word of life** ; the Word is here used, as in [John 1:1](/kjv/john/1/1) ; [John 1:14](/kjv/john/1/14) , for Christ’s divine and eternal person; and he is called "the Word of life," because he has life in himself, and is the author of life natural and spiritual.
