This *is* the law for her that hath born a male or a female. 8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.* [Leviticus 11](/study/leviticus/11) [Leviticus 13](/study/leviticus/13) ## Commentary To verse 1 **XII.** (1) **And the Lord spake unto Moses.**—As the reason why God graciously addressed the regulation about the clean and unclean animals to Moses and Aaron conjointly (see [Leviticus 11:1](/kjv/leviticus/11/1)), no longer operates here, the Lord now addresses the laws of purification to the Lawgiver alone. The laws of defilement contracted from without by eating or coming in contact with unclean objects are naturally followed by precepts about defilement arising from within the human body itself.
