Selah. 6 They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. 7 Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords *are* in their lips: for who, *say they*, doth hear? 8 But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision. 9 *Because of* his strength will I wait upon thee: for God *is* my defence.* 10 The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see *my desire* upon mine enemies.* 11 Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield. 12 *For* the sin of their mouth *and* the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying *which* they speak. 13 Consume *them* in wrath, consume *them*, that they *may* not *be:* and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah. 14 And at evening let them return; *and* let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. 15 Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.** 16 But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. 17 Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God *is* my defence, *and* the God of my mercy. [Psalms 58](/study/psalms/58) [Psalms 60](/study/psalms/60) ## Commentary To verse 1 **Michtam:** The seven poems of the celebrated Arabian poets who flourished before the time of Mohammed, called Moallakat, from being suspended on the walls of the temple of Mecca, were also called Modhabat, "golden," because they were written in letters of gold on the papyrus; and probably this is another reason why the six poems of David were called golden. **when:** [Judges 16:2](/kjv/judges/16/2), [Judges 16:3](/kjv/judges/16/3), [1 Samuel 19:11-24](/kjv/1-samuel/19/11-24), [2 Corinthians 11:32](/kjv/2-corinthians/11/32), [2 Corinthians 11:33](/kjv/2-corinthians/11/33) **Deliver:** [Psalms 7:1](/kjv/psalms/7/1), [Psalms 7:2](/kjv/psalms/7/2), [Psalms 18:48](/kjv/psalms/18/48), [Psalms 71:4](/kjv/psalms/71/4), [Psalms 143:12](/kjv/psalms/143/12), [Luke 1:74](/kjv/luke/1/74), [Luke 1:75](/kjv/luke/1/75), [2 Timothy 4:17](/kjv/2-timothy/4/17), [2 Timothy 4:18](/kjv/2-timothy/4/18) **defend me:** Heb. set me on high, [Psalms 12:5](/kjv/psalms/12/5), [Psalms 91:14](/kjv/psalms/91/14), [Isaiah 33:16](/kjv/isaiah/33/16) **Reciprocal:** [Genesis 32:11](/kjv/genesis/32/11) - Deliver [2 Samuel 22:17](/kjv/2-samuel/22/17) - he drew [Psalms 38:19](/kjv/psalms/38/19) - But [Psalms 56:1](/kjv/psalms/56/1) - Michtam [Psalms 60:1](/kjv/psalms/60/1) - Michtam [Psalms 140:1](/kjv/psalms/140/1) - Deliver ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com","name":"Real Bible Believers","description":"RBB","publisher":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/search?q={search_term_string}","query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59#primaryimage","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","width":672,"height":448,"caption":"Real Bible Believers"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59#webpage","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59","name":"Psalms 59 - Study King James Bible with treasury of scripture knowledge","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59#primaryimage"},"author":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"description":"Read Psalms 59 with treasury of scripture knowledge commentary. 1 Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. 2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody","breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59"]}]},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59#breadcrumb","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/","name":"Home"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study","name":"Study Bible"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":3,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge","name":"treasury of scripture knowledge"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":4,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms","name":"Psalms"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":5,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/59","name":"59"}}]},{"@type":["Person","Organization"],"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509","image":{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#personlogo","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/android-chrome-512x512.png","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/android-chrome-512x512.png","width":512,"height":512},"logo":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#personlogo"},"sameAs":["https://twitter.com/RBiblebeliever","https://www.facebook.com/RBibleBelievers"]}]} ```
