*why* doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?* 2 Remember thy congregation, *which* thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, *which* thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.* 3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; *even* all *that* the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary. 4 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns *for* signs. 5 *A man* was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees. 6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers. 7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled *by casting down* the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.* 8 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.* 9 We see not our signs: *there is* no more any prophet: neither *is there* among us any that knoweth how long. 10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? 11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck *it* out of thy bosom. 12 For God *is* my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. 13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.** 14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, *and* gavest him *to be* meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. 15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.* 16 The day *is* thine, the night also *is* thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun. 17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.* 18 Remember this, *that* the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and *that* the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. 19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude *of the wicked:* forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever. 20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty. 21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name. 22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. 23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.* [Psalms 73](/study/psalms/73) [Psalms 75](/study/psalms/75) ## Commentary To verse 1 **O God:** [Psalms 10:1](/kjv/psalms/10/1), [Psalms 42:9](/kjv/psalms/42/9), [Psalms 42:11](/kjv/psalms/42/11), [Psalms 44:9](/kjv/psalms/44/9), [Psalms 60:1](/kjv/psalms/60/1), [Psalms 60:10](/kjv/psalms/60/10), [Psalms 77:7](/kjv/psalms/77/7), [Jeremiah 31:37](/kjv/jeremiah/31/37), [Jeremiah 33:24-26](/kjv/jeremiah/33/24-26), [Romans 11:1](/kjv/romans/11/1), [Romans 11:2](/kjv/romans/11/2) **smoke:** [Psalms 79:5](/kjv/psalms/79/5), [Deuteronomy 29:20](/kjv/deuteronomy/29/20) **the sheep:** [Psalms 79:13](/kjv/psalms/79/13), [Psalms 95:7](/kjv/psalms/95/7), [Psalms 100:3](/kjv/psalms/100/3), [Jeremiah 23:1](/kjv/jeremiah/23/1), [Ezekiel 34:8](/kjv/ezekiel/34/8), [Ezekiel 34:31](/kjv/ezekiel/34/31), [Luke 12:32](/kjv/luke/12/32), [John 10:26-30](/kjv/john/10/26-30) **Reciprocal:** [Exodus 32:11](/kjv/exodus/32/11) - why doth [Deuteronomy 9:26](/kjv/deuteronomy/9/26) - which thou hast redeemed [Judges 10:7](/kjv/judges/10/7) - was hot [Judges 21:3](/kjv/judges/21/3) - why is [1 Samuel 4:3](/kjv/1-samuel/4/3) - Wherefore [2 Samuel 22:16](/kjv/2-samuel/22/16) - nostrils [2 Samuel 24:17](/kjv/2-samuel/24/17) - these sheep [1 Chronicles 6:39](/kjv/1-chronicles/6/39) - Asaph [1 Chronicles 25:2](/kjv/1-chronicles/25/2) - Asaph [2 Chronicles 36:16](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/16) - the wrath [Esther 1:12](/kjv/esther/1/12) - burned [Psalms 13:1](/kjv/psalms/13/1) - How [Psalms 18:8](/kjv/psalms/18/8) - went [Psalms 44:23](/kjv/psalms/44/23) - cast [Psalms 68:10](/kjv/psalms/68/10) - Thy congregation [Psalms 80:4](/kjv/psalms/80/4) - be angry [Psalms 85:5](/kjv/psalms/85/5) - angry [Psalms 106:40](/kjv/psalms/106/40) - his own [Isaiah 5:5](/kjv/isaiah/5/5) - I will take [Isaiah 63:17](/kjv/isaiah/63/17) - Return [Isaiah 64:9](/kjv/isaiah/64/9) - wroth [Jeremiah 14:22](/kjv/jeremiah/14/22) - vanities [Lamentations 5:20](/kjv/lamentations/5/20) - dost ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com","name":"Real Bible Believers","description":"RBB","publisher":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/search?q={search_term_string}","query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/74#primaryimage","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","width":672,"height":448,"caption":"Real Bible Believers"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/74#webpage","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/74","name":"Psalms 74 - Study King James Bible with treasury of scripture knowledge","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/74#primaryimage"},"author":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"description":"Read Psalms 74 with treasury of scripture knowledge commentary. 1 O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever?
