Selah. 4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: 5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak *not with* a stiff neck. 6 For promotion *cometh* neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.* 7 But God *is* the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. 8 For in the hand of the LORD *there is* a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring *them* out, *and* drink *them*. 9 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. 10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; *but* the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. [Psalms 74](/study/psalms/74) [Psalms 76](/study/psalms/76) ## Commentary To verse 1 **A Psalm:** Some consider this Psalm to have been written by David on his accession to the throne over all Israel; others refer it to the time of the captivity, considering it as a continuation of the subject in the preceding; but Bp. Patrick and others are of opinion that it was composed by Asaph to commemorate the overthrow of Sennacherib's army, [2 Kings 19:1](/kjv/2-kings/19/1). **of Asaph:** or, for Asaph **for that:** [Psalms 76:1](/kjv/psalms/76/1), [Psalms 138:2](/kjv/psalms/138/2), [Exodus 23:21](/kjv/exodus/23/21), [Exodus 34:6](/kjv/exodus/34/6), [Exodus 34:7](/kjv/exodus/34/7), [Jeremiah 10:6](/kjv/jeremiah/10/6) **wondrous:** [Deuteronomy 4:7](/kjv/deuteronomy/4/7), [Deuteronomy 4:33](/kjv/deuteronomy/4/33), [Deuteronomy 4:34](/kjv/deuteronomy/4/34) **Reciprocal:** [1 Chronicles 6:39](/kjv/1-chronicles/6/39) - Asaph [1 Chronicles 25:2](/kjv/1-chronicles/25/2) - Asaph [Psalms 34:18](/kjv/psalms/34/18) - is nigh [Psalms 101:2](/kjv/psalms/101/2) - behave [Psalms 119:151](/kjv/psalms/119/151) - near [Isaiah 55:6](/kjv/isaiah/55/6) - while he is near [Ephesians 2:17](/kjv/ephesians/2/17) - that ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com","name":"Real Bible Believers","description":"RBB","publisher":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/search?q={search_term_string}","query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75#primaryimage","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","width":672,"height":448,"caption":"Real Bible Believers"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75#webpage","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75","name":"Psalms 75 - Study King James Bible with treasury of scripture knowledge","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75#primaryimage"},"author":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"description":"Read Psalms 75 with treasury of scripture knowledge commentary. 1 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. 2 When I shall receive the congr","breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75"]}]},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75#breadcrumb","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/","name":"Home"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study","name":"Study Bible"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":3,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge","name":"treasury of scripture knowledge"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":4,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms","name":"Psalms"}},{"@type":"ListItem","position":5,"item":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/75","name":"75"}}]},{"@type":["Person","Organization"],"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509","image":{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#personlogo","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/android-chrome-512x512.png","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/android-chrome-512x512.png","width":512,"height":512},"logo":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#personlogo"},"sameAs":["https://twitter.com/RBiblebeliever","https://www.facebook.com/RBibleBelievers"]}]} ```
