thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.* 2 The dead bodies of thy servants have they given *to be* meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth. 3 Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and *there was* none to bury *them*. 4 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us. 5 How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire? 6 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name. 7 For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place. 8 O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.* 9 Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake. 10 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where *is* their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight *by* the revenging of the blood of thy servants *which is* shed.* 11 Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;** 12 And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord. 13 So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.* [Psalms 78](/study/psalms/78) [Psalms 80](/study/psalms/80) ## Commentary To verse 1 **of Asaph:** or, for Asaph, [Psalms 74:1](/kjv/psalms/74/1), *title, marg: **the heathen:** [Psalms 74:3](/kjv/psalms/74/3), [Psalms 74:4](/kjv/psalms/74/4), [Psalms 80:12](/kjv/psalms/80/12), [Psalms 80:13](/kjv/psalms/80/13), [2 Kings 21:12-16](/kjv/2-kings/21/12-16), [2 Kings 25:4-10](/kjv/2-kings/25/4-10), [2 Chronicles 36:3](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/3), [2 Chronicles 36:4](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/4), [2 Chronicles 36:6](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/6), [2 Chronicles 36:7](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/7), [2 Chronicles 36:17](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/17), [Luke 21:24](/kjv/luke/21/24), [Revelation 11:2](/kjv/revelation/11/2) **into:** [Psalms 74:2](/kjv/psalms/74/2), [Psalms 78:71](/kjv/psalms/78/71), [Exodus 15:17](/kjv/exodus/15/17), [Isaiah 47:6](/kjv/isaiah/47/6) **holy:** [Psalms 74:7](/kjv/psalms/74/7), [Psalms 74:8](/kjv/psalms/74/8), [2 Kings 24:13](/kjv/2-kings/24/13), [Lamentations 1:10](/kjv/lamentations/1/10), [Ezekiel 7:20](/kjv/ezekiel/7/20), [Ezekiel 7:21](/kjv/ezekiel/7/21), [Ezekiel 9:7](/kjv/ezekiel/9/7) **have laid:** [2 Kings 25:9](/kjv/2-kings/25/9), [2 Kings 25:10](/kjv/2-kings/25/10), [2 Chronicles 36:19](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/19), [Jeremiah 26:18](/kjv/jeremiah/26/18), [Jeremiah 39:8](/kjv/jeremiah/39/8), [Jeremiah 52:13](/kjv/jeremiah/52/13), [Micah 3:12](/kjv/micah/3/12) **Reciprocal:** [Deuteronomy 28:26](/kjv/deuteronomy/28/26) - *General* [1 Samuel 4:13](/kjv/1-samuel/4/13) - his heart [1 Chronicles 6:39](/kjv/1-chronicles/6/39) - Asaph [1 Chronicles 25:2](/kjv/1-chronicles/25/2) - Asaph [2 Chronicles 35:15](/kjv/2-chronicles/35/15) - according [2 Chronicles 36:16](/kjv/2-chronicles/36/16) - the wrath [Psalms 31:2](/kjv/psalms/31/2) - deliver [Psalms 102:14](/kjv/psalms/102/14) - *General* [Psalms 137:3](/kjv/psalms/137/3) - wasted us [Isaiah 64:10](/kjv/isaiah/64/10) - *General* [Jeremiah 9:11](/kjv/jeremiah/9/11) - Jerusalem [Jeremiah 19:13](/kjv/jeremiah/19/13) - defiled [Jeremiah 50:11](/kjv/jeremiah/50/11) - ye destroyers [Jeremiah 51:51](/kjv/jeremiah/51/51) - for strangers [Lamentations 5:2](/kjv/lamentations/5/2) - *General* [Ezekiel 5:14](/kjv/ezekiel/5/14) - I will [Ezekiel 24:21](/kjv/ezekiel/24/21) - I will [Daniel 9:2](/kjv/daniel/9/2) - the desolations [1 Corinthians 3:17](/kjv/1-corinthians/3/17) - any ```json {"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com","name":"Real Bible Believers","description":"RBB","publisher":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/search?q={search_term_string}","query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"ImageObject","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/79#primaryimage","inLanguage":"en-US","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","contentUrl":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/_app/immutable/assets/missing.C7wGMEZ6.jpg","width":672,"height":448,"caption":"Real Bible Believers"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/79#webpage","url":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/79","name":"Psalms 79 - Study King James Bible with treasury of scripture knowledge","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/study/treasury-of-scripture-knowledge/psalms/79#primaryimage"},"author":{"@id":"https://realbiblebelievers.com/#/schema/person/e966585dde703268e7f6ae890ea98509"},"description":"Read Psalms 79 with treasury of scripture knowledge commentary. 1 O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance;
