I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them? 4 My beloved put in his hand by the hole *of the door*, and my bowels were moved for him.* 5 I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped *with* myrrh, and my fingers *with* sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock.* 6 I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, *and* was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. 7 The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me. 8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I *am* sick of love.* 9 ¶ What *is* thy beloved more than *another* beloved, O thou fairest among women? what *is* thy beloved more than *another* beloved, that thou dost so charge us? 10 My beloved *is* white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.* 11 His head *is as* the most fine gold, his locks *are* bushy, *and* black as a raven.* 12 His eyes *are* as *the eyes* of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, *and* fitly set.* 13 His cheeks *are* as a bed of spices, *as* sweet flowers: his lips *like* lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh.* 14 His hands *are as* gold rings set with the beryl: his belly *is as* bright ivory overlaid *with* sapphires. 15 His legs *are as* pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance *is* as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars. 16 His mouth *is* most sweet: yea, he *is* altogether lovely. This *is* my beloved, and this *is* my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.* [Song of Solomon 4](/study/song-of-solomon/4) [Song of Solomon 6](/study/song-of-solomon/6) ## Commentary To verse 1 **come:** [Song of Solomon 4:16](/kjv/song-of-solomon/4/16), [Song of Solomon 6:2](/kjv/song-of-solomon/6/2), [Song of Solomon 6:11](/kjv/song-of-solomon/6/11), [Song of Solomon 8:13](/kjv/song-of-solomon/8/13), [Isaiah 5:1](/kjv/isaiah/5/1), [Isaiah 51:3](/kjv/isaiah/51/3), [Isaiah 58:11](/kjv/isaiah/58/11), [Isaiah 61:11](/kjv/isaiah/61/11), [John 14:21-23](/kjv/john/14/21-23) **my sister:** [Song of Solomon 4:9-12](/kjv/song-of-solomon/4/9-12), [Song of Solomon 8:1](/kjv/song-of-solomon/8/1), [Hebrews 2:12-14](/kjv/hebrews/2/12-14) **I have gathered:** [Song of Solomon 4:13](/kjv/song-of-solomon/4/13), [Song of Solomon 4:14](/kjv/song-of-solomon/4/14), [Psalms 147:11](/kjv/psalms/147/11), [Isaiah 53:11](/kjv/isaiah/53/11) **eat:** [Deuteronomy 16:13-17](/kjv/deuteronomy/16/13-17), [Deuteronomy 26:10-14](/kjv/deuteronomy/26/10-14), [2 Chronicles 31:6-10](/kjv/2-chronicles/31/6-10), [Psalms 16:3](/kjv/psalms/16/3), [Isaiah 23:18](/kjv/isaiah/23/18), [Isaiah 55:1](/kjv/isaiah/55/1), [Isaiah 55:2](/kjv/isaiah/55/2), [Isaiah 62:8](/kjv/isaiah/62/8), [Isaiah 62:9](/kjv/isaiah/62/9), [Isaiah 65:13](/kjv/isaiah/65/13), [Isaiah 66:14](/kjv/isaiah/66/14), [Matthew 25:40](/kjv/matthew/25/40), [Acts 11:29](/kjv/acts/11/29), [2 Corinthians 9:11-15](/kjv/2-corinthians/9/11-15), [Ephesians 5:18](/kjv/ephesians/5/18), [1 Thessalonians 3:8](/kjv/1-thessalonians/3/8), [1 Thessalonians 3:9](/kjv/1-thessalonians/3/9) **friends:** [Luke 12:4](/kjv/luke/12/4), [Luke 15:6](/kjv/luke/15/6), [Luke 15:7](/kjv/luke/15/7), [Luke 15:9](/kjv/luke/15/9), [Luke 15:10](/kjv/luke/15/10), [John 3:29](/kjv/john/3/29), [John 15:14](/kjv/john/15/14), [John 15:15](/kjv/john/15/15) **yea, drink abundantly, O beloved:** or, and be drunken with loves, [Zechariah 9:15-17](/kjv/zechariah/9/15-17), [Revelation 22:17](/kjv/revelation/22/17) **Reciprocal:** [Genesis 43:11](/kjv/genesis/43/11) -
