The Bible forces victims to marry rapists?
Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (NIV) says, “If a man happens to meet a virgin, who is not pledged to be married, and RAPES her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.”
The NKJV, the ESV, the NASB and other modern Bibles say “if a man… SEIZES her and lies with her” rather than raping her.
This doesn’t make it better as it allows criminals to kidnap women and have sex.
The KJV says, “If a man LAY HOLD on HER and THEY be FOUND,” the KJV shows consent since BOTH are caught together in the act.
Also, the Bible shows this to be normal since the man is just holding a woman.
Like Proverbs 3:18 says, “she is a tree of life to them that LAY HOLD upon her: and happy is everyone that retaineth her.”
It doesn’t show something abnormal or forced.
