Genesis 2:17-25: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”
The Bible talks about the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and from previous study, we believe it could be a vine tree. The fruit that Adam and Eve ate was grapes. People might say that grapes do not grow on trees, but we see a word called vine tree in the Bible. So it could be possible that it is a vine growing around a tree.
God warned them that if they eat of the tree, they will die. Why would there be death accompanied by this tree? In the previous study, we saw that it was connected to Satan somehow. It is connected to him without us knowing the details exactly, but the Bible attributes the tree of knowledge of good and evil to Satan. Keeping in mind the connection between Satan and the tree, notice what the devil is called in Ezekiel 31. A certain type of tree at the garden of Eden. Now, keeping in mind the possibility of the vine wrapping around some tree, it could be a cedar tree if this is the case.
Ezekiel 31:8: “The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.”
Look at verse 3, the Bible calls him the Assyrian.
Ezekiel 31:3: “Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.”
Notice here that this is the cedar tree at the garden of Eden, but then the fruit is grapes. The solution is simple. Usually, when you see contradictions in the Bible, it shows you a greater and more interesting revelation.
If you look at the wording here, the tree is reaching all the way to the top. The Bible mentions one king likened to that, Nebuchadnezzar, where it reached the heavens. Look at Nebuchadnezzar’s dream that he was likened to this tall tree that reached all the way up to heaven. His kingdom was spreading throughout all the earth.
Who is the one that gave Nebuchadnezzar charge over the kingdom to spread throughout the earth? It is the Devil. He had the power and authority to give it to whomsoever he will (Matthew 4). Look at the wording here.
Daniel 4:11: “The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:”
The tree that Nebuchadnezzar was likened to a tree whose height reached the heaven. Some of the wording here is like Ezekiel 31 about being a tall tree. All this is just a theory. This is in Babylon, his dream. If Babylon is a kingdom that revived from the ancient ruins where it originated from Babel. In Babel, they built a tower that would reach all the way up to the heaven. What were they trying to accomplish? Why was the Devil behind it? Why did God stop it? Satan is likened to a tree whose height grows very tall. What does Satan say? He had the same mentality as the people who built the tower of Babel. What did he say at Isaiah 14?
Isaiah 14:14: “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
If we look at mankind today, how they’re always trying to reach and go up, there is something demonic and strange behind the activity. There are many scientists with good intentions. They want to benefit humanity, but that was the same thing with the people at the tower of Babel. They are trying to reach up to heaven because they think it’s for humanity’s sake. They have no idea, that they are just puppets controlled by the wicked one.
It is not good for man to be alone
Genesis 2:18: “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
The Lord God is speaking and saying it is not good for men to be alone. People need to understand that the Lord does not like it when mankind is alone. When you’re a Bible Believing Christian, it is easy to be alone, the world hates you and separates from you. You’re the only one standing up for Jesus, and it is difficult serving God. If you have any opportunity to not be alone, you should take that advantage. Sometimes God gives a special calling where you do suffer loneliness.
Hebrews 10:25: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Look at the wording in Genesis 2:18”… I will make him an help meet for him.” God wants to give him a help meet, in other words, a person that will meet his needs and be a helper to him.
Who fulfills that role? Nowadays woman despise that role. Now, you must realize this, women, that the Lord could have picked a lot of other creations rather than you. But He gave you to fulfill that role.
When God gives you a special purpose and calling, don’t you dare belittle it and call it as abusive. When you belittle God’s role to you, then the Lord gives you free choice to fully reject that, and He will find others to fulfill that role. Look what would have filled in that role, the Lord did not use the woman to begin with. He was trying to find something to help the man to meet his needs.
The idea is that basically, man should not be alone. That’s the bottom line. That is why we should meet in fellowship; we should have church. The verse was about finding a creation to take care of the man. It just happened that the woman fulfilled that role. This verse is used often for men and women when they marry.
Out of the ground, the Lord formed animals
Genesis 2:19: “And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”
He formed and shaped the beasts of the field and birds from the ground. If it came from the ground, this ground could contain gold. If that is the case, these animals may have had a glow and a shine to them too. The Bible mentions heaven’s streets and buildings being made with gold.
He creates every animal to help the man through his loneliness. God brought these animals to Adam after they were formed to see what he would call them. Notice God did not give the name to the animals. Mankind gave names to the animals.
Adam, with a super mind
Genesis 2:20: “And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.”
Despite all these animals the Lord created that Adam named, Adam could not find a proper suitable role out of God’s creation. None of these creatures could be a help meet.
The Bible talks about man created on the sixth day and suddenly, it mentions man and woman. If all of this happened within the sixth day and Eve was not yet made when Adam named all the animals, you must realize Adam was like a supercomputer. That is a powerful mind God blessed Adam before his fallen state. Imagine how powerful our minds will be when we are delivered from our fallen state.
Looking at verses 19 and 20, we see that the Bible is way ahead. It talks about the human nature when they tend to have pets for loneliness. But nothing compares when the Lord supplies you with a significant other.
The scientific discoveries from Genesis 2
Genesis 2:21: “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;”
God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam. When He took out one of his ribs, the Bible says He closed up the body. This is fascinating. You notice here that Genesis 1 and 2 are filled with some many scientific statements.
If mankind followed and abided by the first two chapters, they would have a healthy physical life and good mental well-being. The Lord talked about loneliness and predicted the animal and plant system. We have seen all of that, but another amazing thing here is from verses 21-22. If people abided by verses 21 and 22, it could have saved many people from pain during surgery. Notice that Lord was doing surgery here.
Which rib is it the Lord removed from Adam to make the woman?
We believe that it is the fifth rib.
Genesis 2:22: “And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.”
The Lord took the rib and made a woman and brought the woman to Adam. How do we know it is the fifth rib? When we look at the relationship of a woman and a man throughout scripture, we can guess which part of the body from the man. The only mention you can find in the Bible concerning about the rib, a specific rib is the fifth rib. There is no other number the Lord gives it. When the Bible talks about the fifth rib, it is always associated with death.
2 Samuel 2:23: “Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.”
Now, remember because of Adam, we all die. But also remember who the person that caused Adam to die was. It is a woman. Considering that the fifth rib is associated with death, we see it connected to Eve. The Devil tempted Eve first for death to reign throughout all of Adam. He had to use Eve to accomplish his means of death.
2 Samuel 20:10: “But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab’s hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.”
To be sure a person is dead, you must smite him at the fifth rib. Which person in the Bible had a spear thrust to his side to make sure He was truly dead? That was our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 19:33: “But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:”
See the wording there shows that they wanted to make sure that Jesus was dead. This was done to fulfill the scripture that Jesus’ bone will not be broken. In other words, if you do something with the fifth rib or in that location, the bones should be held intact.
John 19:36: “For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.”
Now that is why the Lord chose the fifth rib from Adam. So his bones can be held intact.
Genesis 2:23: “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
The similarities between Jesus and Church and Adam and Eve
Look at the similarity between Jesus and the church with Adam and Eve.
Ephesians 5:30: “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.”
Notice how similar the wording is with Adam and Eve.
Ephesians 5:31: “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.”
Where did Paul get that verse from? He got it from Genesis chapter 2 about Adam and Eve.
Genesis 2:24: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Now, look at Ephesians 5, knowing that it is parallel with Adam and Eve.
Ephesians 5:32: “This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”
We see that he likens the relationship of husband and wife to Christ and the church.
Ephesians 5:25: “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”
Another thing is the location itself of being smitten at the fifth rib. The location of this fifth rib is near the heart. They say that when Jesus died on the cross, He died of a broken heart for you. If you look at the word death, it is quite often associated with love. If you look at the theme of movies, it is always love and death. In other words, Satan distorted it to sex and violence. If you look at Adam and Eve’s case, Adam died out of love for Eve. Adam chose to die. He was fully aware of what he was doing. He was not deceived. He loved his wife Eve and chose to die along with her.
1 Timothy 2:13-14: “For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.”
Notice that Adam was not deceived. Why did he choose to do that? It was because he loved his wife, Eve.
Seeing all these cases together, we can see it was from the fifth rib.
Looking at verse 23, it says she shall be called woman. That is something you should be thankful to the Lord. Why are you called woman?
Notice the wording on why your name exists. It is because of the man; she was taken from the man. Female because it is from the male. This becomes very politically incorrect which is why we are getting the feminist movement. Notice that in marriages, it is normal for the woman to take the man’s last name. The woman’s title exists from the man and that is what the liberal movement hates. They hate it because they want women to be independent and to be their own person.
People are more careful with their words in offending somebody concerning racism, discrimination but they are not more careful with their words about offending God by taking His name in vain. Do you know how much offended God is by taking His name in vain? That is worse than 10 n-words combined.
Looking at verse 24, “therefore shall a man leave his father and mother.” So, due to the woman is taken out of the man, what’s the result? Mankind can now leave their father and mother and don’t have to be dependent on them anymore. Why? Shall cleave unto his wife, the scripture says. Since, you are not clinging to your parents, you’re now cleaving so much that you become one with your wife.
How a marriage forms
Some people might ask how marriage is started and defined in the Bible. Verse 24 is the verse. That is where you’re considered husband and wife. It is when you become one flesh. Basically, through a sexual encounter, God automatically sees that as a marriage. It is normal today that most people have done fornication with several people. We live in a day and age where people fornicate with each other before marriage. Fornication is not supposed to be something filthy. You know who made it filthy? The world. It is supposed to be sacred and holy.
Hebrews 13:4: “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”
The idea is that when two bodies join together, it is considered marriage. Therefore, it is important that when you do marriage, you do it in Biblical terms. Some people take this as an excuse not to do marriage legally. Even though the legal rules were not set in place during Adam and Eve’s time, you must realize God wants us to follow the government’s rules. He wants us to do things legally unless it makes us violate and sin. By that point, we must rather obey God than man.
Notice in verse 25, they were not ashamed of being naked. It is because they were at the stage of innocence. They ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which gave them knowledge. Before they ate, they were still innocent. Little children and babies have that mindset. The more you know, the more you are held accountable.
