Egypt = [yet] Egypt. Compare Hosea 7:16 .
shall gather them up = shall rake them out [for manure, or for burning]; not for burial in their own land; this would be 'asaph. But here it is kabaz. (Jeremiah 8:2 .Ezekiel 29:5 .)
Memphis. The capital of Lower Egypt (near Cairo). Now Mitrahumy ; also called Noph.
tabernacles = tents. Hebrew. 'ohel ( App-40 .); "tents" being put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Adjunct), App-6 , for the place where their tents were pitched.

The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.

The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

from the birth, &c. = no birth, none with child, no conception.
conception. This particular word herayon occurs only here, and Ruth 4:13 . A similar word (Hebrew. haron) in Genesis 3:16 .

Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!

Though they bring up, &c Not "inappropriate after Hosea 9:11 ", but is part of the contrast commenced there.
children = sons.
will I bereave them. Ref to Pentateuch (Leviticus 26:22 .Deuteronomy 28:41 , Deuteronomy 28:62 ).
when I depart from them = when I take command from them. Hebrew. sur, as in Hosea 8:4 , and Hosea 12:3 (see notes there). Not the same word as "withdraw" in Hosea 5:6 , which is halaz.

Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.
