Revelation 16:19 “And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.”

This is considered to be God’s wrath because He’s feeding her the cup of wine of the fierceness of His wrath. The reason why Babylon deserves this drink is that she was drinking up the blood of martyrs before.

Revelation 16:20 “And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.”

The greatest earthquake

The islands are gone and the mountains are no longer seen. This earthquake causes so much destruction around the cities that even islands are being sunk and mountains are destroyed.

This could be a result from verse 19, from the earthquake, or it’s just God divinely doing something, just taking away the islands and mountains. That is possible because of verse 21 where God divinely sends out the hail.

Either at verse 19-21 when God pours out His seventh vial, God is divinely making 3 things occurring or it could be one divine intervention where God sends this earthquake, then the hail, and lightning and thunders, and island and mountain fleeing away all ties to the earthquake. It could be either.

Hail like you’ve never seen before

Revelation 16:21 “And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.”

Not only did the cities get wiped out, but men are also receiving no mercy because hail is falling out of heaven.

If it’s a weight of a talent, it’s going to be pretty much 10 to 12 pounds. Notice that it calls it stones, so it’s going to feel like that.

These people get hit by hail and they still will not repent. They get mad at God, they blaspheme Him, they get upset at Him because of the plague of the hail. This plague hurts.

It’s exceeding great, it’s horrible, it’s terrifying, it hurts.

But still, people do not repent

But that’s not a surprise, look at today, when natural catastrophes happen, people say “Why did you allow this to happen, God?” and they get upset at God. Even saved believers say that. They’re not looking at God’s point of view of repentance. So when catastrophes happen, what you got to be thinking about is repentance.

Going back to verse 16 where the Lord sends down His wrath at a place called Armageddon, this location is described throughout the Bible and there are a lot of verses on it. Notice that the location, the geography and the map are provided so that you can understand more specifically where this area will take place.

Armageddon is a literal place

Armageddon is tied to the Second Coming of Christ. We’ve seen many verses about the Second Coming of Christ already, but combine that with the mentions of Armageddon, it builds up even more verses about the Second Coming of Christ. That’s why the main theme throughout your Bible is the Second Coming of Christ.

Judges 5:19 “The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money.”

Megiddo is another word for Armageddon. You’re going to see Megiddo around the similar region of Armageddon.

Judges 5 talks about Deborah, she’s a prophetess. When Deborah is singing, she is prophesying. People think that this is referring to Deborah’s victory against the Canaanites but actually it’s mingled with the Second Coming. It’s not just a historical application of conquering Sisera, it’s another application where she’s prophesying about Armageddon. That’s why Sisera’s army is going to be a great type of the Antichrist.

2 Kings 23:29 “In his days Pharaohnechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.”

Remember Armageddon is by the Euphrates at Revelation 16 so we know the geography here. That’s why God dries up the river Euphrates so that they can meet at Armageddon.

Zechariah 12:11 “In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.”

That’s why when you hear about Armageddon, you’re going to remember that it is a literal location. It has history throughout our Bible of conquest, war and judgment, and even prophetically.

Let’s look at some interesting doctrines on Revelation 17.

Who is Babylon?

A lot of people think that Babylon is referring to Jerusalem, and other people believe that it is referring to the United States of America. Bible believers know that Babylon is referring to Rome. Satan always wants to hide his city so that people don’t see it.

People who teach that it’s Jerusalem when it should be God’s holy city, that’s something you better be careful.
When you talk about America, God does not think about America, He says those nations are like a drop of a bucket to Him.
Not only that, His wrath is more upon Rome throughout its past 2,000 years of persecution against saints. Not just Jewish but even Christian saints. Obviously, His wrath has built up against that city. To dump it on America is overlooking God’s justified wrath.

God wants people to know that Rome is the city where He is pouring out His judgment. Why? There is a reason behind it, why don’t you look at the history of this city?
