What is really sad is one thing Pastor Kim noticed: a lot of people are not interested in prayer when you look at the videos, which is extremely sad. People are more interested in conspiracies, Satan, the Antichrist, and things like that.

Prayer is one of the most important things ever in your life because you can understand God’s system more through prayer.

The Importance of Fasting

Why is fasting important?

The reason why fasting is important is because it undoubtedly builds up something more spiritually within you.

When you are paying attention to God more than food, you have to understand that the flesh, if there is one thing that it needs for survival and craves the most more than anything, is actually food. When God sees you paying more attention to Him than to what your body, your flesh, wants, you have to understand that this is something that will fill God’s presence within you tenfold, much more powerfully.

Look what Moses did when he fasted.

Exodus 34:28-35: “And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai. And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face. But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.”

There was a glow in Moses’ presence through fasting. He did not eat or drink for forty days and forty nights. Why did he do that?

By doing that, crucifying the flesh more and more, he paid more attention to God. The filling presence of God was there.

Some people always want the Holy Spirit power, the filling power of the Holy Spirit. You need to pray for it as if you desperately want it, but to combine with that, where you can be filled with God’s presence and where people can actually see it, if you want something like that, then you need to fast.

If you want people to know that God is with you, God is with that person because that person fasted and prayed. People can tell that you have been with God. You do not have to show it off. People can tell. But there is a danger when you show it off.

Do Not Show Off Your Fasting

The problem with independent fundamental Baptist pastors is that some people boast themselves to be prayer warriors. They claim that they fasted for the entire month or maybe even forty days, and then they keep talking about it constantly over and over again, as though it were something great that they did in praying and fasting.

Rather than encouraging Pastor Kim, that made him more disgusted, thinking, “This guy thinks he is this very spiritual person,” when in Pastor Kim’s eyes he is not a spiritual person. Pastor Kim sees that more as pride. A person wants to show off knowledge. Pastor Kim does not like that, and that is dangerous because that is what the Pharisees do when they fast.

Notice what the Word of God warned about.

Matthew 6:16-18: “Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father, which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.”

When you fast, the most dangerous thing you can ever do is to do it as a show-off. All the prayers that you did with fasting will be in vain if you think that God will reward your prayer life when you fast and pray if it is shown off. God says that is your reward.

People fast and pray because they want to show off to people. They want to show people, “Hey, I fasted and prayed before,” or, “I fasted.” That is dangerous. You have to watch out for that. If that motivates you to fast by showing people how spiritual you are, if that is your motivation, then you better watch out for that. It will not count.

Fasting and Praying Together

As Pastor Kim has taught in previous lessons, the greater the number in prayer, the greater the power in the answers to prayer. It is not just you. If you have more than one person—two, three, four, and so on—if you assemble a group of people combined with you fasting and praying, the Lord can answer more powerfully.

Some independent fundamental Baptist pastors, if they are so spiritual about fasting, should assemble people to team up with them rather than simply showing off. Pastor Kim is not trying to put these people down. Some of them are actually more spiritual than he is, and he can recognize that. But the problem with this show-off attitude about fasting and prayer makes Pastor Kim wonder why they do not assemble people together with them instead. Why not call out a whole meeting to do so?

Think about it. If God sees one child praying to Him without eating, but sees ten of His children doing that, that motivates the Father more. That compels the Father more to answer. By the way, it can also make Him change His mind.

Joel 2:12-17: “Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God? Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?”

Notice that when the people are assembled, the church is a called-out assembly, so this verse can definitely apply to you. In numbers, fasting becomes much more powerful, and God can change His mind. If you want God to bless our blowout, perhaps there should be a fasting and prayer. Maybe you might change God’s mind. Maybe God even made up His mind, “No blowout.” Have you ever thought about that? Maybe that is what God has been doing all this time, and what might change His mind is if you fast and pray.

Fasting and the Hindrance of the Wicked One

The other reason why you want to pray is because you never know why there was that hindrance, and that is from the wicked one. If there is a prayer request that has not been answered, you need to fast and pray this time. Do not just keep praying, but fast and pray.

Why?

Satan could be blocking it. Even though you have been praying and God heard it, the reason why it has not been answered could be because Satan has been hindering it.

Daniel 10:2-3: “In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.”

He was fasting. But look at what the angel said.

Daniel 10:11-13: “And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.”

Notice that Daniel set his heart to understand and to chasten himself before God. What this fasting does is chasten your flesh. The Bible says chastisement. It brings you more into holiness.

Fasting, Chastisement, and Holiness

The reason why is that it makes you more holy. Holiness increases through fasting and prayer. Sure, the amount of sin that you eliminate can help you with your holiness, but it does not increase it. What will do it is through fasting and prayer.

Hebrews 12:9-11: “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

Notice that the peaceable fruit of righteousness increases. There is holiness that arises from that, and there is a peace that accompanies it, where you feel like you have accomplished so much fruit.

Why do you think Satan tries to imitate God’s system with these Buddhist, Eastern mystics, and religious people who combine their meditation and prayer time with fasting? They claim that they achieve some sort of peace or enlightenment or betterment deep down inside because Satan knows that is what prayer can do, and fasting does. Satan gives them a false peace instead of God’s peace.

Knowing that fasting does the chastisement, and according to Hebrews 12 it increases holiness and peace, we see in Daniel chapter 10 and verse 12:

“Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.”

Then continue reading:

“But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.”

This is important to understand.

Look at your prayer life. Why is God not answering the prayer?

It is because the wicked one is getting involved. So it is urgent to keep praying and combine that with fasting. You need to fast together because if you have been praying something for years and years and years and nothing has been answered, it is about time that you should fast now.

There was a person Pastor Kim knew who was like a really hopeless, lost case. The person would not get saved. The person was intellectual, a graduate school student, but then what the minister did was combine it with fasting. He and some people combined fasting this time in prayer, and guess what? The Lord finally answered the prayer, and the person finally got saved.

Why?

Because it was combined with fasting. Some of you need to fast, not just pray.

Fasting and Demonic Attacks

Why do you need to fast and pray?

The reason why is because of evil demonic attacks. Some of you are going through demonic attacks, and Satan has been giving you a heyday. You cannot just pray. This time you have to combine it with fasting.

What is even more powerful than having the sign of God giving you the sign to cast out the devil? People think the power is being that exorcist and then getting the devil out of the person. No. What is even more powerful than that is prayer and fasting, because that exorcist power can be even weaker compared to prayer and fasting.

The disciples could not cast out the devil, so what did Jesus say?

Mark 9:28-29: “And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”

Under demonic attacks, you need to combine prayer and fasting. The demons flee at the substance of the blood of Christ and at the name of Jesus. Aren’t those two things combined in your prayer lesson—the blood of Christ and His holy name? Fasting goes hand in hand with prayer.

Repentance and Fasting

Did you know that you can fast and pray, but the Lord will not answer it?

You might say, “Why? I prayed really hard. I fasted for a long time.”

God will ignore your fasting and prayer if there is one thing that you do not have, and there is something that is preventing you: you did not get your unrepentant sins dealt with.

The context shows that if there is a brother or sister in Christ that you are not getting along with, or there is bitterness without holding back, or if there is sin or wickedness in your life, God says that no matter how long you fast, He is not going to answer it.

Remember the lesson on the hindrance to prayer: remember that division between you and your brother in Christ. Remember not forgiving someone.

Zechariah 7:5-10: “Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves? Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain? And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.”

They refused to hearken and pulled away the shoulder. That is no different from human nature today. That is the problem. You have to realize that if that is your case, you need to repent of that. Otherwise, your fast is completely ignored by God.

To make fasting powerful, you have to repent of your sins. You have to plead the blood to forgive you of them, and you have to resolve it with your brethren. You have to resolve it in your life. Think about it. If you are increasing your spirituality with fasting, nothing will kill it more than increasing your flesh.

If you are fasting and at the same time you are sinning, you have killed it. You are starting from scratch. What is the point of fasting and praying to increase your spirituality, but that increase is ruined when it is brought down again by your flesh?

Truth and Peace

A lot of churches have people who fast and pray longer than you do, but they are not for right doctrine. Then there are Bible believers who are all about right doctrine, but they do not have the right spirit.

When you have these two problems, that is the motto of our blowout: when you worship God in order to have a successful worship like our blowout, they that worship God must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

John 4:23-24: “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

That is why Pastor Kim emphasizes so much that you cannot have a right Sunday service, a proper Sunday service, without the right spirit and truth. Ninety-nine percent of the Christian churches you go to are wasting their Sunday service. That will speak volumes because you cannot worship God without spirit and truth.

Look at Zechariah chapter 8 and notice what God says about fasting and prayer, and the context will follow along with truth and peace.

Zechariah 8:19: “Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.”

Why would God bless and honor their fasting this time?

Therefore, love the truth and peace.

That is the problem. A bunch of Bible believers are always nitpicking and criticizing yours truly and other Bible-believing preachers. The Lord cannot bless their prayer life, especially if they combine that with fasting. They are wasting their time. Then there are a bunch of charismatic churches, New Evangelical churches, and non-denominational churches who do not believe in the importance of right doctrine and love.

They do not love truth. If they loved right doctrine, they should love truth. But if they do not love right doctrine, then they do not care. They prefer a lie that they like. That is their preference. They will say about Pastor Kim’s church, “It is not a matter of preference. It is a matter of the Bible.”

But unlike these other people, why is Pastor Kim calling them out?

Because the people Pastor Kim kicks harder than any other person are those who are given a task and a job to feed souls. When you are given a task and a job to feed souls, especially when people look up to you as God’s man and a spiritual leader, and then you fail to do your job to feed them, you should be called out.  That is why he stands for right doctrine so strongly.

How many members have wasted their years and their lives attending church, thinking they are doing God a service, and they wasted their lives and their time? They might as well go back to the world then. You have to have truth and peace.

That is so important.
