Micah 3:8 “But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.”
Micah the prophet was filled by the spirit of the Lord to preach His words to the people. In order for them to be convicted, the Holy Spirit needs to fill his mouth.
This applies to us, that if we want to have authority over people, or to change people’s lives, we need the power of the Holy Spirit.
The manifestation of God’s power through the Holy Spirit can transform not only ourselves, but our households and the people around us too.
In order to be filled with the Holy Spirit, we just need to follow a few simple steps.
The Person For Spiritual Power
Micah 3:8 ‘But truly I am‘ , it takes one man that God is looking for.
Are we that person that God is seeking to use mightily?
There are a few preachers whom we can take examples, such as D.L Moody, Charles Finney who is considered Godly people who preach so much about the filling power of God’s spirit. These ministers prayed so realistically, immensely, and vividly to God that they are regarded as prayer warriors.
Billy Sunday was able to prohibit alcohol in his country because of his powerful preaching and prayers, he created miracles through God’s spirit. This shows how important the Holy Spirit is in making a difference.
This is showed in the Old Testament as well.
Exodus 31:2-3 “See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,”
Numbers 11:25 “And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.”
Judges 6:33-34 “Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel. But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.”
Judges 14:6 “And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.”
1 Samuel 16:13 “Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”
In the New Testament
Luke 1:15 “For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.”
Luke 4:1 “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,”
Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Acts 13:9-12 “Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him. And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.”
These men could not accomplish these great things, or produce such great fruits without the filling power of the Holy Spirit, and His manifestation.
Sometimes, we rely on our fleshy way much than God’s spirit to overcome our challenges.
Ephesians 4:30 “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”
Galatians 5:17 “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”
This verse shows that the Holy Spirit can be grieved, and it goes against our flesh. This answers us why sometimes we cannot seem to have breakthroughs in our lives.
We need to pray to God and assess our sins, this is because sometimes our underlying sins can be the ones that go unnoticed such as our laziness, our pride, and impatience.
These are the reasons that hinder us from producing spiritual fruits for the Lord.
2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Often times we give more glory to our flesh than to God, we need to learn to yield ourselves to God, and allow God to strengthen and humble us through our sufferings so that God can use us for His glory instead.
The Position For Spiritual Power
Micah 3:8 ‘full of power‘, in regards to the position of the person. It is one thing that we yield ourselves to God, but it is also important for us to realize our position of spiritual power to the Lord.
Can people depend on us to pray for them, or to help take care of the ministry?
Do people see us as that shining light, the vessel of God?
Acts 6:3 “Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”
People should be able to easily see the level of our spiritual filling through our Christian walk, and testimony.
For instance, we can see an athlete filled with the power, for the 26-mile marathon that he is able to accomplish because he faithfully practices.
Similarly, our spiritual power will grow through our faithful practices. God is looking for us, more so our position to fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 11:5-8,13 “And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? “
In verse 13 ‘how much more‘ shows that when we are saved, we already received the Holy Spirit, and it cannot go away. So the matter here is about growing the spirit and not grieving it instead.
This passage reminds us that we need to pray fervently to God for the filling power of the Holy Spirit, God may not answer us in the beginning, but it is about our faithful practices and our sincere prayer that will eventually allow God to fill us up with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Think of the times when we go through trials and experience feelings of desperation, that is when our prayer becomes more sincere and persistent. Nonetheless, we should make this a habit and practice at all times regardless of our situations, not only when it matters.
Ephesians 4:23 “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;”
It is so easy to conform to the obligations and tasks of the world, that we tend to forget to renew our minds. We should freshly consecrate ourselves, and yield ourselves to God, and allow His spirit to work through us.
Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
The Principle For Spiritual Power
The unbreakable principle is the Spirit of the Lord, it’s all-powerful, all-knowing, almighty and it still changes lives today.
1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
This tells us that all credit, power, and glory should always go to God, not to our own flesh. It is so easy for us to get carried away when showered with praises and compliments, without remembering that God is the one that blesses us with all the accomplishments.
Luke 11:9-10 “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
This encourages us to continue to pray to God if we want our prayers to be answered. That doors will open if we continue to seek them.
1 Corinthians 16:9 “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.”
This also explains why a lot of us are not doing spiritual things for the Lord, simply because we don’t seek them. We need to learn to look for opened doors.
Especially as Bible believers, we are fortunate enough to know the right doctrines and to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, we need to hold ourselves accountable to spread the truth, do great spiritual works for the Lord, get souls saved, and create a local community revival.
