Revelation 7:1 “And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.”
“And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth,”
John sees four angels standing on four corners of the earth.
Apparently, atheists and scientists use this as a proof text that your Bible has errors. The simple answer to that is ‘the four corners of the earth’ is an idiomatic expression that’s used in everyday life, it simply meant north, south, east and west.
So there are four angels standing north, south, east and west.
“holding the four winds of the earth,”
Why are they holding the four winds?
“that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.”
It’s as if God has all these winds ready to blow over the world but the four angels are the ones preventing it from happening.
Revelation 7:2 “And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,”
“And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God:”
So this angel, holding God’s seal, comes from the east.
“and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,”
These angels have these four winds that are going to hurt the earth and the sea. When you hear about all these hurricanes happening worldwide, that’s something to pay attention to. Those things are building up where those angels are holding it and they’re about to let it go, it’s like they’re dropping in little bit of wind, hurricane here and typhoon there. But once they let it go, you’re going to see typhoons, hurricanes and tornadoes everywhere around the world and the news are going to be flooded with that.
Revelation 7:3 “Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.”
There’s this particular angel who comes out from the east, holding the seal of the living God, saying don’t hurt the earth, sea, nor trees until he has sealed the servants of God on their forehead. Who are they?
Revelation 7:4 “And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.”
All tribes of Israel who are 144,000 Jews.
There’s a heresy called replacement theology and they believe that the Christian church has replaced the Jews and some of them claim that verse 4 is referring to themselves. But that’s ridiculous, look at verse 5, God is naming specific tribes here. This cannot be spiritual Jews here. If so, then who’s from each tribe? This has to be a literal group, from a literal individual from a literal tribe. These are literal physical Jews.
There’s this one female Jehovah Witness who thought Jehovah Witness were the 144,000 and this evangelist pulled this verse on her:
Revelation 14:1 “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.”
So they are sealed with the Father’s name.
It’s important to note that this mark contains the name of the Father. This shows that Christians have a different sealing. Ephesians 1:13 says that we, Christians are sealed by the Holy Ghost unto the day of redemption. Remember in Revelation 2 and 3 that when we’re saved by Jesus Christ, we already have a new name in heaven and that happened at a spiritual process. This is something that’s literally happening where they’re going to stamp the seal of God on their forehead, it shows that these people are not Christians, they have very different sealings. Why is that? Because if you look at Revelation 13, the Antichrist is going to have people receive a mark on their forehead and on their right hands and the mark includes his name. This is happening literally and that’s why God has to do something literal as well upon the Jews.
Revelaton 14:4 “These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.”
Notice the 144,000 are referring to virgin Jewish males.
Revelation 7:4 “And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.”
The 144,000 have the seal of God on their foreheads and that matches with Ezekiel 9.
Ezekiel 9:3-4 “And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer’s inkhorn by his side; And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.”
Verse 3 refers to ‘God of Israel’: this is referring to the Jews.
When verse 4 says ‘through the midst of Jerusalem’, this is a literal land location in Israel, they are not spiritual Jews.
When ‘abominations’ is used, remember Matthew 24, the abomination of desolation spoken by Daniel. This is referring to the tribulation timeline where the Jews received the sealing of God.
