Revelation 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
The False Prophet performs great wonders including the ability to make fire descend from heaven. The verse then reveals that the wonder which the False Prophet performs is witnessed by men, so it is done with the purpose that men acknowledge his power.
Previous Revelation 13 commentaries mention a possible identity for the False Prophet as being a popular minister figure. Think about pastors that promote the charismatic movement through the use of signs, wonders, and healings. They rely a lot on their feelings about what the Holy Spirit is doing. This movement is extremely dangerous for believers to fall into because it is not scripturally applicable to the Christian Church and paves the way for the one world religion of the Antichrist. The following verses serve as proof that signs and wonders are no longer applicable to the Church and should not be sought after.
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Some people who say that they see Jesus in their visions. But this is what the Bible say. ‘And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:‘. That’s why Bible-believers teach that signs and wonders are given to the nation of Israel. When they rejected it, God moved on to the Gentiles but they were no longer in practice now.
Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
‘if it were possible, even the elect.‘
This means that even Christians can be fooled.
‘so that he maketh fire come down from heaven’
Every mention in the Bible where fire descended from heaven is done by a prophet.
- Korah, Dathan, and Abiram who rebelled against God when Moses was a prophet
- Elijah and the prophets of Baal
- Elijah calling down fire to burn enemies
The 3 recurring things in each of these scenarios are:
- a sacrifice to prove God,
- the burning of enemies,
- and a prophet.
Given that this has been done with God’s prophets and that Satan tries to imitate God any way he can, it is a possibility (within the context of verse 13) that the enemies of the Antichrist (saints that are martyred in Revelation 6) will also burn with the fire that descends from heaven in order to prove the False Prophet as a legitimate prophet and the Antichrist as God.
