Calvinism teaches that God ordained mankind to do good action or evil action. They totally deny free will.
Proverbs 16:4 “The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.”
Calvinist teaches that the Lord God made wicked people. We did not become wicked by our free choice, God deliberately made us that way.
Notice in Proverbs 16:4, it has nothing to do with free will or decision or choice. All it’s saying is God making, designing, using His creating of the wicked.
Here’s the idea, wicked and good people are so by their free will. Once we make the free choice of being wicked or good, God is going to use those things for His glory. God is sovereign, He makes sure that everything is going to go in His plan and timetable. Everything will be used for His glory, nothing is out of control of God. But here’s the thing, God did not deliberately make those things happen. What proves even more of the sovereignty of God is that God can still make His plan work by using that free choice of man for His glory.
But look at verse 3, it’s a free choice first then God makes it for His glory.
Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Look at verse 9, it’s also free choice first.
Proverbs 16:9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
If we want to choose to rebel against God (free choice first), then God will make that thing be used for His glory.
For example, Pharaoh rebelled against God and not letting the children of Israel go. So God made these things happened for His glory where He hardened even more of Pharaoh’s heart so that all of Egypt can witness His power on the plagues of Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea. He will not have been able to accomplish that had not God worked on Pharaoh’s heart to dig deeper into that mess.
God will give us what we want and so much more. If we want to take drugs or be rich, God will let us succeed, He will let that happen and He will even make it happen so much more. He’ll make us so filthy rich where we deny God completely, where we think we have it all and God will make us proud. In the end, God will use that stubbornness and pride of us to catch and expose us where we go bankrupt and have no peace in our hearts, where God uses the foolish and poor people for His glory, not us, to expose to us what good were the riches at the end.
That’s the kind of God we serve is that He’s going to give us what we want and even make it happen so much more.
But God does not enforce us against our will, He helps us out in our will and makes it happen so much more.
