וְנִגַּ֥שׁ

הַכֹּהֵ֖ן

and speak

וְדִבֶּ֥ר

 

אֶל

unto the people

הָעָֽם׃

And shall say

וְאָמַ֤ר

 

אֲלֵהֶם֙

unto them Hear

שְׁמַ֣ע

O Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

 

אַתֶּ֨ם

ye approach

קְרֵבִ֥ים

this day

הַיּ֛וֹם

unto battle

לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה

 

עַל

against your enemies

אֹֽיְבֵיכֶ֑ם

 

אַל

faint

יֵרַ֣ךְ

let not your hearts

לְבַבְכֶ֗ם

 

אַל

fear

תִּֽירְא֧וּ

 

וְאַֽל

not and do not tremble

תַּחְפְּז֛וּ

 

וְאַל

neither be ye terrified

תַּֽעַרְצ֖וּ

because

מִפְּנֵיהֶֽם׃

 

כִּ֚י

For the LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

your God

אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם

is he that goeth

הַֽהֹלֵ֖ךְ

 

עִמָּכֶ֑ם

with you to fight

לְהִלָּחֵ֥ם

 

לָכֶ֛ם

 

עִם

for you against your enemies

אֹֽיְבֵיכֶ֖ם

to save

לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ

וְדִבְּר֣וּ

And the officers

הַשֹּֽׁטְרִים֮

 

אֶל

unto the people

הָעָ֣ם

לֵאמֹר֒

What man

וְאִ֥ישׁ

 

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

is there that hath built

בָּנָ֤ה

house

לְבֵית֑וֹ

a new

חָדָשׁ֙

 

וְלֹ֣א

and hath not dedicated

יַחְנְכֶֽנּוּ׃

 

יֵלֵ֖ךְ

and return

וְיָשֹׁ֣ב

house

לְבֵית֑וֹ

 

פֶּן

lest he die

יָמוּת֙

in the battle

בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה

What man

וְאִ֥ישׁ

אַחֵ֖ר

unto his house

לְבֵית֑וֹ

 

וְלֹ֥א

that they shall make

וּפָֽקְד֛וּ

שָׂרֵ֥י

of the armies

צְבָא֖וֹת

to lead

בְּרֹ֥אשׁ

the people

הָעָֽם׃

 

כִּֽי

When thou comest nigh

תִקְרַ֣ב

 

אֶל

unto a city

עִ֔יר

to fight

לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם

 

עָלֶ֑יהָ

against it then proclaim

וְקָרָ֥אתָ

 

אֵלֶ֖יהָ

peace

לְשָׁלֽוֹם׃

 

וְהָיָה֙

 

אִם

of peace

שָׁל֣וֹם

And it shall be if it make thee answer

תַּֽעַנְךָ֔

and open

וּפָֽתְחָ֖ה

 

לָ֑ךְ

 

וְהָיָ֞ה

 

כָּל

unto thee then it shall be that all the people

הָעָ֣ם

that is found

הַנִּמְצָא

 

בָ֗הּ

 

יִֽהְי֥וּ

 

לְךָ֛

therein shall be tributaries

לָמַ֖ס

unto thee and they shall serve

וַֽעֲבָדֽוּךָ׃

 

וְאִם

 

לֹ֤א

And if it will make no peace

תַשְׁלִים֙

 

עִמָּ֔ךְ

with thee but will make

וְעָֽשְׂתָ֥ה

 

עִמְּךָ֖

war

מִלְחָמָ֑ה

against thee then thou shalt besiege

וְצַרְתָּ֖

 

עָלֶֽיהָ׃

hath delivered

וּנְתָנָ֛הּ

And when the LORD

יְהוָ֥ה

thy God

אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ

it into thine hands

בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ

thou shalt smite

וְהִכִּיתָ֥

every male

זְכוּרָ֖הּ

thereof with the edge

לְפִי

of the sword

חָֽרֶב׃

 

רַ֣ק

But the women

הַ֠נָּשִׁים

and the little ones

וְהַטַּ֨ף

and the cattle

וְהַבְּהֵמָ֜ה

and all that is in the city

אֲשֶׁ֛ר

of these nations

הַגּֽוֹיִם

 

הָאֵ֖לֶּה

from thee which

הֵֽנָּה׃

 

רַ֗ק

But of the cities

מֵֽעָרֵ֤י

הָֽעַמִּים֙

אֲשֶׁר֙

which the LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ

thee for an inheritance

thou shalt save alive

But thou shalt utterly

and the Jebusites

וְהַיְבוּסִ֑י

 

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר

hath commanded

צִוְּךָ֖

as the LORD

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

That they teach

יְלַמְּד֤וּ

 

אֶתְכֶם֙

which they have done

after all their abominations

תּֽוֹעֲבֹתָ֔ם

unto their gods

אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃

so should ye sin

וַֽחֲטָאתֶ֖ם

against the LORD
