נַחֲלָתִ֔י

וָאֶתְּנֵ֖ם

them into thine hand

לֹא

thou didst shew

לָהֶם֙

them no mercy

רַחֲמִ֔ים

 

עַל

upon the ancient

זָקֵ֕ן

heavily

הִכְבַּ֥דְתְּ

laid thy yoke

עֻלֵּ֖ךְ

hast thou very

מְאֹֽד׃

And thou saidst

וַתֹּ֣אמְרִ֔י

for ever

לְעוֹלָ֖ם

 

אֶהְיֶ֣ה

I shall be a lady

גְבָ֑רֶת

 

עַ֣ד

 

לֹא

so that thou didst not lay

שַׂ֥מְתְּ

 

אֵ֙לֶּה֙

 

עַל

these things to thy heart

לִבֵּ֔ךְ

 

לֹ֥א

neither didst remember

זָכַ֖רְתְּ

the latter end

אַחֲרִיתָֽהּ׃

 

וְעַתָּ֞ה

Therefore hear

שִׁמְעִי

 

זֹ֤את

now this thou that art given to pleasures

עֲדִינָה֙

beside me I shall not sit

אֵשֵׁב֙

carelessly

לָבֶ֔טַח

that sayest

הָאֹֽמְרָה֙

in thine heart

בִּלְבָ֔בָהּ

 

אֲנִ֖י

I am and none else

וְאַפְסִ֣י

 

ע֑וֹד

 

לֹ֤א

beside me I shall not sit

אֵשֵׁב֙

as a widow

אַלְמָנָ֔ה

 

וְלֹ֥א

neither shall I know

אֵדַ֖ע

the loss of children

שְׁכֽוֹל׃

they shall come

בָּ֣אוּ

 

לָּ֨ךְ

But these two

שְׁתֵּי

 

אֵ֥לֶּה

to thee in a moment

רֶ֛גַע

day

בְּי֥וֹם

in one

אֶחָ֖ד

the loss of children

שְׁכ֣וֹל

and widowhood

וְאַלְמֹ֑ן

upon thee in their perfection

כְּתֻמָּם֙

they shall come

בָּ֣אוּ

 

עָלַ֔יִךְ

for the multitude

בְּרֹ֣ב

of thy sorceries

כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ

abundance

בְּעָצְמַ֥ת

of thine enchantments

חֲבָרַ֖יִךְ

and for the great

מְאֹֽד׃

For thou hast trusted

וַתִּבְטְחִ֣י

in thy wickedness

בְרָעָתֵ֗ךְ

thee and thou hast said

וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י

 

אֵ֣ין

None seeth

רֹאָ֔נִי

me Thy wisdom

חָכְמָתֵ֥ךְ

and thy knowledge

וְדַעְתֵּ֖ךְ

 

הִ֣יא

it hath perverted

שׁוֹבְבָ֑תֶךְ

thee and thou hast said

וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י

in thine heart

בְלִבֵּ֔ךְ

 

אֲנִ֖י

I am and none else

וְאַפְסִ֥י

 

עֽוֹד׃

come

וְתָבֹ֨א

 

עָלַ֣יִךְ

Therefore shall evil

רָעָ֗ה

 

לֹ֤א

upon thee thou shalt not know

תֵדָֽעִי׃

from whence it riseth

שַׁחְרָ֔הּ

shall fall

וְתִפֹּ֤ל

 

עָלַ֙יִךְ֙

and mischief

הוָֹ֔ה

 

לֹ֥א

upon thee thou shalt not be able

תוּכְלִ֖י

to put it off

כַּפְּרָ֑הּ

come

וְתָבֹ֨א

 

עָלַ֧יִךְ

upon thee suddenly

פִּתְאֹ֛ם

and desolation

שֹׁאָ֖ה

 

לֹ֥א

upon thee thou shalt not know

תֵדָֽעִי׃

Stand

עִמְדִי

 

נָ֤א

now with thine enchantments

בַחֲבָרַ֙יִךְ֙

and with the multitude

וּבְרֹ֣ב

of thy sorceries

כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ

wherein

בַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר

thou hast laboured

יָגַ֖עַתְּ

from thy youth

מִנְּעוּרָ֑יִךְ

 

אוּלַ֛י

if so be thou shalt be able

תּוּכְלִ֥י

to profit

הוֹעִ֖יל

 

אוּלַ֥י

if so be thou mayest prevail

תַּעֲרֽוֹצִי׃

Thou art wearied

נִלְאֵ֖ית

in the multitude

בְּרֹ֣ב

of thy counsels

עֲצָתָ֑יִךְ

stand up

יַעַמְדוּ

 

נָ֨א

and save

וְיוֹשִׁיעֻ֜ךְ

Let now the astrologers

הֹבְרֵ֣ו

 

שָׁמַ֗יִם

the stargazers

הַֽחֹזִים֙

 

בַּכּ֣וֹכָבִ֔ים

prognosticators

מֽוֹדִעִים֙

the monthly

לֶחֳדָשִׁ֔ים

 

מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר

thee from these things that shall come

יָבֹ֖אוּ

 

עָלָֽיִךְ׃

 

הִנֵּ֨ה

 

הָי֤וּ

Behold they shall be as stubble

כְקַשׁ֙

the fire

אֵ֣שׁ

shall burn

שְׂרָפָ֔תַם

 

לֹֽא

them they shall not deliver

יַצִּ֥ילוּ

נַפְשָׁ֖ם

from the power

מִיַּ֣ד

of the flame

there shall not be a coal

גַּחֶ֣לֶת

to warm

לַחְמָ֔ם

to sit

לָשֶׁ֥בֶת

 

נֶגְדּֽוֹ׃

הָיוּ

 

לָ֖ךְ

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured

יָגָ֑עַתְּ

even thy merchants

סֹחֲרַ֣יִךְ

from thy youth

מִנְּעוּרַ֗יִךְ

every one

אִ֤ישׁ

to his quarter

לְעֶבְרוֹ֙

they shall wander

תָּע֔וּ

 

אֵ֖ין

none shall save

מוֹשִׁיעֵֽךְ׃
