הָעִ֖יר

with a pillar

עַמּ֣וּד

of smoke

עָשָׁ֑ן

looked

וַיִּ֤פֶן

 

בִּנְיָמִן֙

behind

אַֽחֲרָ֔יו

 

וְהִנֵּ֛ה

ascended up

עָלָ֥ה

them and behold the flame

כְלִיל

of the city

הָעִ֖יר

to heaven

הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃

And when the men

אִ֣ישׁ

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

turned again

הָפַ֔ךְ

were amazed

וַיִּבָּהֵ֖ל

And when the men

אִ֣ישׁ

of Benjamin

בִּנְיָמִ֑ן

 

כִּ֣י

for they saw

רָאָ֔ה

 

כִּֽי

was come

נָגְעָ֥ה

 

עָלָ֖יו

that evil

הָֽרָעָֽה׃

Therefore they turned

וַיִּפְנ֞וּ

their backs before

לִפְנֵ֨י

the men

אִ֤ישׁ

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

 

אֶל

unto the way

דֶּ֣רֶךְ

of the wilderness

הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר

but the battle

וְהַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה

overtook

הִדְבִּיקָ֑תְהוּ

 

וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙

them and them which came out of the cities

מֵהֶ֣עָרִ֔ים

they destroyed

מַשְׁחִיתִ֥ים

 

אוֹת֖וֹ

in the midst

בְּתוֹכֽוֹ׃

Thus they inclosed

כִּתְּר֤וּ

 

אֶת

 

בִּנְיָמִן֙

and chased

הִרְדִיפֻ֔הוּ

with ease

מְנוּחָ֖ה

them and trode them down

הִדְרִיכֻ֑הוּ

 

עַ֛ד

over against

נֹ֥כַח

Gibeah

הַגִּבְעָ֖ה

toward the sunrising

מִמִּזְרַח

 

שָֽׁמֶשׁ׃

And there fell

וַֽיִּפְּלוּ֙

of Benjamin

מִבִּנְיָמִ֔ן

toward the wilderness

הַמִּדְבָּ֙רָה֙

unto the rock

סֶ֣לַע

of Rimmon

הָֽרִמּ֔וֹן

and they gleaned

וַיְעֹֽלְלֻ֙הוּ֙

of them in the highways

בַּֽמְסִלּ֔וֹת

five

חֲמֵ֥שֶׁת

thousand

אַלְפַּ֥יִם

men

אִֽישׁ׃

and pursued

וַיַּדְבִּ֤יקוּ

hard after

אַֽחֲרָיו֙

 

עַד

them unto Gidom

גִּדְעֹ֔ם

and slew

וַיַּכּ֥וּ

 

מִמֶּ֖נּוּ

thousand

אַלְפַּ֥יִם

men

אִֽישׁ׃

 

וַיְהִי֩

that drew

חֶ֖רֶב

בַּיּ֣וֹם

וַיִּפְנ֞וּ

וַיָּנֻ֤סוּ

to the wilderness

and all that came to hand

הַנִּמְצָא֖וֹת

all the cities

הֶֽעָרִ֥ים

and all that came to hand

הַנִּמְצָא֖וֹת

also they set

שִׁלְּח֥וּ

on fire

בָאֵֽשׁ׃
