1
And
καὶ
it came to pass
ἐγένετο
when
ὅτε
had made an end
ἐτέλεσεν

Jesus
Ἰησοῦς
of commanding
διατάσσων

τοῖς
twelve
δώδεκα
disciples
μαθηταῖς
their
αὐτῶν
he departed
μετέβη
thence
ἐκεῖθεν

τοῦ
to teach
διδάσκειν
And
καὶ
to preach
κηρύσσειν
in
ἐν

ταῖς
cities
πόλεσιν
their
αὐτῶν
2

Now
δὲ
when John
Ἰωάννης
had heard
ἀκούσας
in
ἐν

τῷ
the prison
δεσμωτηρίῳ

τὰ
the works
ἔργα

τοῦ
of Christ
Χριστοῦ
he sent
πέμψας
two
δύο

τῶν
disciples
μαθητῶν

αὐτοῦ
3
And said
εἶπεν
unto him
αὐτῷ
thou
Σὺ
Art
εἶ

he that should come
ἐρχόμενος
or
for another
ἕτερον
do we look
προσδοκῶμεν
4
and
καὶ
answered
ἀποκριθεὶς

Jesus
Ἰησοῦς
said
εἶπεν
unto them
αὐτοῖς
Go
Πορευθέντες
again
ἀπαγγείλατε
John
Ἰωάννῃ
those things which
ye do hear
ἀκούετε
and
καὶ
see
βλέπετε·
5
The blind
τυφλοὶ
receive their sight
ἀναβλέπουσιν
and
καὶ
the lame
χωλοὶ
walk
περιπατοῦσιν
the lepers
λεπροὶ
are cleansed
καθαρίζονται
and
καὶ
the deaf
κωφοὶ
hear
ἀκούουσιν
the dead
νεκροὶ
are raised up
ἐγείρονται
and
καὶ
the poor
πτωχοὶ
have the gospel preached to them
εὐαγγελίζονται·
6
And
καὶ
blessed
μακάριός
is
ἐστιν
he whosoever
ὃς

ἐὰν

μὴ
be offended
σκανδαλισθῇ
in
ἐν
me
ἐμοί
7
as
Τούτων
And
δὲ
they departed
πορευομένων
began
ἤρξατο

Jesus
Ἰησοῦς
to say
λέγειν

τοῖς
unto the multitudes
ὄχλοις
concerning
περὶ
John
Ἰωάννου
What
Τί
went ye
ἐξήλθετε
out into
εἰς

τὴν
the wilderness
ἔρημον
to see
θεάσασθαι
A reed
κάλαμον
with
ὑπὸ
the wind
ἀνέμου
shaken
σαλευόμενον
8
But
ἀλλὰ
what
τί
went ye out
ἐξήλθετε
for to see
ἰδεῖν
A man
ἄνθρωπον
in
ἐν
soft
μαλακὰ
raiment
ἱματίοις
clothed
ἠμφιεσμένον
behold
ἰδού,

οἱ

τὰ
soft
μαλακὰ
they that wear
φοροῦντες
in
ἐν

τοῖς
houses
οἴκοις

τῶν
kings
βασιλέων
clothing are
εἰσίν
9
But
ἀλλὰ
what
τί
went ye out
ἐξήλθετε
for to see
ἰδεῖν
A prophet
προφήτου
yea
ναί
I say
λέγω
unto you
ὑμῖν
and
καὶ

περισσότερον
A prophet
προφήτου
10
this
οὗτός
For
γὰρ
is
ἐστιν
he of
περὶ
which
ὃς
it is written
γέγραπται,
Behold
Ἰδού,
I
ἐγὼ
send
ἀποστέλλω

τὸν
messenger
ἄγγελόν
my
μου
before
πρὸ
face
προσώπου
thee
σου
which
ὃς
shall prepare
κατασκευάσει

τὴν
way
ὁδόν
thee
σου
before
ἔμπροσθέν
thee
σου
11
Verily
ἀμὴν
I say
λέγω
unto you
ὑμῖν,
not
οὐκ
risen
ἐγήγερται
Among
ἐν
them that are born
γεννητοῖς
of women
γυναικῶν
a greater than
μείζων
John
Ἰωάννου

τοῦ
the Baptist
βαπτιστοῦ·

notwithstanding
δὲ
he that is least
μικρότερος
Among
ἐν

τῇ
the kingdom
βασιλείᾳ

τῶν
of heaven
οὐρανῶν
a greater than
μείζων
he
αὐτοῦ
is
ἐστιν
12
from
ἀπὸ
And
δὲ

τῶν
the days
ἡμερῶν
of John
Ἰωάννου

τοῦ
the Baptist
βαπτιστοῦ
until
ἕως
now
ἄρτι

the kingdom
βασιλεία

τῶν
of heaven
οὐρανῶν
suffereth violence
βιάζεται
and
καὶ
the violent
βιασταὶ
by force
ἁρπάζουσιν
it
αὐτήν
13
all
πάντες
For
γὰρ

οἱ
the prophets
προφῆται
and
καὶ

the law
νόμος
until
ἕως
John
Ἰωάννου
prophesied
προεφήτευσαν·
14
And
καὶ
if
εἰ
ye will
θέλετε
receive
δέξασθαι,
it this
αὐτός
is
ἐστιν
Elias
Ἠλίας
which
was for
μέλλων
to come
ἔρχεσθαι
15

He that hath
ἔχων
ears
ὦτα
let him hear
ἀκουέτω
let him hear
ἀκουέτω
16
whereunto
Τίνι
But
δὲ
shall I liken
ὁμοιώσω

τὴν
generation
γενεὰν

ταύτην
like
ὁμοία
It is
ἐστὶν
unto children
παιδαρίοις
in
ἐν
the markets
ἀγοραῖς
sitting
καθημένοις
and
καὶ
calling
προσφωνοῦσιν

τοῖς
fellows
ἑταίροις

αὐτῶν,
17
And
καὶ
saying
λέγουσιν
We have piped
Ηὐλήσαμεν
unto you
ὑμῖν,
And
καὶ
not
οὐκ
danced
ὠρχήσασθε
we have mourned
ἐθρηνήσαμεν
unto you
ὑμῖν,
And
καὶ
not
οὐκ

For

John
Ἰωάννης
neither

neither
μήτε

πίνων
and

a devil
Δαιμόνιον

The Son

But

But

Then
Τότε

O Father
