of the strange

הַנֵּכָ֖ר

gods and the high places

וְהַבָּמ֑וֹת

and brake down

וַיְשַׁבֵּר֙

 

אֶת

the images

הַמַּצֵּב֔וֹת

and cut down

וַיְגַדַּ֖ע

 

אֶת

the groves

הָֽאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃

And commanded

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

Judah

לִֽיהוּדָ֔ה

to seek

לִדְר֕וֹשׁ

 

אֶת

the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

God

אֱלֹהֵ֣י

of their fathers

אֲבֽוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם

and to do

וְלַֽעֲשׂ֖וֹת

the law

הַתּוֹרָ֥ה

and the commandment

וְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃

Also he took away

וַיָּ֙סַר֙

 

מִכָּל

out of all the cities

עָרֵ֣י

of Judah

יְהוּדָ֔ה

 

אֶת

the high places

הַבָּמ֖וֹת

 

וְאֶת

and the images

הַֽחַמָּנִ֑ים

was quiet

וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט

and the kingdom

הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה

before

לְפָנָֽיו׃

And he built

וַיִּ֛בֶן

cities

עָרֵ֥י

fenced

מְצוּרָ֖ה

in Judah

בִּֽיהוּדָ֑ה

 

כִּֽי

had rest

שָׁקְטָ֣ה

for the land

הָאָ֗רֶץ

 

וְאֵין

 

עִמּ֤וֹ

and he had no war

מִלְחָמָה֙

in those years

בַּשָּׁנִ֣ים

 

הָאֵ֔לֶּה

 

כִּֽי

had given him rest

הֵנִ֥יחַ

because the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

 

לֽוֹ׃

Therefore he said

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

unto Judah

לִֽיהוּדָ֜ה

Let us build

וַיִּבְנ֖וּ

 

אֶת

these cities

הֶֽעָרִ֣ים

 

הָאֵ֗לֶּה

and make about

וְנָסֵ֨ב

them walls

חוֹמָ֣ה

and towers

וּמִגְדָּלִים֮

gates

דְּלָתַ֣יִם

and bars

וּבְרִיחִים֒

 

עוֹדֶ֨נּוּ

while the land

הָאָ֜רֶץ

is yet before

לְפָנֵ֗ינוּ

 

כִּ֤י

us because we have sought

דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ

 

אֶת

the LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

our God

אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ

us because we have sought

דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ

him and he hath given us rest

וַיָּ֥נַֽח

 

לָ֖נוּ

on every side

מִסָּבִ֑יב

Let us build

וַיִּבְנ֖וּ

and prospered

וַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃

 

וַיְהִ֣י

And Asa

לְאָסָ֗א

had an army

חָֽיִל׃

of men that bare

נֹֽשְׂאֵ֤י

targets

צִנָּ֣ה

and spears

וָרֹמַח֒

out of Judah

מִֽיהוּדָה֙

three

שְׁלֹ֣שׁ

hundred

מָאתַ֥יִם

and out of Benjamin

וּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ן

of men that bare

נֹֽשְׂאֵ֤י

מָגֵן֙

and drew

וְדֹ֣רְכֵי

and fourscore

וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים

all these were mighty men

And there came out

וַיֵּצֵ֨א

the Ethiopian

הַכּוּשִׁ֗י

with an host

בְּחַ֙יִל֙

of a thousand

אֲלָפִ֔ים

of a thousand

chariots

וּמַרְכָּב֖וֹת

שְׁלֹ֣שׁ

hundred

מֵא֑וֹת

and came

וַיָּבֹ֖א

 

עַד

unto Mareshah

מָֽרֵשָֽׁה׃

went out

וַיֵּצֵ֥א

Then Asa

אָסָ֖א

against

לְפָנָ֑יו

in array

וַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙

him and they set the battle

מִלְחָמָ֔ה

in the valley

בְּגֵ֥יא

of Zephathah

צְפַ֖תָה

at Mareshah

לְמָֽרֵשָֽׁה׃

cried

וַיִּקְרָ֨א

And Asa

אָסָ֜א

 

אֶל

LORD

יְהוָ֤ה

his God

אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙

and said

וַיֹּאמַר֒

LORD

יְהוָ֤ה

 

אֵֽין

 

עִמְּךָ֤

help

עָזְרֵ֜נוּ

whether

בֵּ֥ין

with many

רַב֙

 

לְאֵ֣ין

or with them that have no power

כֹּ֔חַ

help

עָזְרֵ֜נוּ

LORD

יְהוָ֤ה

his God

אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙

 

כִּֽי

 

עָלֶ֣יךָ

for we rest

נִשְׁעַ֔נּוּ

on thee and in thy name

וּבְשִׁמְךָ֣

we go

בָ֔אנוּ

 

עַל

against this multitude

הֶֽהָמ֖וֹן

וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ

and the Ethiopians

that were with him pursued

וַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨ם

And Asa

and the people

וְהָעָ֣ם

 

אֲשֶׁר

 

עִמּוֹ֮

them unto Gerar

לִגְרָר֒

were overthrown

וַיִּפֹּ֤ל

and the Ethiopians

מִכּוּשִׁים֙

 

לְאֵ֣ין

 

לָהֶ֣ם

that they could not recover

מִֽחְיָ֔ה

 

כִּֽי

themselves for they were destroyed

נִשְׁבְּר֥וּ

and before

וְלִפְנֵ֣י

the LORD

his host

מַֽחֲנֵ֑הוּ

and they carried away

וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ

spoil

And they smote

for there was exceeding much

רַבָּ֖ה

also the tents

אָֽהֳלֵ֥י

of cattle

They smote

הִכּ֑וּ

and carried away

וַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּ

sheep

צֹ֤אן

in abundance

לָרֹב֙

and camels

וּגְמַלִּ֔ים

and returned

וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ

to Jerusalem

יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
