אַ֭תָּה

Yea thou castest off

תָּפֵ֣ר

fear

and restrainest

כִּ֤י

uttereth

יְאַלֵּ֣ף

thine iniquity

עֲוֺנְךָ֣

For thy mouth

and thou choosest

וְ֝תִבְחַ֗ר

the tongue

לְשׁ֣וֹן

of the crafty

עֲרוּמִֽים׃

condemneth

יַרְשִֽׁיעֲךָ֣

Thine own mouth

אָ֑נִי

thee and not I yea thine own lips

וּ֝שְׂפָתֶ֗יךָ

testify

יַעֲנוּ

 

בָֽךְ׃

Art thou the first

הֲרִאישׁ֣וֹן

man

that was born

תִּוָּלֵ֑ד

וְלִפְנֵ֖י

the hills

גְבָע֣וֹת

or wast thou made

חוֹלָֽלְתָּ׃

the secret

הַבְס֣וֹד

of God

אֱל֣וֹהַ

Hast thou heard

תִּשְׁמָ֑ע

and dost thou restrain

וְתִגְרַ֖ע

 

אֵלֶ֣יךָ

wisdom

חָכְמָֽה׃

What knowest

נֵדָ֑ע

 

וְלֹ֣א

not what understandest

תָּ֝בִ֗ין

עִמָּ֥נוּ

With us are both the grayheaded

men much

כַּבִּ֖יר

than thy father

מֵאָבִ֣יךָ

Are the consolations

תַּנְחוּמ֣וֹת

אֵ֑ל

וְ֝דָבָ֗ר

with thee is there any secret

Why doth thine heart

אֶל

against God

אֵ֣ל

thy spirit

רוּחֶ֑ךָ

go out

וְהֹצֵ֖אתָ

of thy mouth

מִפִּ֣יךָ

and lettest such words

מִלִּֽין׃

 

מָֽה

What is man

אֱנ֥וֹשׁ

 

כִּֽי

that he should be clean

יִזְכֶּ֑ה

 

וְכִֽי

that he should be righteous

יִ֝צְדַּ֗ק

and he which is born

יְל֣וּד

of a woman

אִשָּֽׁה׃

 

הֵ֣ן

in his saints

בִּ֭קְדֹשָׁו

 

לֹ֣א

Behold he putteth no trust

יַאֲמִ֑ין

yea the heavens

וְ֝שָׁמַ֗יִם

 

לֹא

are not clean

זַכּ֥וּ

in his sight

בְעֵינָֽיו׃

 

אַ֭ף

 

כִּֽי

How much more abominable

נִתְעָ֥ב

and filthy

וְֽנֶאֱלָ֑ח

is man

אִישׁ

which drinketh

שֹׁתֶ֖ה

like water

כַמַּ֣יִם

iniquity

עַוְלָֽה׃

I will shew

אֲחַוְךָ֥

thee hear

שְֽׁמַֽע

 

לִ֑י

 

וְזֶֽה

me and that which I have seen

חָ֝זִ֗יתִי

I will declare

וַאֲסַפֵּֽרָה׃

 

אֲשֶׁר

Which wise

חֲכָמִ֥ים

men have told

יַגִּ֑ידוּ

 

וְלֹ֥א

and have not hid

כִֽ֝חֲד֗וּ

from their fathers

מֵאֲבוֹתָֽם׃

 

לָהֶ֣ם

 

לְ֭בַדָּם

was given

נִתְּנָ֣ה

Unto whom alone the earth

הָאָ֑רֶץ

 

וְלֹא

passed

עָ֖בַר

and no stranger

זָ֣ר

among

בְּתוֹכָֽם׃

 

כָּל

with pain all his days

יְמֵ֣י

The wicked

רָ֭שָׁע

 

ה֣וּא

man travaileth

מִתְחוֹלֵ֑ל

and the number

וּמִסְפַּ֥ר

of years

שָׁ֝נִ֗ים

is hidden

נִצְפְּנ֥וּ

to the oppressor

לֶעָרִֽיץ׃

sound

קוֹל

A dreadful

פְּחָדִ֥ים

is in his ears

בְּאָזְנָ֑יו

in prosperity

בַּ֝שָּׁל֗וֹם

the destroyer

שׁוֹדֵ֥ד

shall come

יְבוֹאֶֽנּוּ׃

 

לֹא

He believeth

יַאֲמִ֣ין

not that he shall return

שׁ֭וּב

 

מִנִּי

out of darkness

חֹ֑שֶׁךְ

and he is waited

וְצָפ֖וּ

 

ה֣וּא

 

אֱלֵי

for of the sword

חָֽרֶב׃

He wandereth abroad

נֹ֘דֵ֤ד

 

ה֣וּא

for bread

לַלֶּ֣חֶם

 

אַיֵּ֑ה

saying Where is it he knoweth

יָדַ֓ע׀

 

כִּֽי

is ready

נָכ֖וֹן

at his hand

בְּיָד֣וֹ

that the day

יֽוֹם

of darkness

חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

shall make him afraid

יְֽ֭בַעֲתֻהוּ

Trouble

צַ֣ר

and anguish

וּמְצוּקָ֑ה

they shall prevail

תִּ֝תְקְפֵ֗הוּ

against him as a king

כְּמֶ֤לֶךְ׀

ready

עָתִ֬יד

to the battle

לַכִּידֽוֹר׃

 

כִּֽי

For he stretcheth out

נָטָ֣ה

 

אֶל

against God

אֵ֣ל

his hand

יָד֑וֹ

 

וְאֶל

himself against the Almighty

שַׁ֝דַּ֗י

and strengtheneth

יִתְגַּבָּֽר׃

He runneth

יָר֣וּץ

 

אֵלָ֣יו

upon him even on his neck

בְּצַוָּ֑אר

upon the thick

בַּ֝עֲבִ֗י

bosses

גַּבֵּ֥י

of his bucklers

מָֽגִנָּֽיו׃

 

כִּֽי

Because he covereth

כִסָּ֣ה

his face

פָנָ֣יו

with his fatness

בְּחֶלְבּ֑וֹ

and maketh

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ

collops of fat

פִּימָ֣ה

 

עֲלֵי

on his flanks

כָֽסֶל׃

And he dwelleth

וַיִּשְׁכּ֤וֹן׀

cities

עָ֘רִ֤ים

in desolate

נִכְחָד֗וֹת

and in houses

בָּ֭תִּים

 

לֹא

which no man inhabiteth

יֵ֣שְׁבוּ

 

לָ֑מוֹ

 

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

which are ready

הִתְעַתְּד֣וּ

to become heaps

לְגַלִּֽים׃

 

לֹֽא

He shall not be rich

יֶ֭עְשַׁר

 

וְלֹא

continue

יָק֣וּם

neither shall his substance

חֵיל֑וֹ

 

וְלֹֽא

neither shall he prolong

יִטֶּ֖ה

thereof upon the earth

לָאָ֣רֶץ

the perfection

מִנְלָֽם׃

 

לֹֽא

He shall not depart

וְ֝יָס֗וּר

 

מִנִּי

out of darkness

חֹ֗שֶׁךְ

his branches

יֹֽ֭נַקְתּוֹ

shall dry up

תְּיַבֵּ֣שׁ

the flame

שַׁלְהָ֑בֶת

He shall not depart

וְ֝יָס֗וּר

and by the breath

בְּר֣וּחַ

of his mouth

פִּֽיו׃

 

אַל

trust

יַאֲמֵ֣ן

for vanity

שָׁ֝֗וְא

Let not him that is deceived

נִתְעָ֑ה

 

כִּי

for vanity

שָׁ֝֗וְא

 

תִּהְיֶ֥ה

shall be his recompence

תְמוּרָתֽוֹ׃

before

לֹ֣א

his time

י֭וֹמוֹ

It shall be accomplished

תִּמָּלֵ֑א

and his branch

וְ֝כִפָּת֗וֹ

before

לֹ֣א

shall not be green

רַעֲנָֽנָה׃

He shall shake off

יַחְמֹ֣ס

as the vine

כַּגֶּ֣פֶן

his unripe grape

בִּסְר֑וֹ

and shall cast off

וְיַשְׁלֵ֥ךְ

as the olive

כַּ֝זַּ֗יִת

his flower

נִצָּתֽוֹ׃

 

כִּֽי

For the congregation

עֲדַ֣ת

of hypocrites

חָנֵ֣ף

shall be desolate

גַּלְמ֑וּד

and fire

וְ֝אֵ֗שׁ

shall consume

אָכְלָ֥ה

the tabernacles

אָֽהֳלֵי

of bribery

שֹֽׁחַד׃

They conceive

הָרֹ֣ה

mischief

עָ֭מָל

and bring forth

וְיָ֣לֹד

vanity

אָ֑וֶן

and their belly

וּ֝בִטְנָ֗ם

prepareth

תָּכִ֥ין

deceit

מִרְמָֽה׃
