At
Ἐν
that
ἐκείνῳ

τῷ

καιρῷ
heard
ἤκουσεν
Herod
Ἡρῴδης

the tetrarch
τετράρχης

τὴν
of the fame
ἀκοὴν
of Jesus
Ἰησοῦ
2
And
καὶ
said
εἶπεν

τοῖς
servants
παισὶν
he
αὐτῷ
This
Οὗτός
is
ἐστιν
John
Ἰωάννης

the Baptist
βαπτιστής·
he
αὐτῷ
is risen
ἠγέρθη
from
ἀπὸ

τῶν
the dead
νεκρῶν
And
καὶ
therefore
διὰ

τοῦτο

αἱ
mighty works
δυνάμεις
do shew forth themselves
ἐνεργοῦσιν
in
ἐν
he
αὐτῷ
3

For
γὰρ
Herod
Ἡρῴδης
had laid hold
κρατήσας

τὸν
on John
Ἰωάννην
and bound
ἔδησεν
him
αὐτοῦ·
and
καὶ
put
ἔθετο
him in
ἐν
prison
φυλακῇ
for
διὰ
Herodias'
Ἡρῳδιάδα

τὴν
wife
γυναῖκα
Philip's
Φιλίππου

τοῦ
brother
ἀδελφοῦ
him
αὐτοῦ·

said
ἔλεγεν
For
γὰρ
her
αὐτήν

John
Ἰωάννης
not
Οὐκ
It is
ἔξεστίν
for thee
σοι
to have
ἔχειν
her
αὐτήν
5
And
καὶ
when he would
θέλων
him
αὐτὸν
have put
ἀποκτεῖναι
he feared
ἐφοβήθη

τὸν
the multitude
ὄχλον
because
ὅτι
as
ὡς
a prophet
προφήτην
him
αὐτὸν
they counted
εἶχον

birthday
γενεσίων
But
δὲ
was kept
ἀγομένων

τοῦ
Herod
Ἡρῴδῃ
danced
ὠρχήσατο

the daughter
θυγάτηρ

τῆς
of Herodias
Ἡρῳδιάδος
before them
ἐν

τῷ

μέσῳ
and
καὶ
pleased
ἤρεσεν

τῷ
Herod
Ἡρῴδῃ
7
Whereupon
ὅθεν
with
μεθ'
an oath
ὅρκου
he promised
ὡμολόγησεν
her
αὐτῇ
to give
δοῦναι

whatsoever
ἐὰν
she would ask
αἰτήσηται
8

And
δὲ
she being before instructed
προβιβασθεῖσα
of
ὑπὸ

τῆς
mother
μητρὸς

αὐτῆς,
Give
Δός
me
μοι,
said
φησίν,
here
ὧδε
in
ἐπὶ
a charger
πίνακι

τὴν
head
κεφαλὴν
John
Ἰωάννου

τοῦ
Baptist's
βαπτιστοῦ
9
And
καὶ
was sorry
ἐλυπηθη

the king
βασιλεὺς

διὰ
nevertheless for
δὲ

τοὺς
the oath's sake
ὅρκους
And
καὶ

τοὺς
them which sat with him at meat
συνανακειμένους
he commanded
ἐκέλευσεν
it to be given
δοθῆναι
10
And
καὶ
he sent
πέμψας
and beheaded
ἀπεκεφάλισεν

τὸν
John
Ἰωάννην
in
ἐν

τῇ
the prison
φυλακῇ
11
And
καὶ
she brought
ἤνεγκεν

head
κεφαλὴ
his
αὐτῆς
in
ἐπὶ
a charger
πίνακι
And
καὶ
given
ἐδόθη

τῷ
to the damsel
κορασίῳ
And
καὶ
she brought

And
καὶ
came
προσελθόντες

οἱ

and took up
ἦραν

τὸ
the body
σῶμα,
And
καὶ
buried
ἔθαψαν
his
αὐτό·
And
καὶ
went
ἐλθόντες
and told
ἀπήγγειλαν

τῷ
Jesus
Ἰησοῦ
13
When
καὶ
had heard
ἀκούσαντες

Jesus
Ἰησοῦς
of it he departed
ἀνεχώρησεν
thence
ἐκεῖθεν
by
ἐν

πλοίῳ
into
εἰς
a desert
ἔρημον

ἠκολούθησαν
him
αὐτῷ

out of

14
And
καὶ
went forth
ἐξελθὼν

Jesus
Ἰησοῦς
and saw
εἶδεν
a great

multitude
ὄχλον
And
καὶ
was moved with compassion
ἐσπλαγχνίσθη
toward

their
αὐτῶν
And
καὶ
he healed
ἐθεράπευσεν

τοὺς

And
δὲ
when it was

αὐτοῦ,

οἱ

μαθηταὶ
his
αὐτοῦ,
saying
λέγοντες
a desert
Ἔρημός
This is

ἀπελθόντες
into
εἰς

τὰς
the villages

and buy

themselves
ἑαυτοῖς

16

But
δὲ
Jesus
Ἰησοῦς
said
εἶπεν
them
αὐτοῖς
not
Οὐ
They need

δὲ
He said
εἶπεν,
Bring

19
And
καὶ
he commanded
κελεύσας
