be answered

יֵעָנֶ֑ה

 

וְאִם

and should a man

אִ֖ישׁ

full of talk

שְׂפָתַ֣יִם

be justified

יִצְדָּֽק׃

Should thy lies

בַּ֭דֶּיךָ

men

מְתִ֣ים

hold their peace

יַחֲרִ֑ישׁו

and when thou mockest

וַ֝תִּלְעַ֗ג

 

וְאֵ֣ין

shall no man make thee ashamed

מַכְלִֽם׃

For thou hast said

וַ֭תֹּאמֶר

is pure

זַ֣ךְ

My doctrine

לִקְחִ֑י

and I am clean

וּ֝בַ֗ר

 

הָיִ֥יתִי

in thine eyes

בְעֵינֶֽיךָ׃

But

וְֽאוּלָ֗ם

 

מִֽי

oh that

יִתֵּ֣ן

God

אֱל֣וֹהַּ

would speak

דַּבֵּ֑ר

and open

וְיִפְתַּ֖ח

his lips

שְׂפָתָ֣יו

 

עִמָּֽךְ׃

And that he would shew

וְיַגֶּד

 

לְךָ֙׀

thee the secrets

תַּֽעֲלֻמ֣וֹת

of wisdom

חָכְמָה֮

 

כִּֽי

that they are double

כִפְלַ֪יִם

to that which is

לְֽת֫וּשִׁיָּ֥ה

Know

וְדַ֡ע

 

כִּֽי

exacteth

יַשֶּׁ֥ה

 

לְךָ֥

therefore that God

אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ

of thee less than thine iniquity

מֵעֲוֺנֶֽךָ׃

Canst thou by searching

הַחֵ֣קֶר

God

אֱל֣וֹהַ

canst thou find

תִּמְצָֽא׃

 

אִ֤ם

 

עַד

unto perfection

תַּכְלִ֖ית

out the Almighty

שַׁדַּ֣י

canst thou find

תִּמְצָֽא׃

It is as high

גָּבְהֵ֣י

as heaven

שָׁ֭מַיִם

 

מַה

what canst thou do

תִּפְעָ֑ל

deeper

עֲמֻקָּ֥ה

than hell

מִ֝שְּׁא֗וֹל

 

מַה

what canst thou know

תֵּדָֽע׃

thereof is longer

אֲרֻכָּ֣ה

than the earth

מֵאֶ֣רֶץ

The measure

מִדָּ֑הּ

and broader

וּ֝רְחָבָ֗ה

 

מִנִּי

than the sea

יָֽם׃

 

אִם

If he cut off

יַחֲלֹ֥ף

and shut up

וְיַסְגִּ֑יר

or gather together

וְ֝יַקְהִ֗יל

 

וּמִ֣י

then who can hinder

יְשִׁיבֶֽנּוּ׃

 

כִּי

 

ה֭וּא

For he knoweth

יָדַ֣ע

men

מְתֵי

vain

שָׁ֑וְא

he seeth

וַיַּרְא

wickedness

אָ֝֗וֶן

 

וְלֹ֣א

also will he not then consider

יִתְבּוֹנָֽן׃

man

וְאִ֣ישׁ

For vain

נָ֭בוּב

would be wise

יִלָּבֵ֑ב

colt

וְעַ֥יִר

like a wild ass's

פֶּ֝֗רֶא

though man

אָדָ֥ם

be born

יִוָּלֵֽד׃

 

אִם

 

אַ֭תָּ֗ה

If thou prepare

הֲכִינ֣וֹתָ

thine heart

לִבֶּ֑ךָ

and stretch

וּפָרַשְׂתָּ֖

 

אֵלָ֣יו

out thine hands

כַּפֶּֽיךָ׃

 

אִם

If iniquity

אָ֣וֶן

be in thine hand

בְּ֭יָדְךָ

put it far away

הַרְחִיקֵ֑הוּ

 

וְאַל

dwell

תַּשְׁכֵּ֖ן

in thy tabernacles

בְּאֹהָלֶ֣יךָ

and let not wickedness

עַוְלָֽה׃

 

כִּי

 

אָ֤ז׀

For then shalt thou lift up

תִּשָּׂ֣א

thy face

פָנֶ֣יךָ

without spot

מִמּ֑וּם

 

וְהָיִ֥יתָ

yea thou shalt be stedfast

מֻ֝צָ֗ק

 

וְלֹ֣א

and shalt not fear

תִירָֽא׃

 

כִּי

 

אַ֭תָּה

thy misery

עָמָ֣ל

Because thou shalt forget

תִּשְׁכָּ֑ח

it as waters

כְּמַ֖יִם

that pass away

עָבְר֣וּ

and remember

תִזְכֹּֽר׃

than the noonday

וּֽ֭מִצָּהֳרַיִם

shall be clearer

יָק֣וּם

And thine age

חָ֑לֶד

thou shalt shine forth

תָּ֝עֻ֗פָה

thou shalt be as the morning

כַּבֹּ֥קֶר

 

תִּהְיֶֽה׃

And thou shalt be secure

וּֽ֭בָטַחְתָּ

 

כִּי

because there is

יֵ֣שׁ

hope

תִּקְוָ֑ה

yea thou shalt dig

וְ֝חָפַרְתָּ֗

in safety

לָבֶ֥טַח

about thee and thou shalt take thy rest

תִּשְׁכָּֽב׃

Also thou shalt lie down

וְֽ֭רָבַצְתָּ

 

וְאֵ֣ין

and none shall make thee afraid

מַחֲרִ֑יד

shall make suit

וְחִלּ֖וּ

unto thee

פָנֶ֣יךָ

yea many

רַבִּֽים׃

But the eyes

וְעֵינֵ֥י

of the wicked

רְשָׁעִ֗ים

shall fail

תִּ֫כְלֶ֥ינָה

 

וּ֭מָנוֹס

and they shall not escape

אָבַ֣ד

 

מִנְהֶ֑ם

and their hope

וְ֝תִקְוָתָ֗ם

shall be as the giving up

מַֽפַּח

of the ghost

נָֽפֶשׁ׃
