Be ye not as your fathers

כַאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֡ם

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

have cried

אֲלֵיהֶם֩

הַנְּבִיאִ֨ים

unto whom the former

הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֜ים

וּמַֽעַלְילֵיכֶ֖ם

and from your evil

הָֽרָעִ֑ים

 

וְלֹ֥א

but they did not hear

שָׁמְע֛וּ

 

וְלֹֽא

nor hearken

הִקְשִׁ֥יבוּ

 

אֵלַ֖י

unto me saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

Your fathers

אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם

 

אַיֵּה

 

הֵ֑ם

where are they and the prophets

וְהַ֨נְּבִאִ֔ים

for ever

הַלְעוֹלָ֖ם

do they live

יִֽחְיֽוּ׃

 

אַ֣ךְ׀

But my words

דְּבָרַ֣י

and my statutes

וְחֻקַּ֗י

 

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

which I commanded

עֲבָדַ֣י

the prophets

הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים

הִשִּׂ֖יגוּ

of your fathers

אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֑ם

וַיָּשׁ֣וּבוּ

riding

רֹכֵב֙

 

עַל

horse

סוּסִ֣ים

him were there red

אֲדֻמִּ֔ים

 

וְה֣וּא

and he stood

עֹמֵ֔ד

 

בֵּ֥ין

among the myrtle trees

הַהֲדַסִּ֖ים

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

that were in the bottom

בַּמְּצֻלָ֑ה

and behind

וְאַחֲרָיו֙

horse

סוּסִ֣ים

him were there red

אֲדֻמִּ֔ים

speckled

שְׂרֻקִּ֖ים

and white

וּלְבָנִֽים׃

Then said

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

אֵ֣לֶּה

I O my lord

אֲדֹנִ֑י

אֵלַ֗י

הַמַּלְאָךְ֙

הַדֹּבֵ֣ר

unto me I will shew

אַרְאֶ֖ךָּ

אֵֽלֶּה׃

answered

וַיַּ֗עַן

And the man

הָאִ֛ישׁ

that stood

הָעֹמֵ֥ד

 

בֵּין

among the myrtle trees

הַהֲדַסִּ֖ים

and said

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

 

אֵ֚לֶּה

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

hath sent

שָׁלַ֣ח

These are they whom the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

to walk

לְהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ

to and fro through the earth

בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

And they answered

וַֽיַּעֲנ֞וּ

the angel

מַלְאַ֣ךְ

of the LORD

יְהוָ֗ה

that stood

הָֽעֹמֵד֙

 

בֵּ֣ין

among the myrtle trees

הַהֲדַסִּ֔ים

and said

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ

We have walked to and fro

הִתְהַלַּ֣כְנוּ

and behold all the earth

הָאָ֖רֶץ

 

וְהִנֵּ֥ה

 

כָל

and behold all the earth

הָאָ֖רֶץ

sitteth still

יֹשֶׁ֥בֶת

and is at rest

וְשֹׁקָֽטֶת׃

answered

וַיַּ֣עַן

Then the angel

מַלְאַךְ

O LORD

יְהוָ֣ה

how long wilt thou not have mercy

תְרַחֵ֣ם

on Jerusalem

יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם

 

וְאֵ֖ת

and on the cities

עָרֵ֣י

of Judah

יְהוּדָ֑ה

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

against which thou hast had indignation

זָעַ֔מְתָּה

 

זֶ֖ה

these threescore and ten

שִׁבְעִ֥ים

שָׁנָֽה׃

answered

וַיַּ֣עַן

And the LORD

יְהוָ֗ה

 

אֶת

the angel

הַמַּלְאָ֛ךְ

that talked

הַדֹּבֵ֥ר

 

בִּ֖י

דְּבָרִ֖ים

with me with good

טוֹבִ֑ים

and comfortable

נִחֻמִֽים׃

I am jealous

קִנֵּ֧אתִי

for Jerusalem

לִירוּשָׁלִַ֛ם

and for Zion

וּלְצִיּ֖וֹן

jealousy

קִנְאָ֥ה

with a great

גְדוֹלָֽה׃

sore

וְקֶ֤צֶף

And I am very

גָּדוֹל֙

 

אֲנִ֣י

displeased

קָצַ֣פְתִּי

 

עַל

with the heathen

הַגּוֹיִ֖ם

that are at ease

הַשַּֽׁאֲנַנִּ֑ים

 

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

 

אֲנִי֙

displeased

קָצַ֣פְתִּי

for I was but a little

מְּעָ֔ט

 

וְהֵ֖מָּה

shall be built

יִבָּ֣נֶה

 

בָּ֔הּ

in it saith

נְאֻ֖ם

and a line

וְקָ֥וה

shall be stretched forth

יִנָּטֶ֖ה

 

עַל

to Jerusalem

יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

Cry

קְרָ֣א

Thus saith

and the LORD

shall yet be spread abroad

My cities

through prosperity

shall yet comfort

וְנִחַ֨ם

and the LORD

Zion

צִיּ֔וֹן

and shall yet choose

וּבָחַ֥ר

Jerusalem

בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

Then lifted I up

וָאֶשָּׂ֥א

and saw

and behold four

אַרְבַּ֥ע

horns

קְרָנֽוֹת׃

And I said

הַמַּלְאָ֛ךְ

And I said

me These are the horns

הַקְּרָנוֹת֙

which have scattered

זֵר֣וּ

Judah

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

and Jerusalem

וִירוּשָׁלָֽם׃

shewed

וַיַּרְאֵ֣נִי

And the LORD

אַרְבָּעָ֖ה

carpenters

חָרָשִֽׁים׃

And he spake

לֵאמֹ֗ר
