answered
וַיַּ֥עַן
Then Job
אִיּ֗וֹב
and said
וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
2
it is so of a truth
אָ֭מְנָם
I know
יָדַ֣עְתִּי

כִי

כֵ֑ן

וּמַה
be just
יִּצְדַּ֖ק
but how should man
אֱנ֣וֹשׁ

עִם
with God
אֵֽל׃
3

אִם
If he will
יַ֭חְפֹּץ
contend
לָרִ֣יב

עִמּ֑וֹ

לֹֽא
with him he cannot answer
יַ֝עֲנֶ֗נּוּ
him one
אַחַ֥ת

מִנִּי
of a thousand
אָֽלֶף׃
4
He is wise
חֲכַ֣ם
in heart
לֵ֭בָב
and mighty
וְאַמִּ֣יץ
in strength
כֹּ֑חַ

מִֽי
who hath hardened
הִקְשָׁ֥ה

אֵ֝לָ֗יו
himself against him and hath prospered
וַיִּשְׁלָֽם׃
5
Which removeth
הַמַּעְתִּ֣יק
the mountains
הָ֭רִים

וְלֹ֣א
and they know
יָדָ֑עוּ

אֲשֶׁ֖ר
not which overturneth
הֲפָכָ֣ם
them in his anger
בְּאַפּֽוֹ׃
6
Which shaketh
הַמַּרְגִּ֣יז
the earth
אֶ֭רֶץ
out of her place
מִמְּקוֹמָ֑הּ
and the pillars
וְ֝עַמּוּדֶ֗יהָ
thereof tremble
יִתְפַלָּצֽוּן׃
7
Which commandeth
הָאֹמֵ֣ר
the sun
לַ֭חֶרֶס

וְלֹ֣א
and it riseth
יִזְרָ֑ח

וּבְעַ֖ד
the stars
כּוֹכָבִ֣ים
not and sealeth up
יַחְתֹּֽם׃
8
Which alone spreadeth out
נֹטֶ֣ה
the heavens
שָׁמַ֣יִם

לְבַדּ֑וֹ
and treadeth
וְ֝דוֹרֵ֗ךְ

עַל
upon the waves
בָּ֥מֳתֵי
of the sea
יָֽם׃
9
Which maketh
עֹֽשֶׂה
Arcturus
עָ֭שׁ
Orion
כְּסִ֥יל
and Pleiades
וְכִימָ֗ה
and the chambers
וְחַדְרֵ֥י
of the south
תֵמָֽן׃
10
Which doeth
עֹשֶׂ֣ה
great things
גְ֭דֹלוֹת

עַד
past
אֵ֥ין
finding out
חֵ֑קֶר
yea and wonders
וְנִפְלָא֗וֹת

עַד
past
אֵ֥ין
without number
מִסְפָּֽר׃
11

הֵ֤ן
Lo he goeth

עָ֭לַי

וְלֹ֣א
by me and I see
אֶרְאֶ֑ה
him not he passeth on
וְ֝יַחֲלֹ֗ף

וְֽלֹא
also but I perceive
אָבִ֥ין

לֽוֹ׃
12

הֵ֣ן
Behold he taketh away
יַ֭חְתֹּף

מִ֣י
who can hinder
יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ

מִֽי
him who will say
יֹאמַ֥ר

אֵ֝לָ֗יו

מַֽה
unto him What doest
תַּעֲשֶֽׂה׃
13
If God
אֱ֭לוֹהַּ

לֹא
will not withdraw
יָשִׁ֣יב
his anger
אַפּ֑וֹ

תַּחְתָּ֥ו
do stoop
שָׁ֝חֲח֗וּ
helpers
עֹ֣זְרֵי
the proud
רָֽהַב׃
14

אַ֭ף

כִּֽי

אָנֹכִ֣י
How much less shall I answer
אֶֽעֱנֶ֑נּוּ
him and choose out
אֶבְחֲרָ֖ה
my words
דְבָרַ֣י

עִמּֽוֹ׃
15

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

אִם
Whom though I were righteous
צָ֭דַקְתִּי

לֹ֣א
yet would I not answer
אֶעֱנֶ֑ה
to my judge
לִ֝מְשֹׁפְטִ֗י
but I would make supplication
אֶתְחַנָּֽן׃
16

אִם
If I had called
קָרָ֥אתִי
and he had answered
וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑נִי

לֹֽא
me yet would I not believe
אַ֝אֲמִ֗ין

כִּֽי
that he had hearkened
יַאֲזִ֥ין
unto my voice
קוֹלִֽי׃
17

אֲשֶׁר
me with a tempest
בִּשְׂעָרָ֥ה
For he breaketh
יְשׁוּפֵ֑נִי
and multiplieth
וְהִרְבָּ֖ה
my wounds
פְצָעַ֣י
without cause
חִנָּֽם׃
18

לֹֽא
He will not suffer
יִ֭תְּנֵנִי
me to take
הָשֵׁ֣ב
my breath
רוּחִ֑י

כִּ֥י
but filleth
יַ֝שְׂבִּעַ֗נִי
me with bitterness
מַמְּרֹרִֽים׃
19

אִם
If I speak of strength
לְכֹ֣חַ
lo he is strong
אַמִּ֣יץ

הִנֵּ֑ה

וְאִם
and if of judgment
לְ֝מִשְׁפָּ֗ט

מִ֣י
who shall set
יוֹעִידֵֽנִי׃
20

אִם
If I justify
אֶ֭צְדָּק
myself mine own mouth
פִּ֣י
shall condemn
יַרְשִׁיעֵ֑נִי
me if I say I am perfect
תָּֽם

אָ֝֗נִי
it shall also prove me perverse
וַֽיַּעְקְשֵֽׁנִי׃
21
Though I were perfect
תָּֽם

אָ֭נִי

לֹֽא
yet would I not know
אֵדַ֥ע
my soul
נַפְשִׁ֗י
I would despise
אֶמְאַ֥ס
my life
חַיָּֽי׃
22
This is one
אַחַ֗ת

הִ֥יא

עַל

כֵּ֥ן
thing therefore I said
אָמַ֑רְתִּי
the perfect
תָּ֥ם
and the wicked
וְ֝רָשָׁ֗ע

ה֣וּא
it He destroyeth
מְכַלֶּֽה׃
23

אִם
If the scourge
שׁ֭וֹט
slay
יָמִ֣ית
suddenly
פִּתְאֹ֑ם
at the trial
לְמַסַּ֖ת
of the innocent
נְקִיִּ֣ם
he will laugh
יִלְעָֽג׃
24
The earth
אֶ֤רֶץ׀
is given
נִתְּנָ֬ה
into the hand
בְֽיַד
of the wicked
רָשָׁ֗ע
the faces
פְּנֵֽי
of the judges
שֹׁפְטֶ֥יהָ
he covereth
יְכַסֶּ֑ה

אִם

לֹ֖א
thereof if not where
אֵפ֣וֹא

מִי

הֽוּא׃
25
Now my days
וְיָמַ֣י
are swifter
קַ֭לּוּ

מִנִּי
than a post
רָ֑ץ
they flee away
בָּֽ֝רְח֗וּ

לֹא
they see
רָא֥וּ
no good
טוֹבָֽה׃
26
They are passed away
חָ֭לְפוּ
as
עִם
ships
אֳנִיּ֣וֹת
the swift
אֵבֶ֑ה
as the eagle
כְּ֝נֶ֗שֶׁר
that hasteth
יָט֥וּשׂ

עֲלֵי
to the prey
אֹֽכֶל׃
27

אִם
If I say
אָ֭מְרִי
I will forget
אֶשְׁכְּחָ֣ה
my complaint
שִׂיחִ֑י
I will leave off
אֶעֶזְבָ֖ה
my heaviness
פָנַ֣י
and comfort
וְאַבְלִֽיגָה׃
28
I am afraid
יָגֹ֥רְתִּי

כָל
of all my sorrows
עַצְּבֹתָ֑י
I know
יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי

כִּי

לֹ֥א
that thou wilt not hold me innocent
תְנַקֵּֽנִי׃
29

אָנֹכִ֥י
If I be wicked
אֶרְשָׁ֑ע

לָמָּה

זֶּ֝֗ה
I in vain
הֶ֣בֶל
why then labour
אִיגָֽע׃
30

אִם
If I wash
הִתְרָחַ֥צְתִּי

בְמֵו
myself with
שָׁ֑לֶג
so clean
וַ֝הֲזִכּ֗וֹתִי

בְּבֹ֣ר
and make my hands
כַּפָּֽי׃
31
Yet
אָ֭ז
me in the ditch
בַּשַּׁ֣חַת
shalt thou plunge
תִּטְבְּלֵ֑נִי
shall abhor
וְ֝תִֽעֲב֗וּנִי
and mine own clothes
שַׂלְמוֹתָֽי׃
32

כִּי

לֹא
For he is not a man
אִ֣ישׁ

כָּמ֣וֹנִי
as I am that I should answer
אֶֽעֱנֶ֑נּוּ
him and we should come
נָב֥וֹא
together
יַ֝חְדָּ֗ו
in judgment
בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃
33

לֹ֣א
Neither is
יֵשׁ

בֵּינֵ֣ינוּ
there any daysman
מוֹכִ֑יחַ
betwixt us that might lay
יָשֵׁ֖ת
his hand
יָד֣וֹ

עַל
upon us both
שְׁנֵֽינוּ׃
34
Let him take
יָסֵ֣ר

מֵעָלַ֣י
his rod
שִׁבְט֑וֹ
from me and let not his fear
וְ֝אֵמָת֗וֹ

אַֽל
terrify
תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי׃
35
Then would I speak
אֲֽ֭דַבְּרָה

וְלֹ֣א
and not fear
אִירָאֶ֑נּוּ

כִּ֥י

לֹא

כֵ֥ן

אָ֝נֹכִ֗י

עִמָּדִֽי׃
