that thou art a gracious

חַנּ֣וּן

and merciful

thee of the evil

Therefore now O LORD

I beseech thee my life

נַפְשִׁ֖י

 

מִמֶּ֑נִּי

 

כִּ֛י

from me for it is better

for me to die

מוֹתִ֖י

than to live

מֵחַיָּֽי׃

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

the LORD

יְהוָ֔ה

Doest thou well

הַהֵיטֵ֖ב

to be angry

חָ֥רָה

 

לָֽךְ׃

went out

וַיֵּצֵ֤א

So Jonah

יוֹנָה֙

 

מִן

of the city

בָּעִֽיר׃

and sat

וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב

on the east side

מִקֶּ֣דֶם

of the city

בָּעִֽיר׃

and there made

וַיַּעַשׂ֩

 

ל֨וֹ

 

שָׁ֜ם

him a booth

סֻכָּ֗ה

and sat

וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב

 

תַּחְתֶּ֙יהָ֙

under it in the shadow

בַּצֵּ֔ל

 

עַ֚ד

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

till he might see

יִרְאֶ֔ה

And the LORD

and made it to come up

וַיַּ֣עַל׀

So Jonah

יוֹנָ֛ה

 

לִֽהְי֥וֹת

that it might be a shadow

צֵל֙

 

עַל

over his head

רֹאשׁ֔וֹ

to deliver

לְהַצִּ֥יל

 

ל֖וֹ

him from his grief

מֵרָֽעָת֑וֹ

glad

וַיִּשְׂמַ֥ח

So Jonah

יוֹנָ֛ה

 

עַל

a gourd

הַקִּֽיקָי֖וֹן

 

שִׂמְחָ֥ה

was exceeding

גְדוֹלָֽה׃

prepared

וַיְמַ֤ן

But God

הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙

a worm

תּוֹלַ֔עַת

rose

בַּעֲל֥וֹת

when the morning

הַשַּׁ֖חַר

the next day

לַֽמָּחֳרָ֑ת

and it smote

וַתַּ֥ךְ

 

אֶת

the gourd

הַקִּֽיקָי֖וֹן

that it withered

וַיִּיבָֽשׁ׃

 

וַיְהִ֣י׀

did arise

כִּזְרֹ֣חַ

And it came to pass when the sun

הַשֶּׁ֛מֶשׁ

prepared

וַיְמַ֨ן

that God

אֱלֹהִ֜ים

wind

ר֤וּחַ

east

קָדִים֙

a vehement

חֲרִישִׁ֔ית

beat

וַתַּ֥ךְ

And it came to pass when the sun

that he fainted

וַיִּתְעַלָּ֑ף

and wished

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

for the which thou hast not laboured

עָמַ֥לְתָּ

neither madest it grow

גִדַּלְתּ֑וֹ

in a night

וּבִן

 

לַ֥יְלָה

 

הָיָ֖ה
