the Lord

אֲדֹנָ֨י

from the LORD

a rumour

שְׁמוּעָ֨ה

We have heard

שָׁמַ֜עְנוּ

 

מֵאֵ֤ת

יְהוָה֙

and an ambassador

וְצִיר֙

among the heathen

בַּגּוֹיִ֣ם

is sent

שֻׁלָּ֔ח

Arise

וְנָק֥וּמָה

Arise

וְנָק֥וּמָה

 

עָלֶ֖יהָ

against her in battle

לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

 

הִנֵּ֥ה

thee small

קָטֹ֛ן

Behold I have made

נְתַתִּ֖יךָ

among the heathen

בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם

despised

בָּז֥וּי

 

אַתָּ֖ה

thou art greatly

מְאֹֽד׃

The pride

זְד֤וֹן

in his heart

בְּלִבּ֔וֹ

hath deceived

הִשִּׁיאֶ֔ךָ

thee thou that dwellest

שִׁבְתּ֑וֹ

in the clefts

בְחַגְוֵי

of the rock

סֶ֖לַע

is high

מְר֣וֹם

thee thou that dwellest

שִׁבְתּ֑וֹ

that saith

אֹמֵ֣ר

in his heart

בְּלִבּ֔וֹ

 

מִ֥י

Who shall bring me down

יוֹרִדֵ֖נִי

to the ground

אָֽרֶץ׃

 

אִם

Though thou exalt

תַּגְבִּ֣יהַּ

thyself as the eagle

כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁר

 

וְאִם

 

בֵּ֥ין

among the stars

כּֽוֹכָבִ֖ים

and though thou set

שִׂ֣ים

thy nest

קִנֶּ֑ךָ

 

מִשָּׁ֥ם

thence will I bring thee down

אוֹרִֽידְךָ֖

saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

 

אִם

If thieves

גַּנָּבִ֤ים

came

בָּ֣אוּ

 

לְךָ֙

 

אִם

to thee if robbers

שׁ֣וֹדְדֵי

by night

לַ֔יְלָה

 

אֵ֣יךְ

how art thou cut off

נִדְמֵ֔יתָה

 

הֲל֥וֹא

would they not have stolen

יִגְנְב֖וּ

till they had enough

דַּיָּ֑ם

 

אִם

if the grapegatherers

בֹּֽצְרִים֙

came

בָּ֣אוּ

 

לָ֔ךְ

 

הֲל֖וֹא

to thee would they not leave

יַשְׁאִ֥ירוּ

some grapes

עֹלֵלֽוֹת׃

 

אֵ֚יךְ

searched out

נֶחְפְּשׂ֣וּ

How are the things of Esau

עֵשָׂ֔ו

things sought up

נִבְע֖וּ

how are his hidden

מַצְפֻּנָֽיו׃

 

עַֽד

thee even to the border

הַגְּב֣וּל

have brought

שִׁלְּח֗וּךָ

 

כֹּ֚ל

All the men

אַנְשֵׁ֣י

of thy confederacy

בְרִיתֶ֔ךָ

with thee have deceived

הִשִּׁיא֛וּךָ

thee and prevailed

יָכְל֥וּ

 

לְךָ֖

All the men

אַנְשֵׁ֣י

that were at peace

שְׁלֹמֶ֑ךָ

against thee they that eat thy bread

לַחְמְךָ֗

have laid

יָשִׂ֤ימוּ

a wound

מָזוֹר֙

 

תַּחְתֶּ֔יךָ

 

אֵ֥ין

under thee there is none understanding

תְּבוּנָ֖ה

 

בּֽוֹ׃

 

הֲל֛וֹא

Shall I not in that day

בַּיּ֥וֹם

 

הַה֖וּא

saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

יְהוָ֑ה

even destroy

וְהַאֲבַדְתִּ֤י

the wise

חֲכָמִים֙

men out of Edom

מֵֽאֱד֔וֹם

and understanding

וּתְבוּנָ֖ה

out of the mount

מֵהַ֥ר

of Esau

עֵשָֽׂו׃

shall be dismayed

וְחַתּ֥וּ

And thy mighty

גִבּוֹרֶ֖יךָ

men O Teman

תֵּימָ֑ן

 

לְמַ֧עַן

may be cut off

יִכָּֽרֶת

to the end that every one

אִ֛ישׁ

of the mount

מֵהַ֥ר

of Esau

עֵשָׂ֖ו

by slaughter

מִקָּֽטֶל׃

For thy violence

מֵחֲמַ֛ס

against thy brother

אָחִ֥יךָ

Jacob

יַעֲקֹ֖ב

shall cover

תְּכַסְּךָ֣

shame

בוּשָׁ֑ה

thee and thou shalt be cut off

וְנִכְרַ֖תָּ

for ever

לְעוֹלָֽם׃

In the day

בְּי֛וֹם

that thou stoodest

עֲמָֽדְךָ֣

 

מִנֶּ֔גֶד

In the day

בְּי֛וֹם

carried away captive

שְׁב֥וֹת

that the strangers

זָרִ֖ים

his forces

חֵיל֑וֹ

and foreigners

וְנָכְרִ֞ים

entered

בָּ֣אוּ

into his gates

שְׁעָרָ֗ו

 

וְעַל

upon Jerusalem

יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙

and cast

יַדּ֣וּ

lots

גוֹרָ֔ל

 

גַּם

 

אַתָּ֖ה

even thou wast as one

כְּאַחַ֥ד

 

מֵהֶֽם׃

 

וְאַל

But thou shouldest not have looked

תֵּ֤רֶא

in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

of thy brother

אָחִ֙יךָ֙

in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

 

נָכְר֔וֹ

 

וְאַל

neither shouldest thou have rejoiced

תִּשְׂמַ֥ח

over the children

לִבְנֵֽי

of Judah

יְהוּדָ֖ה

in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

of their destruction

אָבְדָ֑ם

 

וְאַל

proudly

תַּגְדֵּ֥ל

neither shouldest thou have spoken

פִּ֖יךָ

in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

of distress

צָרָֽה׃

 

אַל

Thou shouldest not have entered

תָּב֤וֹא

into the gate

בְשַֽׁעַר

of my people

עַמִּי֙

in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

of their calamity

אֵידֽוֹ׃

 

אַל

yea thou shouldest not have looked

תֵּ֧רֶא

 

גַם

 

אַתָּ֛ה

on their affliction

בְּרָעָת֖וֹ

in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

of their calamity

וְאַל

nor have laid

תִּשְׁלַ֥חְנָה

hands on their substance

בְחֵיל֖וֹ

of their calamity

Neither shouldest thou have stood

תַּעֲמֹד֙

 

עַל

in the crossway

הַפֶּ֔רֶק

to cut off

לְהַכְרִ֖ית

 

אֶת

those of his that did escape

פְּלִיטָ֑יו

 

וְאַל

neither shouldest thou have delivered up

תַּסְגֵּ֥ר

those of his that did remain

שְׂרִידָ֖יו

in the day

בְּי֥וֹם

of distress

is near

קָר֥וֹב

For the day

of the LORD

כָּל

upon all the heathen

הַגּוֹיִ֑ם

 

כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר

as thou hast done

יֵעָ֣שֶׂה

as thou hast done

לָּ֔ךְ

unto thee thy reward

גְּמֻלְךָ֖

shall return

יָשׁ֥וּב

upon thine own head

בְּרֹאשֶֽׁךָ׃

 

כִּ֗י

 

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר

For as ye have drunk

וְשָׁת֣וּ

 

עַל

mountain

הַ֣ר

upon my holy

קָדְשִׁ֔י

For as ye have drunk

וְשָׁת֣וּ

 

כָֽל

so shall all the heathen

הַגּוֹיִ֖ם

continually

תָּמִ֑יד

For as ye have drunk

וְשָׁת֣וּ

and they shall swallow down

וְלָע֔וּ

 

וְהָי֖וּ

and they shall be as though they had not

כְּל֥וֹא

 

הָיֽוּ׃

But upon mount

וּבְהַ֥ר

Zion

צִיּ֛וֹן

 

תִּהְיֶ֥ה

shall be deliverance

פְלֵיטָ֖ה

 

וְהָ֣יָה

and there shall be holiness

קֹ֑דֶשׁ

shall possess

וְיָֽרְשׁוּ֙

and the house

בֵּ֣ית

of Jacob

יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב

 

אֵ֖ת

their possessions

מוֹרָֽשֵׁיהֶם׃

 

וְהָיָה֩

And the house

לְבֵ֣ית

of Jacob

יַעֲקֹ֨ב

shall be a fire

אֵ֜שׁ

And the house

לְבֵ֣ית

of Joseph

יוֹסֵ֣ף

a flame

לֶהָבָ֗ה

And the house

לְבֵ֣ית

of Esau

עֵשָׂ֔ו

for stubble

לְקַ֔שׁ

and they shall kindle

וְדָלְק֥וּ

 

בָהֶ֖ם

in them and devour

וַאֲכָל֑וּם

 

וְלֹֽא

 

יִֽהְיֶ֤ה

them and there shall not be any remaining

שָׂרִיד֙

And the house

לְבֵ֣ית

of Esau

עֵשָׂ֔ו

 

כִּ֥י

for the LORD

יְהוָ֖ה

hath spoken

דִּבֵּֽר׃

and they shall possess

וְיָרְשׁוּ֙

And they of the south

הַנֶּ֜גֶב

 

אֶת

the mount

הַ֣ר

of Esau

עֵשָׂ֗ו

and they of the plain

וְהַשְּׁפֵלָה֙

 

אֶת

the Philistines

פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

and they shall possess

וְיָרְשׁוּ֙

 

אֶת

and the fields

שְׂדֵ֣ה

of Ephraim

אֶפְרַ֔יִם

 

וְאֵ֖ת

and the fields

שְׂדֵ֣ה

of Samaria

שֹׁמְר֑וֹן

and Benjamin

וּבִנְיָמִ֖ן

 

אֶת

shall possess Gilead

הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

And the captivity

וְגָלֻ֥ת

of this host

הַֽחֵל

 

הַ֠זֶּה

of the children

לִבְנֵ֨י

of Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל

 

אֲשֶֽׁר

shall possess that of the Canaanites

כְּנַעֲנִים֙

 

עַד

even unto Zarephath

צָ֣רְפַ֔ת

And the captivity

וְגָלֻ֥ת

of Jerusalem

יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

which is in Sepharad

בִּסְפָרַ֑ד

shall possess

יִֽרְשׁ֕וּ

 

אֵ֖ת

the cities

עָרֵ֥י

of the south

הַנֶּֽגֶב׃

shall come up

וְעָל֤וּ

And saviours

מֽוֹשִׁעִים֙

on mount

הַ֣ר

Zion

צִיּ֔וֹן

to judge

לִשְׁפֹּ֖ט

 

אֶת

on mount

הַ֣ר

of Esau

עֵשָׂ֑ו

 

וְהָיְתָ֥ה

shall be the LORD'S

לַֽיהוָ֖ה

and the kingdom

הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃

shall come up

וְעָל֤וּ

And saviours

מֽוֹשִׁעִים֙

on mount

הַ֣ר

Zion

צִיּ֔וֹן

to judge

לִשְׁפֹּ֖ט

 

אֶת

on mount

הַ֣ר

of Esau

עֵשָׂ֑ו

 

וְהָיְתָ֥ה

shall be the LORD'S

לַֽיהוָ֖ה

and the kingdom

הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃
