וַיִּ֨קְחוּ

מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

gathered themselves together

וַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֔וּ

Then all the elders

זִקְנֵ֣י

יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

and came

וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ

 

אֶל

to Samuel

שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל

unto Ramah

הָֽרָמָֽתָה׃

And said

וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ

 

אֵלָ֗יו

 

הִנֵּה֙

 

אַתָּ֣ה

unto him Behold thou art old

זָקַ֔נְתָּ

and thy sons

וּבָנֶ֕יךָ

 

לֹ֥א

walk

הָֽלְכ֖וּ

not in thy ways

בִּדְרָכֶ֑יךָ

 

עַתָּ֗ה

now make

שִֽׂימָה

 

לָּ֥נוּ

us a king

מֶ֛לֶךְ

to judge

לְשָׁפְטֵ֖נוּ

 

כְּכָל

us like all the nations

הַגּוֹיִֽם׃

displeased

וַיֵּ֤רַע

But the thing

הַדָּבָר֙

 

בְּעֵינֵ֣י

שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל

when they said

אָֽמְר֔וּ

הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

that shall reign

יִמְלֹ֖ךְ

 

עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

This will be the manner

מִשְׁפַּ֣ט

that shall reign

יִמְלֹ֖ךְ

 

עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם

 

אֶת

your sons

בְּנֵיכֶ֣ם

over you He will take

יִקָּ֗ח

and appoint

וְשָׂ֥ם

 

לוֹ֙

his chariots

מֶרְכַּבְתּֽוֹ׃

and to be his horsemen

וּבְפָֽרָשָׁ֔יו

and some shall run

וְרָצ֖וּ

before

לִפְנֵ֥י

his chariots

מֶרְכַּבְתּֽוֹ׃

And he will appoint

וְלָשׂ֣וּם

 

ל֔וֹ

and captains

וְשָׂרֵ֣י

over thousands

אֲלָפִ֖ים

and captains

וְשָׂרֵ֣י

over fifties

חֲמִשִּׁ֑ים

and will set them to ear

וְלַֽחֲרֹ֤שׁ

his ground

חֲרִישׁוֹ֙

and to reap

וְלִקְצֹ֣ר

his harvest

קְצִיר֔וֹ

and to make

וְלַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת

and instruments

וּכְלֵ֥י

of war

מִלְחַמְתּ֖וֹ

and instruments

וּכְלֵ֥י

of his chariots

רִכְבּֽוֹ׃

 

וְאֶת

your daughters

בְּנֽוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם

And he will take

יִקָּ֑ח

to be confectionaries

לְרַקָּח֥וֹת

and to be cooks

וּלְטַבָּח֖וֹת

and to be bakers

וּלְאֹפֽוֹת׃

 

וְאֶת

your fields

שְׂ֠דֽוֹתֵיכֶם

 

וְאֶת

and your vineyards

כַּרְמֵיכֶ֧ם

and your oliveyards

וְזֵֽיתֵיכֶ֛ם

even the best

הַטּוֹבִ֖ים

And he will take

יִקָּ֑ח

of them and give

וְנָתַ֖ן

them to his servants

לַֽעֲבָדָֽיו׃

of your seed

וְזַרְעֵיכֶ֥ם

and of your vineyards

וְכַרְמֵיכֶ֖ם

And he will take the tenth

יַעְשֹׂ֑ר

and give

וְנָתַ֥ן

to his officers

לְסָֽרִיסָ֖יו

and to his servants

וְלַֽעֲבָדָֽיו׃

 

וְאֶת

your menservants

עַבְדֵיכֶם֩

 

וְֽאֶת

and your maidservants

שִׁפְח֨וֹתֵיכֶ֜ם

 

וְאֶת

young men

בַּחֽוּרֵיכֶ֧ם

and your goodliest

הַטּוֹבִ֛ים

 

וְאֶת

and your asses

חֲמֽוֹרֵיכֶ֖ם

And he will take

יִקָּ֑ח

and put

וְעָשָׂ֖ה

them to his work

לִמְלַאכְתּֽוֹ׃

of your sheep

צֹֽאנְכֶ֖ם

He will take the tenth

יַעְשֹׂ֑ר

 

וְאַתֶּ֖ם

 

תִּֽהְיוּ

 

ל֥וֹ

and ye shall be his servants

לַֽעֲבָדִֽים׃

And ye shall cry out

וּזְעַקְתֶּם֙

in that day

בַּיּ֥וֹם

 

הַה֔וּא

because

מִלִּפְנֵ֣י

of your king

מַלְכְּכֶ֔ם

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

which ye shall have chosen

בְּחַרְתֶּ֖ם

 

לָכֶ֑ם

 

וְלֹֽא

will not hear

יַעֲנֶ֧ה

you and the LORD

יְהוָ֛ה

 

אֶתְכֶ֖ם

in that day

בַּיּ֥וֹם

 

הַהֽוּא׃

refused

וַיְמָֽאֲנ֣וּ

Nevertheless the people

הָעָ֔ם

to obey

לִשְׁמֹ֖עַ

the voice

בְּק֣וֹל

of Samuel

שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל

and they said

וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ

 

לֹּ֔א

 

כִּ֥י

 

אִם

Nay but we will have a king

מֶ֖לֶךְ

 

יִֽהְיֶ֥ה

 

עָלֵֽינוּ׃

 

וְהָיִ֥ינוּ

 

גַם

 

אֲנַ֖חְנוּ

 

כְּכָל

That we also may be like all the nations

הַגּוֹיִ֑ם

may judge

וּשְׁפָטָ֤נוּ

and that our king

מַלְכֵּ֙נוּ֙

us and go out

וְיָצָ֣א

before

לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ

us and fight

וְנִלְחַ֖ם

 

אֶת

our battles

מִלְחֲמֹתֵֽנוּ׃

heard

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע

And Samuel

שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל

 

אֵ֖ת

and he rehearsed

Hearken

לָהֶ֖ם

them a king

מֶ֑לֶךְ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

And Samuel
