Lest I strip

אַפְשִׁיטֶ֣נָּה

her naked

עֲרֻמָּ֔ה

and set

וְהִ֨צַּגְתִּ֔יהָ

her as in the day

כְּי֖וֹם

that she was born

הִוָּֽלְדָ֑הּ

and make

וְשַׂמְתִּ֣יהָ

her as a wilderness

כַמִּדְבָּ֗ר

and set

וְשַׁתִּ֙הָ֙

land

כְּאֶ֣רֶץ

her like a dry

צִיָּ֔ה

and slay

וַהֲמִתִּ֖יהָ

her with thirst

בַּצָּמָֽא׃

 

וְאֶת

for they be the children

בְנֵ֥י

 

לֹ֣א

And I will not have mercy

אֲרַחֵ֑ם

 

כִּֽי

for they be the children

בְנֵ֥י

of whoredoms

זְנוּנִ֖ים

 

הֵֽמָּה׃

 

כִּ֤י

hath played the harlot

זָֽנְתָה֙

For their mother

הֹבִ֖ישָׁה

my lovers

מְאַהֲבַי֙

me my bread

לַחְמִי֙

and my water

וּמֵימַ֔י

צַמְרִ֣י

and my flax

וּפִשְׁתִּ֔י

mine oil

שַׁמְנִ֖י

and my drink

וְשִׁקּוּיָֽי׃

 

לָכֵ֛ן

 

הִנְנִי

Therefore behold I will hedge

שָׂ֥ךְ

 

אֶת

up thy way

דַּרְכֵּ֖ךְ

with thorns

בַּסִּירִ֑ים

and make

וְגָֽדַרְתִּי֙

 

אֶת

 

גְּדֵרָ֔הּ

her paths

וּנְתִיבוֹתֶ֖יהָ

 

לֹ֥א

that she shall not find

תִמְצָֽא׃

And she shall follow

וְרִדְּפָ֤ה

 

אֶת

after her lovers

מְאַהֲבֶ֙יהָ֙

 

וְלֹֽא

but she shall not overtake

תַשִּׂ֣יג

 

אֹתָ֔ם

them and she shall seek

וּבִקְשָׁ֖תַם

 

וְלֹ֣א

them but shall not find

תִמְצָ֑א

them then shall she say

וְאָמְרָ֗ה

 

אֵלְכָ֤ה

and return

וְאָשׁ֙וּבָה֙

הִרְבֵּ֥יתִי

and gold

וְזָהָ֖ב

which they prepared

עָשׂ֥וּ

for Baal

לַבָּֽעַל׃

 

לָכֵ֣ן

Therefore will I return

אָשׁ֔וּב

and take away

וְלָקַחְתִּ֤י

my corn

דְגָנִי֙

in the time

בְּעִתּ֔וֹ

thereof and my wine

וְתִירוֹשִׁ֖י

in the season

בְּמֽוֹעֲד֑וֹ

thereof and will recover

וְהִצַּלְתִּי֙

my wool

צַמְרִ֣י

and my flax

וּפִשְׁתִּ֔י

given to cover

לְכַסּ֖וֹת

 

אֶת

her nakedness

עֶרְוָתָֽהּ׃

 

וְעַתָּ֛ה

And now will I discover

אֲגַלֶּ֥ה

 

אֶת

her lewdness

נַבְלֻתָ֖הּ

in the sight

לְעֵינֵ֣י

of her lovers

מְאַהֲבֶ֑יהָ

and none

וְאִ֖ישׁ

 

לֹֽא

shall deliver

יַצִּילֶ֥נָּה

her out of mine hand

מִיָּדִֽי׃

to cease

וְהִשְׁבַּתִּי֙

 

כָּל

I will also cause all her mirth

מְשׂוֹשָׂ֔הּ

her feast days

חַגָּ֖הּ

her new moons

חָדְשָׁ֣הּ

and her sabbaths

וְשַׁבַּתָּ֑הּ

 

וְכֹ֖ל

and all her solemn feasts

מוֹעֲדָֽהּ׃

And I will destroy

וַהֲשִׁמֹּתִ֗י

her vines

גַּפְנָהּ֙

and her fig trees

וּתְאֵ֣נָתָ֔הּ

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

whereof she hath said

אָמְרָ֗ה

These are my rewards

אֶתְנָ֥ה

 

הֵ֙מָּה֙

 

לִ֔י

 

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

have given

נָֽתְנוּ

 

לִ֖י

that my lovers

מְאַֽהֲבָ֑י

me and I will make

וְשַׂמְתִּ֣ים

them a forest

לְיַ֔עַר

shall eat

וַאֲכָלָ֖תַם

and the beasts

חַיַּ֥ת

of the field

הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃

And I will visit

וּפָקַדְתִּ֣י

 

עָלֶ֗יהָ

 

אֶת

upon her the days

יְמֵ֤י

of Baalim

הַבְּעָלִים֙

 

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

wherein she burned incense

תַּקְטִ֣יר

 

לָהֶ֔ם

to them and she decked

וַתַּ֤עַד

herself with her earrings

נִזְמָהּ֙

and her jewels

וְחֶלְיָתָ֔הּ

 

וַתֵּ֖לֶךְ

after

אַחֲרֵ֣י

her lovers

מְאַהֲבֶ֑יהָ

 

וְאֹתִ֥י

and forgat

שָׁכְחָ֖ה

me saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

 

לָכֵ֗ן

 

הִנֵּ֤ה

 

אָֽנֹכִי֙

Therefore behold I will allure

מְפַתֶּ֔יהָ

 

וְהֹֽלַכְתִּ֖יהָ

her into the wilderness

הַמִּדְבָּ֑ר

and speak

וְדִבַּרְתִּ֖י

 

עַל

comfortably

לִבָּֽהּ׃

And I will give

וְנָתַ֨תִּי

 

לָ֤הּ

 

אֶת

her her vineyards

כְּרָמֶ֙יהָ֙

 

מִשָּׁ֔ם

 

וְאֶת

from thence and the valley

עֵ֥מֶק

of Achor

עָכ֖וֹר

for a door

לְפֶ֣תַח

of hope

תִּקְוָ֑ה

and she shall sing

וְעָ֤נְתָה

 

שָּׁ֙מָּה֙

and as in the day

וִּכְי֖וֹם

of her youth

נְעוּרֶ֔יהָ

and as in the day

וִּכְי֖וֹם

when she came up

עֲלוֹתָ֥הּ

out of the land

מֵאֶֽרֶץ

וְהָיָ֤ה

And it shall be at that day

בַיּוֹם

 

הַהוּא֙

saith

נְאֻם

יְהוָ֔ה

תִקְרְאִי

me Ishi

אִישִׁ֑י

 

וְלֹֽא

and shalt call

תִקְרְאִי

 

לִ֥י

 

ע֖וֹד

me no more Baali

בַּעְלִֽי׃

For I will take away

וַהֲסִרֹתִ֛י

 

אֶת

by their name

בִּשְׁמָֽם׃

of Baalim

הַבְּעָלִ֖ים

out of her mouth

מִפִּ֑יהָ

 

וְלֹֽא

and they shall no more be remembered

יִזָּכְר֥וּ

 

ע֖וֹד

by their name

בִּשְׁמָֽם׃

will I make

וְכָרַתִּ֨י

 

לָהֶ֤ם

a covenant

בְּרִית֙

And in that day

בַּיּ֣וֹם

 

הַה֔וּא

 

עִם

for them with the beasts

of the field

הַשָּׂדֶה֙

 

וְעִם

and with the fowls

ע֣וֹף

of heaven

הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

and with the creeping things

וְרֶ֖מֶשׂ

of the ground

הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה

the bow

וְקֶ֨שֶׁת

and the sword

וְחֶ֤רֶב

and the battle

וּמִלְחָמָה֙

and I will break

אֶשְׁבּ֣וֹר

out of the earth

הָאָ֔רֶץ

and will make them to lie down

וְהִשְׁכַּבְתִּ֖ים

safely

לָבֶֽטַח׃

And I will betroth

וְאֵרַשְׂתִּ֥יךְ

 

לִ֖י

thee unto me for ever

לְעוֹלָ֑ם

And I will betroth

וְאֵרַשְׂתִּ֥יךְ

 

לִי֙

thee unto me in righteousness

בְּצֶ֣דֶק

and in judgment

וּבְמִשְׁפָּ֔ט

and in lovingkindness

וּבְחֶ֖סֶד

and in mercies

וּֽבְרַחֲמִֽים׃

I will even betroth

וְאֵרַשְׂתִּ֥יךְ

 

לִ֖י

thee unto me in faithfulness

בֶּאֱמוּנָ֑ה

and thou shalt know

וְיָדַ֖עַתְּ

 

אֶת

the LORD

יְהוָֽה׃

 

וְהָיָ֣ה׀

And it shall come to pass in that day

בַּיּ֣וֹם

 

הַה֗וּא

I will hear

יַעֲנ֥וּ

saith

נְאֻם

the LORD

the heavens

הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם
